One piece is more rigid, the stick flexes where is supposed to whereas a 2piece will always flex at the join aswell on big shots.
2pieces work out cheaper as you can replace blades and I wudnt go back to one piece. I use a synthesis which is like using a 1piece tho is it has lo kick. No idea how it works but it does make a difference!

Rich, two pieces dont flex so much at all, as they can't flex at the joint of the blade... one pieces therefore have more flex.
One piece all the way!!! Depends on how much money you have to shell out, and how serious you are about hockey.

Also, if you break a one piece at the blade, you can cut the blade off and insert one to become a 2-piece.

One piece all the way!!! Depends on how much money you have to shell out, and how serious you are about hockey. i am very serious im hoping to take an intensive skate cours in january and then fingers crossed manchester will have a rec team, following that im hoping to join the sheffield ice tigers when i move there next september, i want to play this game ;D as for cash, it wont be a problem when i initially buy my kit but later on once i have moved it may come into, flat to rent wedding to save for ;D but to start budget not a problem.

OPS but 2 peice if you are starting out as you can experiment with curves, lies and stuff and 2 peices are more likley to just break the blade so can easily be replaced although OPS have better feel and responsiveness
OPS=One peice shaft

I know what you mean Kilner, what a gypsy!
If you are starting out I'd also reccomend you use a woodie as they have good feel

Yeh but when learning to shoot I'd rather break a £25-40 stick then a £200 one which you may do alot of when you start out

Lol, i've been playing over 10 years and never broken a stick. The just wear down. Also one pieces have that guarantee that if you break them... you can send them back. That has never happened to me!
I started off with woodies... I think everyone did. However, when i started out, kit was expensive and I had a load of second hand stuff, and gradually built up my "nice" kit.

Warrenty only lasts for 30days and being in the UK and having the hastle of shipping both ways means almost the cost of another OPS

I usually get through new new sticks every couple of months but my easton synthesis 2piece has lasted me since before christmas. I still get thro blades every couple of months but its better to replace £30 blades than £150 sticks/shafts!

do you have to get sticks specific to left or right handed or does it make a difference?

I'd have thought a shaft is a shaft, whether you play left or right. Only the blade varies, but I could be wrong. I thought you just went out and got the shaft, so to speak! I'm currently using a two piece. I much prefer the lightweight two piece over the wood stick I have. I also had a graphite one piece earlier this year, but I snapped the blade. I prefered the one piece, but the prices keep me with two.

Only 2 peices are changable, but there are shafts like the Nike Ergo that are concave on 1 side for added strength/ flex on the forehand side, there are only about 5 shafts like this though so it's pretty unlikley you'll find one, basically if you get one from Nottingham or Sheffield it won't be righthand/left hand specific, but it will always be stated if it is on the internet.

I have just purchased a Vapor XXX Lite, but I daren't use it in case in snaps!! Its a 67 flex as opposed to my last stick, a 80 flex (I'm a lady you know!!) so its going to be a whippy... yee ha!
My Vapor XX has split at the blade, but I'm going to cut it off and use it as a 2 piece as a spare.
Saying that we should start a thread on here for any unwanted/wanted kit... At the moment I don't have anything I want to get rid of...

To start out if your on a budget get a wooden one piece but if youve got a bit of cash get a nice shaft and then you can experiment with blades.
Speaking of which, Andy do you still want that Ultra lite buddy? Iv got my synthesis grip now so dont need it mate
