Dont know if this will help but i play for Peterborough Phoenix (Rec Team) as a Nettie and have never done any form of training or grading prior apart from playing back in my school days but again didnt do any grades or anything. About 10 years ago i played as a D man back home for a good 3 years, left school, moved etc and then showed up in peterborough end of last year and they helped me out with kit etc threw me on the ice and said there ya go lol so im "Self teachin" as we dont actually have a "Coach" really just some guys who "Take Charge" and run the show/orgonise games. So from my experience id say you dont HAVE to have any grades etc to play but thats just my experience.

You don't need to have passed a skate UK grade to play Senior rec hockey.

Skating practice is the key. No excuse not to start that now, just in case this ever get's off the ground - or you pluck up the courage to try the Northstars.

oh man, i stuck my nose into helping this out, cause i thought maybe the people sorting it where short on time, and couldnt get roudn to sorting it out, turns out the nic are just really, reallyyyyy crap at getting back to people and getting things sorted out, dont they want our money ?

The NIC couldnt give a toss about rec hockey in general, public skating, teletubbies triping on acid whilst on ice and ice dance for about 12 people is all they seem to care about.
I think there is a deluded dream in there that the next torvil and dean will come from there soon.

I say we all go down there in hockey gear on a public session and charge the ice.

Being as this isnt going to happen due to the NIC being a bunch of morons ive decided to just go along to northstars for now, not much else unless you want to trek to sheff every week.

After 23 pages its pretty much as I predicted, lots of interest but the people starting it dont realise how difficult it is. Step one failed, probably for the best as it would have been difficult to run a hockey team from scratch

nice optomistic outlook there. At least they tried. I am sure they knew how hard it is but how can you know if you can do it if you do not try. You fail EVERY challenge you do not attempt!!
