As suggested by Grumpyminer we now have a general music thread for you (us)all to air our views.
The other thread is now locked.

Ok, thanks to Alf for starting us off, I just haven't had time over the last day or so to get the thread up and running.
My idea was to have a general Music thread where you can talk about what you listen to, what you have bought or downloaded, whether you think it is any good, do your own cd reviews, pass on snippets of info about artists/tours etc....though I think concerts maybe deserve a thread of their own.
Also any music that could/should be used at the hockey, stick it on here.
One more thing - REMEMBER... ...just because you don't like a singer/band/style of music, tha doesn't mean it is crap. Have some respect for other peoples tastes, please.
Thanks Grumpyminer

That comes as no surprise Music, like any other art-form, is subjective. People are free to like whatever they like and shouldn't feel as though they're being shouted down by some pompous/opinionated 'experts'.

Even though i dont like the button, i can see my first 'ignore user' click comming up. A thread like this needs no petty arguements at all. Someones favorite band is good to them, even if you disagree. I may not like something of yours, but i wont say its pants. Each genre of music appeals to different people. Respect that and lets leave the usual petty stuff out for a change. Dont think i have seen a thread in a long time that hasnt resorted to some sort of school playground biccering. Good idea for a thread IMO. I often like to hear what others say about an album before downloading it.

After spending a season as a holiday rep, i too learnt to appreciate all kinds of music. My ipod must be one of the most diverse you will ever find!
Downloaded 'Boys Like Girls' new album last night. For those of you into that kind of music, i highly reccommend it. Fairly easy to listen to, some OK lyrics and an album that you can just whack on and find yourself at the end of it before you know it!

i despair for this board sometimes, i really do, thanks to grumpyminer, my faith has been restored slightly.
only slightly as two of the people who seem to have their heads screwed on actually thought i was being serious.
that aside, has anyone heard of 'red sparrows'?

Are they the RAF's junior aerobatic display team? ;D
Edit: Or maybe a folk/rock instumental band with Pink Floyd influences and undertones.

yeah, theres members of isis in the mix, but forget the folk and pink floyd influence bit (i could have just said a 'post-rock' instrumental band)
not a band for the ice arena in any way, but a fantastically, whimsical and deeply layered and textured album (at the soundless dawn) that is well worth a listen if you are open to music that stands away from the norm.

Apologies if you weren't being serious. It seemed consistent with the way you have commented on musical tastes that differ from your own in the past though. Also it lacked smileys, and I know how much you like your smileys

Been listening to The Smith's earlier. Shame they were a great band. You can really tell Marr was the brains in that band.

Try Duke Special songs from the deep forest Glad you liked it! Going to see Laura Veirs next week at the Maze. She's brilliant, in a quirky kind of way. Certainly individual.

i heard a new band today called 'black tide'.
aside from the widdly guitar buts (like when my chemical romance try to be like queen) they are pretty good, have a very 80's garage band sound. some of the rock folk on here might like them.

Being around in the 80's, when the original "hair metal" bands (I really HATE that term, but I suppose it fits the genre) were the big thing, I am a massive fan of the widdly guitar bits (this IS the technical term!). I really like This. Not much else on youtube that has any real quality. But I will look out for these, cheers buster, keep 'em coming
