On top of all that he was the subject of appalling, unacceptable personal abuse from both the Italian & French fans. I gather Andy French who was present at the games intends to submit a letter of complaint to the IIHF . I agree with your point JAFFA, but I would also put in the word minority. I spent time meeting fans from the opposition, and to a person they told me how they admired Craighead, and they were full of compliments from our team. Its the usual story the minority can spoil it fo the rest of their fans. HL

I didn't see all the match, because we left for something to eat! The back-up goalie got injured quite early in the last period, when the score was 9-2 and they bought Satossari (spelling??) on and he didn't let a goal in. It just goes to show that maybe if he had played the whole match, then he might of kept the score down to 4 or 5 Not really sure about this back up minder situation. I personally dont think it would have made a great deal of difference. Milan were firing on all cylinders in the match. AS well as scoring 9 they missing another hatful of chances that game, and even if the first choice netminder had played I dont expect the score to have been much different! There first choice minder didnt really stand out for me. In the Amien game it was luck more than anyhting else that kept it to 3-0. I think we should concentrate on the positives, of which there were many. I dont think this netminder thing should be an issue. We came back with our heads held up high. HL

Cant argue with the fact that you have done UK Ice Hockey a great service, and for that you deserve a HUGE congratulations for it!!!!! I would love to know how on earth did CC make that save, for those who was there, was it just like Gigure's save gainst the wild in western conference final 2 seasons ago (the one where he was left out to dry on left post, and last minute dived across n saved the puck)?? Either way, from Sheffield a huge congratulations and it is a shame that yyou could not have gone on to Norway and continued to give UK hockey a good name!!

it was the perfect weekend for the Panthers if you ask me. We're unbeaten, we can hold our heads very high and we dont have to have another weekend off from EIHL duty. We've now got impossibly high confidence to take into league duty. Come on you panthers

Probably doesn't mean too much as I've not been an active fan of the game for that long but those were I think the best games of ice hockey I've ever seen (and yes I did get to both Challenge Cup Final legs last season). I spent most of the Lublijana game stood up at the back, just could't sit still for it.
It'd be unfair to single out any player for praise as we have many players and many different levels of skill and each and every one of them put an amazing amount of effort in. As a lot of people have already said it was a superb team performance. I still can't believe we did so well and with such a small squad - we were at least a full line down on every other team.
And finally, a speedy recovery to any of our injured players who happen to read this!

Every one of the team played their hearts out - well done lads! The player of the tournament for me was Cruicky, who was absolutely PHENOMENAL. The photo on the other thread shows just how good he was - unbelievable! Matt Myers was fantastic, Ivan was hilarious (again)! And how good is Kalmikov one on one! Craighead put in the best performances I have seen from him this season + deserves a medal for not taking the bait in the last two matches. I can't believe he didn't give the Amiens keeper the beating of his life a few minutes from the end of the match the other night! On a less positive note - how crap were the refs? I know I moan about ours but come back, all is forgiven! Example - JC gets hassled all night during the Amiens game, with the ref doing very little about it. Then, one of their players starts skating after him, presumably looking for a fight. JC stops dead + the player skates into him + falls flat on his face. 10 min misconduct for JC. What?! Again, well done lads - you did us all proud!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Curtis was amazing, he finally performed like i hoped he would when we signed him, just hope he can carry this on into the league and play game ingame out at that level. Scott Ricci and Calle were quality and were always their when the attack broke out esoecially against Amiens. Also thought Wojack and Scott deserved a shout, being thrown in at the deepend after playing minimal minutes this season. Big well done to all the team, managment and fans aswell, you did the team and country proud!!

I've just got back from Amiens after a 1700 mile round trip via Plymouth twice(to pick up and drop off mate) and Paris and Arras. Very tired so not read the whole thread properly so appologies if this has already been said but as well as al the well dones for the players and the rest of the Panthers oranisation and the suporters club and Brenda and what not, I think a well done is deserved for all our fans!
We were brilliant in my opinion, slightly quiet in the first game but the numbers we had there and the noise we made in the last 2 games was great. And wel done to who ever brought all them balloons. Had some fun with them ;D

Well I have only been a hockey supporter for 4 years but it just gets better and better.
I had the best weekend ever 6 games in three days and I can honestly say I think we were the best.
No one really gave us a chance, but what a team we have. Its been said before no one can really be singled out (except for CC probably) because everyone gave everything they had and more.
I am really proud to be a panthers fan I'm just sorry I wasn't one sooner
By the way a couple of Sheffield supporters went at the weekend and they were brilliant for us. Thanks for coming and I was proud to meet 2 real fantastic hockey supporters. EVen you did us proud
WELL DONE LADS CAN'T WAIT FOR SATURDAY.

I just thought I'd chip in and say that the Gothiques fans, on their website, are commenting on how nice the Panthers fans were at the tournament. It's a shame that racist element was there, but in Italy especially, it seems to be more acceptable than here. Which is very sad, still a great weekend for you guys. WELL DONE NOTTINGHAM!

