Here is the GB Squad, Without the Dual Nationals Netminders Stephen Murphy | UNSIGNED | Stevie Lyle | UNSIGNED |
Defense David Phillips | Hull | James Pease | UNSIGNED | Jonathan Weaver | Coventry | Tom Watkins | UNSIGNED | Graeme Walton | UNSIGNED | Danny Meyers | Nottingham |
Forwards David Clarke | UNSIGNED | Matt Myers | UNSIGNED | Tony Hand | Manchester | Greg Owen | Basingstoke | Warren Tait | Sheffield | Mark Richardson | Nottingham | Shaun Johnson | UNSIGNED | Jonathan Phillips | Sheffield | Ashley Tait | Sheffield | Paul Sample | UNSIGNED | David Longstaff | Newcastle |
Out of that list, there is only Lyle, Clarke and Myers who are Top draw players. Ellie's almost got to get his finger out to sign at least two of them.

Why does he? he is known for getting the best out of brits, maybe he feels it's time to push cooke, ferrera and maybe another brit he's to bring in rather than sign others.

Anyone know what Paul Berrington is up to? Is he fit to play?

Russ Cowley has been missed off that list I think. May well be leaving cardiff, rumoured to be returning to Coventry.
I can't see James Pease going anywhere other than Blaze next season (for about his 12th year). He's also listed on the roster page of the Blaze website.

If you get Koulikov you might have a slight problem. Because he'll go on the second line, then you'll need 3 Brits for your third line and Richardson and Myers (if he returns) are both quality centres. Therefore you're going to have a player playing out of position. Maybe no room for all of the Neil, Cooke and Ferrara gang either?!
If you don't get Koulikov then Richy or Myers could centre the second.
Oooo don't you just love Ifs and Buts! ;D

The reason I left Cowley off is he was born in Canada, so I think he may be a dual national (not sure though)
As for Ellie pushing on Cooke or Ferrera, I can see it, but IMO you need a Brit on either your 1st or 2nd line and at present neither fit the bill. With hard work and the right guidance both could be there but that is few years off.

I don't think we'll get Koulikov tbh. Isn't he a duel national though anyway? I kow he may be classed as "British", but doens't Mike Ellis & Nathan Rempel fit that bill, both play for Team GB but are classed as imports in the League. Which is stupid anyway. How can a British player play for the British national team but becomes a foreigner in the British league!?

With hard work and the right guidance both could be there but that is few years off. Richardson could do a decent job on the second line IMO. Cowley is definitely classed as Brit, otherwise Cardiff would have had too many imports last season. As long as you play 2 years at U19 then you are classed as a Brit in the EIHL.

koulikov is/was classed as truly british with no proviso so can be played as any other "brit" as for cowley led to believe same applies to him too....

Yup. Koulikovs been playing in the UK since at least U19s level so is classed as a Brit and he holds a british passport.

i think we are worrying about this a bit to much the top Brit's have all been around for a while now and it mite be time for some fresh blood from the lower leagues to pop up.
perfect exampled is meyers he stepped up and never looked out of place, plus i think we have the right bloke to find them with ellis contacts and knowledge of the lower leagues

I do not doubt that Ellie will find the "next big thing" in regards to a bringing a Brit up a league. And much as I agree with the "Old guard" such as Weaver, Lobby etc don't have many years left (Isn't Tony Hand older than Zamick?!) And new blood is working its way through GB (Richardson and Danny Mayer's are prime examples) Think about it this way, Opening day of the season, 1st Line of Last Season AHL'r - Last seasons Top Scoring EIHL'r - Top scoring Brit from EPL You would think that the coach had gone banana's. Don't get me wrong, I don't think that Clarke or Myers deserve 1st line status off the bat, but by putting a Brit on your 1st line, you drop an import to the 3rd (Unless your short on imports ) Theoreticaly making 3 more stable lines. Hence having Lyle, he frees an import slot.
