Is there a number that evokes more warm memories and powerful emotions than this one?
In the early days it was worn by a series of players who at that time (and possibly even to this day) were some of the most popular ever to pull on the black-and-gold; Terry Gudziunas, Jeff Andison, Robin Andrew.
Eventually it passed to one of the most promising young players to come through our junior development system, Gary Rippingale, and it was his tragically early death that means there will never again be a number 3 Panthers shirt. On the occasion of our first home game after he died we all stood to remember him, and one by one the Panthers players let their sticks fall to the ice, the noise of each echoing one after the other around the packed but completely silent Stadium. A powerful few moments that I think will never be forgotten by those present.
1980/80 Tony MacDonald 1981/82 Jeff Andison, Tim Heron 1982/83 Terry Gudziunas 1983/84 Mick Broadhead, Gary Clarson, Darren Farnsworth, Nick Flint, Tim Heron 1984/85 Jeff Andison, Robin Andrew 1985/86 Robin Andrew 1986/87 Jason Martin, Dave Phillips 1987/88 Jason Martin, Nick Flint 1988/89 Jason Martin 1989/90 Jason Martin, Matt Trickett, Gary Rippingale 1990/91 Gary Rippingale 1992/93 Gary Rippingale

Is Rippingale the one who was killed in a car crash near to the Castle in Carlton? No, he choked on his own vomit in his sleep back in 91
