Moran to Belfast Jay? A bit premature there me lad. It's not confirmed, & even that article says he not done the deal yet. Manchester are still in the running....for now. Good luck to him where ever he goes anyway.

He did a good job for us on the ice and always was keen to help with anything we needed. You don't get much better people than Paul "Next season will be a big year for him and he needed to play a lot, gain ice time. It looks like Belfast have won the race with Manchester for his signature, whoever gets him have signed a great guy who will always be welcomed back in Sheffield as a family member" I have issue with a couple of points here, IF he did such a good job why not try to re-sign him? Which leads me to my second point how can he do a good job ON THE ICE, IF he didnt get on the ice? Also talk about sycophantic, can o'connor be more of a suckup? he was a "family menber" for a few months who contributed exactly 0 + 0 to the cause how useful was that??? Finally, look back think it was mentioned at the time it was nothing more than a publicity stunt and a player they would not re-sign. surprise surprise i was right!!!....

Can't remember seeing anything around the time saying us signing Moran was a publicity stunt - i'm assuming this was something mentioned on a forum as opposed to coming from the club?

Hope he does sign for Belfast. In fact anywhere but here.
IMO Coach Ellis was right to cut him and I believe there are many better Brits out there.

Why on earth do Belfast want Moran?

Why on earth do Belfast want Moran? Because he gives 100%, doesn't moan, great ambassador for the game on and off the ice, and in his short period at Sheffield was one of the most likeable and pleasant kids to approach. He improved at Sheffield due to the fact no one got on his back and he skated with good players. He will improve more at Belfast/Manchester due to his additional ice time. I wish him all the best. He deserves that.

What aspect of his game improved at Sheffield? His ability to sit still for 60 minutes?
I agree that he his a trier and very approachable, but cant agree that he improved.

I'm not quite sure where this no ice time for him in Sheffield comes from.
When we signed Moran we were short of players due to injuries to the likes of Maltby and Darby, hence why we were also after Simoes.
At that time Moran got plenty of ice time for the Steelers....basically he was on every 3rd shift.
His ice time did drop off towards the play-offs because we'd either found replacement players (Sacratini and Casalle) and/or other players were back from injury (Maltby).
When we were back up to strength on numbers Moran effectively became our tenth forward and as we were rotating 3 lines he ended up warming the bench.
As far as I'm concerned it was nothing to do with a publicity stunt. We were in need of players and Moran had just lost his job....It was an ideal fit at the time.
With the likes of Tait, Thomas, Hewitt, Tait and Phillips, there's no room for him on our roster next season, hence why he hasn't been offered a contract in Sheffield.
It all seems fairly logical to me, but I guess some people will try to look far too deep and miss the obvious.
Regards
Doom

Surely he would have realised he needs to go to a EPL team like ellis said and im sure he will be kicking him slef about the playoffs if he dint deside to leave. Hes a great lad though and im sure were ever he will go he make new freinds quickly!

All the sheffield issues aside, i have to say for Paul its a very good move. Going to a team that year after year is competing for silverware, i personally thought he would end up at a mid table team i.e newcastle or manchester. Good luck to him.

it is stated he got no ice time as whenever he played against panthers that was exactly the case and even resulted in snide comments to the such from Myers which resulted in the brawl and the sending off... To say he got time is a gross twisting of the facts Doom, even your younger brits had more ice time which ended in him being effectively benched for the laast two weeks of the season and not getting a single shift in the final that the steelers were in...
You may well have been shorthanded but out of all the players that steelers could have signed they signed a less than effective british kid (who as stated am sure is a very likeable guy) but his output is never going to be game changing hence the claim for a publicity stunt which is reinforced even more with not a whiff of a re-sign even before the steelers went on a poaching/bidding war for the brits that may change games...

How often did you watch him in Sheffield? Granted he didn't get any ice time in the play-offs, but there were plenty of games where he was on the ice virtually every 3rd shift.....That's not a twisting of facts, that's what I witnessed with my own eyes. I can't comment on the ice time he received in away games, because I wasn't there. Regards Doom

relating to steelerdean's comments. how was it not a publicity stunt. my cousins are fans of the scum and they said that he played about 1 minute each game barely did anything and took bench penalties. it was basically the same at panthers

Seriously, even after a few weeks watching him as a steeler did you HONESTLY expect him to be re-signed? I didn't expect him to re-sign because we have better Brits already. At the time when we did sign him though we were struggling for bodies. Doesn't it make sense to sign a player who's just become available rather than try and make do with a short bench and potentially cause further injuries? There may have been much better Brits out there at the time but how many of those were available? I'd take Towe and Dowd over Moran any day of the week, but they're both contracted to the Scimitars so we could only use them when the Scims didn't have a game. The signing of Moran at the time was a perfect fit as far as I'm concerned, but I'm glad we've not offered him a contract for next season. That's not to say I don't wish the kid well, he always gave 100% whenever he played for us. Regards Doom

I know you can a maximum of 10 brits in a team but i think whoever signs moran has wasted a british slot because he is just a waste of a player and a waste of a very small bit of money. I would actually still be saying this if he was signed up for us again but i don't think ellis will sign him because if he got rid of a brit towards the end of last season why sign them again to perhaps do it again later on in that season. It would just be a waste.

True enough in a strict sense, but assuming that every team uses its full allocation of imports (essential to compete), you are restricted by the limit on total bench size of 20, i.e. you cannot have (or at least dress for any game) more than 10 players other than your 10 imports. As clubs in this league cannot afford to pay players who do not dress, they are effectively restricted to 10 full-time British players.
