christ almighty, there is nothing more cliquey than hockey and buster made a joke at our expense. I dont see any problem with it! Just another reason really that mods should close these threads... after all Knights have their OWN FORUM now that nobody uses. At the moment these threads just give the impression we are so far up own ass that we cant have a laugh! to be honest, it was a joke at my own expense too, as i'd expressed my interest in the knights (even tried to get my housemate to design a shirt) but im not good enough to play, hence the standing in the cold. oh well. Oh come on, don't act like the little boy in the corner nobody will play with. You keep staying you are left outside in the cold and you can't get into this super secret boys club when in actual fact you have never once asked if you could come down and play. That's probably the reason you ain't iced with us. Dunno, a jokes a joke, but you seem on a constant wind up, how can anyone on here be expected to take you seriously. I think it's because you are in constant joke mode that peopleare unsure as to if you are being serious or whether you are in fact joking.

I've said above also, that I've showed interest in the knights, and if you read other threads rob, I've said i want to play, but only when my skating gets better. i suppose that's dead and buried now though. i'm here for a laugh as well as to talk about hockey. some people take to that, others cant see it. thats where the confusion has arisen in my opinion.

If you really want to play, the only way to get better is to jump in at the deep end. Rob, Martin and others have done it and improved loads.
First time I saw TeddyC skating, I didn't think he was that good, but then when he was practising with the Stix one time, I noticed he'd made a big improvement within less than a year.
Get yourself lots of vaseline though, for all the kissing up to Kev which you'll have to do.

Thanks a lot buster I may never live that down. Seriously though, it's all about effort and determination. You probably got told at school long ago that you only get out what you put in. I was lucky enough that an opportunity came about (Thanks Rob, Trev) to have a go at ice hockey with the Sheffield Stix. That's literally what it was, have a go, that's the ethos of the club. I took that chance. I've been a fan years and always fancied a go. However beforehand I had been living abroad and couldn't play. At that time I couldn't really afford the kit either. Rob offered to help me. We sourced out some kit, we went down and although rocky I stepped on the ice. First thing I was told is if you're not falling you're not playing. Now I'm a n00b. A real n00b. I've been playing I think since Sept. 07 and I ave come on leaps and bounds. I'm nowhere near the league of Rob, Kev, Rich, Ted and many others, but by jove (LOL) I graft. I want to play and I love playing and I am aware that Iam not and will never be an NHLer. That said, I'm picking the game up at my own pace, improving every session, working on my skating and puck handling and generally getting better but having fun at the same time. A laugh and a joke is fine buster and it's not some secret boys club with complicated handshakes. Kev has worked bloody hard to set up a team in Nottingham and as far as I'm aware it was open to anyone who fancied a crack regardless of the level. Kev has a good sense of humour but joking in an aggressive manner with someone you don't know is just going to make people think you're a bit of a corporate banker. It's good to see that you're working on your skating but nothing prepares you for the first time you kit up, do some drills and play.

It's good to see that you're working on your skating but nothing prepares you for the first time you kit up, do some drills and play. cheers youth, to be fair, i was chatting to jms and the subject of the knights came up, even though i am 'not welcome' i've said nothing but good things about kev's determination (followed it closely with the hope of playing since i joined the forum and the old thread) and the success of starting this up. its a bloody good acheivement. with dave, i pm'd him while it was going on to say that it was all a bit of fun, he agreed and we both kept it up. while i can see how it may look to people who didnt know we had an understanding, it was genuinely a bit of harmless fun between two lads having a laugh. nothing more. to be honest fella, i pretty much want to start playing for the love of the sport, i have no idea if i'll be any good, but i just want to give it a crack. i've enjoyed my lessons so far and i want to take it to the next level.
