The Nottingham Moose Inline Hockey club are recruiting over the summer! We run as a Rec club/team that plays in the GBinline Midlands League. We are of various abilities and ages, (16-50+). Training is at The Derby Storm Centre on Mondays at 19.00, Wednesdays at 20.00, and sometimes on Fridays at Ollerton Leisure Centre. This is available to anyone aged 16-90 with any level of ability. This is an opportunity to try the sport out or dust the rust off your old kit. To find out more, follow The Moose. Here you can browse the site and click contact to mail your phoe number and any questions. We will get back to you and fill you in on any details. Spread the word MOOSE!!

They pick their players on who attends the most training sessions rather than who performs the best!!!
Can someone explain why they do this?

because it is only rec
and it is totally unfair you you attend ever session paying out a fair bit of money and never get to play, yet someone who turns up once every two months and is pretty good get to play ahead of you when he is not helping the club at all

They pick their players on who attends the most training sessions rather than who performs the best!!! Can someone explain why they do this? Couple of reasons really; A good committed player will turn up for training as much as possible anyway. The game is very tactical and needs all four out skaters to know exactly what they and others are doing. (it only takes one to mess it up, (the one that does not turn up for training)). Therefore training as a team is much more beneficial. Overall the Moose is a new team that IS serious. It's just that we have not forgotten the plight of people who are a bit wobbly or rusty that want to play for fun. We will not look down on any level of ability. The MOOSE is set up to run a GBinline Team and lots of Friendlies for the players that do not make the 1st team because playing matches is where the buzz is at!. The point is EVERYONE gets a chance if they train hard!. Amen ;D

We do this for fun, and to play as a team. But at the end of the day the club will never be in the same league as the rollersnakes etc unless my plan to tempt them away with a free choclate hobnobs comes off..... ;D

Where do i sign?
I love hob-nobs...
on a serious note,
How the moose select their team is how even the best teams select their match squads!! Not being funny, but that is why it is a team!! Whether it be playing for the lions or rollersnakes, if people dont turn up, they dont play!!
I personally think it is a great for the moose, being a new club, to do this... It is far easier if they get a few ringers in but they have chosen to do it properly! Means they will have a close team and improve as a team which can only be a good thing...
THe rollersnakes greatest asset is how close we all are as friends...

If you turn uo every week to training? Then surely shouldn't you be one of the best players?

No
because you can have someone with a natural talent for the game
like some people can be playing for a very short time but be as good as someone who has been playing 10 years

Kinda,
So its fantastic you attend training week in week out very comendable, but how much effort do you put in whilst training, learning the drills, listening to whats being said etc thats the hard part.
I dont know why though, but getting taught new hockey drills brings out the most gormless looks, faces of utter confusion and a desire not to be first in line its untrue. I think you could have a phd in astrophysics but as soon as you put your hockey kit on you have the brain capacity of small ferret.

Don't be hard on yourself, you do alright ;D Also some of the best individual players seem to have a problem grasping the team play skills which are the only way to beat good teams. Jag 7, come and try it to answer your questions
