Re Darling: I was speaking to Cardiff fans at the playoffs and they all hated him! seems he hasn't improved since he left us. Getting on in years now. i hope Steelers waste as much money as possible on him. They can have him
Re Ricci: I'll take him but depends who we sign from last season first

LinkoramaIf that happened, any chance of us getting Scott Ricci back? If Scott joined us, it'd give MP an excuse to dig out that Rochester jersey I sold him I thought Ricci did a similar job to Rees this season, good pro who just got on with his job without dazzling the fans.

Coach Dave Matsos, who hopes next week to unveil a British-based Canadian as a new second-line centre, will be running the rule over Alaska Aces' roster .
From that article, anyone know what this means?? Dont get it myself...

Last season, we had no one better than him. This season, only Jimmy would rate higher. Jimmy, Danny, Reesey and Ricci would not be a shabby D at all.

your right Rob he did have extremely good games, he started the season brilliantly but didnt seem as good in the second half.
everyone wants different things from a roster, personally i like the d to be big and physical, 2002/03 i thought was a brilliant defense with big fellas like Hussey Charron and Thompson. i like the d to smash forewards into the boards and own there zone, imo it puts forewards off there game massively, look at Neilson in the first leg of the PO quarters, he was constantly roughing up Tessier and kept him out the game all night. i dont want the d any less physical than last season, i believe Ricci stands at 6,3 and 215 (somewhere around that) which isnt far from Neilsons size but if you then replace Kraciek with someone Stancoks size the d is very lacking. Rees throws his weight around but isnt big enough to really intimidate, i want to see at least two d-man of the 6,5/6,4 stature for next season as we can then have a physical presence on each d line.
for next season id love another player on the team who could rough the opposition up a bit, id really like Ndur as hes a good d-man, plays rough and could back up Shmyr if needed

I cant see Ricci coming back and tbh id much prefer Stancock back. I may be wrong but wasnt Ricci involved in the coaching side of the steelers in a type of player-assistant coach role?

yes assistant coach, doubt he would come back also but also in general if we was to sign a d-man of his size id at least want abit of toughness from him, something Ricci didnt have at all.
not the biggest fan of Stancok, good but not as good as alot of people think, just my opinion though.

If we dont re-sign Neilson - and I hope we do - then we need another 6'4-6'5 guy who is going to get stuck in and make his presence known!

As other have said, Ricci was always 'steady' & dependable. Not a flashy player, but always got things done without fuss, & I never remember him coughing up the puck like certain recent D men did.

I would like Ricci or Stancok, not both. Both seem to be steady d men. I too like it see physical d men. Jimmy is immense when he got wound up and he started to get more and more physical. Ideally, Stancock and Krajicek would be a good balanced pair. Meyers and Rees would also work well as they know each others game. But a we are missing the out and out physical guy, Ndur would be awesome. Neilson too. But I am not sure we would 4 import d men, I think Mike will go with 3 max. I suppose it depends on which Brits he signs. One d man I would love in black and gold is Neal Martin. Have always admired the guy and he would be immense. Rob

Dion. No thanks. A shadow of himself at Cardiff when compared to us last year. He is only going down hill.
Do we really need that physical edge? We have the deterrant in Shmyr and he can play... a lot better than Ndur (who has a turning circle wider than the face off Circles!)
From last year players like Jimmy and Reesys played the physical game.
Ideally someone in the same mould as Maxwell to be a hard forechecking forward would complete the roster. I think there is more to Maccas game but with him bought in as the franchise player we didnt see it as much last season.

Dion. No thanks. A shadow of himself at Cardiff when compared to us last year. He is only going down hill. Really? did you have a Cardiff season ticket this season? Remember Teddy NO Cardiff player did well in the league games at the NIC this year or did well in the home games for that matter. I would be gutted to loose Dion he is that experienced D man you need his brain is quicker than most teams 3 forward lines put together, and he was my man of the playoff weekend for us. A calming influence who just knew what to do at the right time. Also when we didnt have the rink to play in Dion was a realist through all of it and really got the team into a mindset that they couldnt do anything about it and just had to get on with things and i think that mind set carried us through that difficult time and we owe Dion a lot fo that. He also did lots of things for the club when asked. Great guy to have around and im confident we can keep him in Cardiff at least i hope so i think every team needs a dion Darling in their line up

We need fresh blood - not Dion Darling.
Scott Ricci was arguably one of the best defencemen in the league last season. Concentrates on defence first and makes hardly any mistakes. He is Mr. Reliable at the back for us. Quietly gets on with the job, no frills and no fuss. A good defender is not noticed!
And from what I hear, Darling is taking up a position in Wales...

exactly my thoughts Gazza, as far as being an enforcer hes past it as hes more prone to injuries such as dislocating shoulder etc but being a tough physical d-man who'l drop em if needed is his game now, he does it brilliantly imo. hes a veteran of the game now and i think would be a decent addition to any roster.
i get the feeling we will have three import d-men again, this is how i think it will turn out,
Meyers, couldnt ask for more as hes learning so much and imo will be a brilliant player. early last season i thought having him in the four was a mistake, a thought i am more than happy to say was one of the stupidest of the year, cant wait to see this guy carry on improving.
Rees, i like him alot and think he did well last year but my one gripe about him is he isnt intimidating enough, he hits hard and is good at what he does BUT as hes our grinding "does exactly what it says on the tin d-man" i dont think hes big enough. its this guy id swap for a Ndur type player, you dont want naything special from him you just want forewards to hate going near the boards because they know its crash and bang time when hes there, Rees stand at 5,10 and 195 i believe, get him to 6,2 and 230 and thats what i want from a grinding d-man like him, forewards like Tessier hate it against these guys.
Stancok, have a feeling Ellis guessed we'd loose Kraciek and this is the guy hes swapping him for, great d-man i will never deny that but hes not physical at all, if this is what actually happens weve certainly lost the roughness edge on the d, something il be dissapointed with.
Neilson/ Hussey type player, big lad who will throw his weight around all day long and also quite offensive, unfortunately i think we will only have one of these whilst id prefer at least two.
in a nutshell i like to see two big burly d-men on each line because then it doesnt matter how tough or big your forewards are youv got the muscle to sort things out if it all kicks off which often happens, seem to rememeber alot more line brawls since being in the Elite compared to the ISL, might just be me.
Teddy, your right Shmyr is a great asset to us as hes one of the toughest in the league and can also play well, you wont find a bigger fan of his i can assure you. its just i would like to think we had a back up there for him, im not asking for another enforcer dont get me wrong, ive said i wouldnt mind Ndur, for example primarily id want him to play rough tough hockey all night on d like Rees does but you have to admit against a team like last years Vipers another heavy on the team would be usefull if a game is turning into a fight fest, Shmyr can only be on the ice so much of the time.
