It's about time this rumour had a thread on the rumours board. Just to clarify for anyone who's been asleep for the last couple of weeks - Tessier has hit hard times at his current club and there's a tenuous rumour that he might be coming here.
A couple of things spring to mind (note: technically these are not rumours, just pure speculation on my part):
1. How much would Simms enjoy making the Panthers fans thing that Tess is coming here, only to announce him as a Steeler a couple of weeks later?
2. IIRC Tessier signed a 2 year contract with the Steelers that included 1 year + another optional year. Now I'm not quite sure what that optional year means exactly - doesn't every player & team have the option to sign for another year? - but what's the chance that it includes terms stopping Tessier playing for another EIHL team?

Indeed speculation. My 2 penn'orth... 1. Loads. But he is a bit strange. 2. Options just mean that if one side decide to exercise the option, the other side is bound to it. So, if Tessier the player has an option to stay with Steelers, and he says no, he becomes a free agent. If he says yes, the contract carries on, even if Steelers don't want it to. And vice cersa. Options can be either player or club decided. I doubt a clause that forbids a player from joining another team would be enforceable. Restraint of trade, unfair contract term etc.

Surely no team would try to stop a player playing for another team would they?....

If you can hire or fire someone based on what nationality they are or where they learned to play hockey then all bets are off as far as I can tell.

I doubt a clause that forbids a player from joining another team would be enforceable. Restraint of trade, unfair contract term etc. Yeah but the EIHL having the 10 imports (none Brits) limit is actually a restraint of trade and is actually illegal. They only get away with it as its an agreement between the teams and not an actual rule laid down in stone or the EU would be down on the EIHL like a ton of bricks.

You would not get away with it being tessier as he is not a EU pasport holder .

Interesting to hear Chris Ellis, during his commentary from Newcastle last night, be quite emphatic (on more than one occasion) that Tessier was not coming back to Nottingham! Obviously, he's a lot closer to the Club than the vast majority of us, so I suspect that we have seen the last of the Fairway Ferret in Black and Gold (or White & Yellow!)

Well after chatting to another cageite today he made a great point.
Tessier isnt available until after christmas and suddenly Ellis has registered himself which would make you think he's gonna play for atleast 5-6 games.............which takes us till just after christmas....................?
