Name me a team who wins without an anchor midfielder. You gotta have one.
This was Sven's problem. Gerrard or Lamps don't fit the position. No Rooney means we can pick a more balanced system of 4/1/4/1. All you need to decide is who plays as the anchor and whether it is Lamps or Gerrard who plays closer to Owen.
Robinson, Neville, Terry, Rio, Cole Carrick or King Becks, Lamps, Gerrard, Cole Owen.

the worst thing about Rooney getting injured is having to play crouch!
Iv seen him a lot this season and altho I stuck up for him when he wasnt getting goals he single handedly ruins too many moves

Crouch is marmite we get that can we just let him settle the argument on the field.

David James Jamie Carragher Ledley King Michael Carrick Jermaine Jenas Shaun Wright Phillips Jermaine Defoe You'd play Lampard as an anchor so he's furthest away from goal? There's no way that is going to happen. In fact there is very little chance that Sven will pick 4/4/2. He hasn't done for 3 years so I don't see him doing it now. He likes somebody playing off Owen in the Sherringham/Beardsley role. 4/4/2 doesn't work for England so Defoe, Bent, Beattie, Johnson etc will not be partnering Owen even if Rooney is out.

We've not got many strikers, and we've got loads of midfielders fit. That instantly strikes me as a reason to play 4-5-1, why play with two strikers when one of them blatantly isn't good enough? Robinson Neville Terry Ferdinand/Carragher Cole Beckham Gerrard Carrick Lampard Cole I'd pick Bent or Marlon here, but i guess it has to be Crouch
