Back onto us 'splashing the cash', and in the wake of the signings of Corey and PC. From the mouth of David Clarke, Panthers are about to unveil a very very big signing (thats almost a direct quote), but he wouldnt give me a name. What with that, and the fact he has played with PC, I'm going for Smith still. sounds good

Doom that post from Simmsy hits the nail on the head.
The key word in the whole post is "Package" This is especially true for most N. Americans coming over. The American way of life means that when your offered a job, it isn't the salary your offered its the package.
In N. America people will turn down better paid jobs if it doesn't include Health care. same applies here with this. An offer of £x per week compared to £Y + House + Car + Gym membership + job for the wife + etc etc...
I have been told of more than one player who is on minimal salary form there club but his wife is being paid 3 times what the job she does is worth.
There is also the flip side of it, I've also been told that Steelers are signing Jody again and again Not only because he is a good Nettie but in addition his wife (who works for the Club) is too invaluable to loose

Having Smith will be a MASSIVE gamble for you guys IMO. The only way I can see things at the moment is that, because the British players you are signing aren't of the Tait, Clarke, Weaver mould, there's more to spend on your first line. Now, there's gonna be a lot of pressure on them for goalscoring by having less depth in the team for goals. Having Drouin - Smith - and another winger is going to set you back at least £2000 of the £7k. An injury to one of those is going to be HUGE! Will the gamble be worth it? We shall see!

I just know about Smith! Well if he wants to stay in this country he'll take your offer... Although he still has some loyalty to Cardiff. BUT...loyalty vs cash?!?!

Clarke may come back and if Smith signs i will expect him to come back !! Also only half of Drouins wage counts towards the wage cap !

If she says Smith is coming here then I shall believe her. Even though she is a squeeler!

No vested interest just passing on things i hear. After all it is a rumour forum. I'm just merely analysing from afar. It's the duty of women to analyse every little detail, did you know that? I just find it interesting how teams are gonna use the cap this year and spend it where. Some of our players won't be on as much as you think...

You mean "wife's". After that post Simms should be done for grievous abuse of grammar and apostrophes!

kind of my point Matt, the "rumour" is that is what Tait was offered by the steelers and thats all it is a RUMOUR just like the supposed fees paid to the panthers players. Both of which will be taken with a large pinch of salt....

Tait probably has a 30 goal over the season target... if it doesnt look like he will meet it.... will they cut him

Erm, I very much doubt he's on £1500! Take off the 1 and you may be slightly closer! The Smith 'rumour' is not a rumour regarding the finance offer. However, where he ends up, is....

You see what i mean? You, just like me, havent a clue but i have heard very strong rumours that the bidding wars involving sheffield for weaver hit £1400 and i doubt they would have got Tait for less. Yet you "claim" that Tait is on a third that.... you telling me that they chose Tait over Weaver because he took ALOT less of a wage? As for Smith, i put it to you again, unless you are his wife i very much doubt you have anymore idea of his supposed wage with his supposed signing (which again is very much in doubt) than I!!!...

So, Tait and Weaver are/ were in higher demand than Smith, who is the league's MVP?! Mmmm...
Ok I'll sound like a loser for this, but in the aid of trying to put off the revision I looked at how you could spread the £7100 between the team. And from that, the top line can only possibly be on £1800-£2000 between the 3 of them or the rest of the team is up poo street...
If everyone got an equal share of the cap they'd get £443 a week. Obviously give or take a few quid with the Brits and the back up goalie and you're looking at £600 max! IMO Tait/ Clarke/ Weaver/ Longstaff etc will only be on basic import wages.

I'm with Barnsleyfan on this one. The top you could be offering a top player is £1000 and you have to go short elsewhere with that!
Although I heard that Tait was on ALOT more than the rets of the guys at Coventry so he may have been on £800?? SO to get him away Shef mustve been offering him more than that.

The wage cap is only part of a players package. There are so many other benefits that can and are thrown into the equation. The wage cap only runs during the actual season as well, so any payments made in the off season count for nothing.
