Rees, i like him alot and think he did well last year but my one gripe about him is he isnt intimidating enough, he hits hard and is good at what he does BUT as hes our grinding "does exactly what it says on the tin d-man" i dont think hes big enough. its this guy id swap for a Ndur type player, you dont want naything special from him you just want forewards to hate going near the boards because they know its crash and bang time when hes there, Rees stand at 5,10 and 195 i believe, get him to 6,2 and 230 and thats what i want from a grinding d-man like him, forewards like Tessier hate it against these guys. I think there is alot more to Defense then height and weight. If you are going to swap a D player then Neilson is the man.

personally i like the d to be big and physical, 2002/03 i thought was a brilliant defense with big fellas like Hussey Charron and Thompson. i like the d to smash forewards into the boards and own there zone, imo it puts forewards off there game massively, look at Neilson in the first leg of the PO quarters, he was constantly roughing up Tessier and kept him out the game all night. i dont want the d any less physical than last season Yeah same here Nick. If we dont re-sign Neilson - and I hope we do - then we need another 6'4-6'5 guy who is going to get stuck in and make his presence known! id love neilson back and i wouldnt mind thompson back but dont no what happened to him? anybody help me??

retired to work on the family farm i believe, shame as he was a brilliant d-man who also added offense and toughness, remember him dropping Schulte after he'd slashed Pietila

I thought Ricci did a similar job to Rees this season, good pro who just got on with his job without dazzling the fans. Scott is less physical than Mike I'd say but reads the game better and as others have said, rarely makes mistakes or turnovers. He'd be the perfect foil for offensive minded Dmen like Jan and Corey. Can't see Scott being back here next season - he's on a two year deal in Sheffield as I understand it and he's the sort of guy who'd honour his contract even if we were looking to sign him. Shame though as he's a top bloke on and off the ice (Barnsley Fan describes him perfectly) and nice to see he's had no truck with any of the "hype" and mud slinging that often surrounds players who cross the Panthers/Steelers "divide".

Good points MP. However, if that article from Sheffield is to be believed, Ricci MAY be surplus to requirements in nthe land of Tin.

Surely after a season as assistant coach, he would want to continue that. There is little opportunity in Nottingham with Calle in that role.

He is 1st & foremost a player I would say, & would relish the chance to carry on playing. He's young enough, fit enough & able enough to cary on playing for a couple of years yet. Nothing to say he can't carry on coaching when his playing days tail off. Also, I would edge that duel roles are in much shorter supply.

However, if that article from Sheffield is to be believed, Ricci MAY be surplus to requirements in nthe land of Tin. If that was the case then I'd be happy to see Scott back on our blue line - and with Scott, you know he will be on the blue line when required rather than being marooned somewhere up ice! Danny Meyers is showing signs of becoming a flair player - he needs to be given some licence going forward - he's an exciting prospect. If we hang on to Jimmy then he has to play his natural game to be effective - which means surging forward from the back - and getting drawn in deep at times. Scott Ricci's game would complement them. He's not a physical player but does win the puck most of the time and doesn't waste possession. He stays out of the box and racks up the ice time - a good, solid defenceman - every team should have one! ;D

I'd have Neilson (and his 40+ point) back in a flash,..
The guy has his faults but I feel his positives out weigh them.
If we loose Jimmy,.. then we need to hang on to Corey.
