Just to let everyone know that the Nottingham Junior Ice Hockey Club (The most successful junior club in the UK in 2005/2006) has a new official website. It has just gone online and is still being developed by the club so there are still some empty pages, but if you want to see what the junior teams are doing in Nottingham then have a look. www.nihc.info

I'm interested in starting Skate UK? How long do you think it'll take me to get from the start through to actually picking up an ice hockey stick if you're an average skater? (I.E. Have skated a few times, quite a decent inline skater) Help please

I went straight down to Stix. Couldn't skate. Jumped on with them and a year and a half later I'm on with the knights. Granted I'm not great but I play for the good times. Do it mate. That's my advice.

What's Stix? You're talking to a complete novice with how this whole systems work, I have a decent idea about ice hockey, but not how the junior setup works at the moment! Have a couple of mates in the setup and they say it's good and they came from Skate UK. Thanks for the help guys, I am up for trying it

I think you pretty much have to do SkateUK if you are 15 and are wanting to get into a team. Basically you'd need to go up to level 4/5 skateUK (obviously going higher would benefit you more) and then progress onto the hockey grades which are from level 1-6. Then by the end of hockey level 6, if you've not already sorted out joining the under 16/18's (depending when your birthday is), then you'd be best off going to the extra training sessions which are on Saturday and Sunday mornings and Monday nights. I don't think you need to have completed grades to go on those either so you can still do those while you're doing your grades as long as you have full kit. However don't hold me to that as you may have to be insured/registered for insurance reasons.

Wicked, have a look when the courses start because they're every 6 weeks so you may have to wait a bit if you only just miss one.

Bit of a long shot here but... do any of the Nottingham teams need a team photographer? I'm looking to boost my portfolio with some action shots so it makes sense to have a crack at a sport I know and enjoy

doubt you'd get paid for it, but you could try taking photo's of the Mavericks. i know Dave Page does the Varsity shots though, wouldn't want to step on anyones toes, eh?

I'm not sure if any team needs a photographer, because I only know about the Lynx and the Vipers, and they both have people who take photos. For certain age groups you'd need to get permission from parents/managers of both teams for child protection reasons. You also need a photography pass 'thing' as far as i'm aware from the NIC itself too.
I'm sure if you said to a team what you are doing and where the pictures were going they wouldn't object to you doing it, but you'd obviously have to speak to the team managers themselves.
If you wanted me to get you in touch with the Vipers manager I can do, but we do have a team photographer but I'm sure the odd game wouldn't matter if you came down.
In regards to the other teams, I don't know, but somebody else on here may be able to help.
The rec teams may like some photos taking too? But I don't know about them either, but I could get you in touch with someone from both of those if you wanted to try.
Hope this helps, sorry it's not much use!

for the under16's you'd need a crb check alongside the consent of the parents, coach, etc etc.