What a truely fantastic weekend on the continent.
The only negatives to come from the weekend were the injuries, but talking to Paul Moran before Sunday's game, it looks like they'll be easily cleared up.
We played the best 3 game strech I think I've ever seen us play. The guys just didn't give up, every single one played with 110% commitment. I don't really want to single out players, but Curtis Cruickshank was incredible over all 3 games and Matt Myers was superb also.
The highlight for me was the atmosphere at Sunday nights game against Amiens, a complete bear pit atmosphere that was reminiscent of the old Ice Stadium.
The biggest laugh had to be the chant of 'n*b jockey' directed at the referee by the Panthers fans at Friday's game against Milan. Some Amiens fans sat to our left, who could obviously speak English, found it hilarious!
In conclusion, if we play like that for the rest of the season & show the same amount of heart & desire, we'll easily walk away with all 3 trophies.

What a weekend! The phrase "Proud to be a Panther" was never more apt. Cruicker - well, its all been said. I was right behind Rozenthals flick at the "empty" net and thought at first it must have deflected off Scott Ricci as he was the only Panther in sight. How Curtis got across was unbelievable. The sad thing is that this was a shop window, and I don't think he'll be with us next season.
The same could be true of Scott Ricci. Everything he did had class written over it, and made to look so easy. If he doesn't end up in the all-star team at the end of the season somebody else will have had to do something special, but that's just what our Captain did in all three games. Calle maintained the high standard he'd set earlier in the season - and the stats showed he was a net +4(+5 &-1), which was 2 clear of everybody else. Magdosko did well given the obvious difficulty he was having with his injury. Richard Wojiak didn't look out of place at all and Mopes was giving his all, as usual, until his injury. Only negative IMHO about the defence was Krulis. His game against Amiens was appalling. Dumb penalties; giving the puck away on several occasions; thank goodness the rest of the team made up for him!
Kalmikov looked much better than his last few games and certainly caught the eye. Matt Myers was outstanding and fully deserved his MoM award against Lubjana. Caddy chased every puck as if his life depended on it. Marek Ivan - not sure he was the right choice as MoM v Amiens, and he still managed to look a bit lazy at times. There were several times in the Lubjana game where he took the wrong option on several 2 on 1s which had they been converted might have given us a better goal difference going into the last game. David Clarke was pretty well marked in all the games - I think his name had appeared on the Amiens website as one to watch, so not surprising, but he still contributed massively. JC played with his brain in the 2nd and 3rd matches. Don't think he appreciated the automatic game penalty for fighting when Milan sent Matthew Smith on to get him out of the game. He clearly understood it against Lubjana when he covered up and watched their goon being ejected. What on earth the ref saw to merit his 10 minute misconduct against Amiens was beyond me and all those in the vicinity. Daniel Scott showed just how much he's developed - and credit PA here for giving him an early baptism v Lubjana and sending him out on his next shift. Kimmi Ahlroos was a net +2 (+4,-2), and took his chance against Milan superbly. Can't say much about Roman Tvrdon - there is a scouting report on one website that starts "Will his shoulder problem linger throughout his pro career" - say no more. Paul Adey managed to out-coach some of the best in Europe. Great game plans, especially against Milan. We made them and there NHL"stars" look pretty ordinary. We forced Amiens to use their time-out after 9 minutes! Some fans were suggesting that now we've found a system that works we should use it all the time in the Elite League. Hmmm, not sure it would go down too well if we played that way week in week out at the NIC against "lesser" opposition. It worked in this tournament because all the players were up for it and well motivated. I often think that our arena only serves to motivate the opposition. Anyone who thinks we will now stroll the league is in for a shock. We are now the team they will all want to beat, and the league is a completely different ball-game to the past weekend.
The Stripeys - poor isn't the word. I expected a much higher standard. One offside call against JC was just awful, the puck was a good foot outside the zone, and some of the penalty calls were unbelievable. Aren't there any NHL refs who fancy a busman's holiday in Europe?
Thanks to all in Amiens who made us feel so welcome. I thought the Milan fans were awesome with their singing, but the racist stuff was appalling - I couldn't understand why nothing was said to them. The French fans appreciated our play - as I walked to the Australian Bar on Sunday night a carload of them pulled up and offered congratulations. Talking of the Australian Bar, good to see Timo Willman in there mixing with fans along with 8 of our boys (mostly Brits!).
Great Arena, creating a really good atmosphere. We really ought to sort out some drums at our place, and get a few songs going.
Bring on the Devils!!

Well I don't think there's much more I can say, what a great weekend. The players played out of their skins, the coach out smarted the best in Europe, the back room staff patched up the wounded and the fans shouted themselves horse ;D It was nice to meet some of the regulars on here, and it was great to be in another country with so many happy smiling panthers. Lets give the boys the heros welcome they deserve on Saturday, anyone own a trombone? We all live in a yellow submarine........
