While I’ve no doubt that DS has given a lot of his time to try and grow the game in the UK over the last however many years, if I was in a senior position with the Steelers organisation I’d have to think it was about time to move on. Sport and society has changed, prior to this latest of many foot in mouth outbreak his ‘antics’ are pretty shabby and outdated. He was lucky to survive the homophobia stuff a few years back. It just feels disappointing that we’re talking about him yet again. For me, barring the occasional flickering every now and again it hasn’t felt like a real rivalry for a long time. In the ISL days you used to look for those games immediately, they were really fierce and the atmosphere was always brilliant but I don’t feel we’ve had that kind of intensity since the days of Finnerty v Richardson, Tessier’s move back and forth or maybe the very shady trade with Belfast to try and halt our title run in 2013. Very true Mike, good post that. Even Simms will likely realise after recent tragic events the rivalry is now fully extinguished forever and maybe his latest crass remarks are his misguided way of trying to re ignite it. It’s just the sort of stupid, thoughtless and insensitive thing he would do.

He must hate the fact alot of steelers fans have confided with panthers fans and the club in the aftermath of this tragedy, totally agree whatever was left of this 'rivalry' has diminished now . This old dinosaur is still trying his hardest to re ignite it .. all he has for back up is his old cronies and hangers on... Who is also diminishing more by the day ..

Simms always has and always will be an idiot. Far too many comments over the years and still he has a job. Tony Smith should grow a pair and sack him. I cannot stand him. Exactly this - he’s been homophonic, xenophobic, abusive on the mic, he’s sunk to a level of low with his tweet that I thought he wouldn’t go to. No doubt usual empty apology will follow in a few days and then normal service will resume and in 12 months or so another incident will happen, and the process repeats.

What does he have to do to get sacked?

In support of Pidge's cooments this moron must realise he is on borrowed time. A lot of the Steelers fanbase must be shocked and abhorred by his reckless remarks. There were a lot of children there that could potentially be mentally scarred by what they witnessed. Adults are struggling with it, god knows what the little ones are going through. It's time for him to bow out 'gracefully', if he understands the word, before he is removed forcibly from the sport. Assuming of course that someone has the balls to do that. I pray that none of the Johnson family get wind of the value that this cretin has put on Adam's life.

And some discerning people will not think of attending the sport through this kind of behaviour. But good crowds prevail. However, as soon as a good amount of people may say they will not be attending or sponsoring because of this type of thing, response would be quick.

What does he have to do to get sacked? I think he could drop his trousers and lay something brown on Tony Smith's desk and still be in the job next week.

From what I have heard about him and things he has said in the past, I’m not convinced that Tony Smith is a shining example of a pillar of society himself.
Simms is ingrained into the Steelers organisation and I suspect he always will be

Of course they end up making it about themselves. Steelers fans have been great since the tragedy but the organisation itself will always refuse to change its spots

It's a Rembrance Day programme with Petgrave's name on it as well as Johnson? Petgrave who hasn't iced again tonight. HOW can they not realise they're basically suggesting Petgrave is dead?
I'm stunned. I give it another couple of hours before the Internet is a buzz with rumours of Matt having taken his own life.
How do they think this is a) appropriate or b) supporting their player. They just put a massive internet target on their player, whilst also explicitly reminding people he was involved in the accidental death of Adam.
If I was Matt, I'd be *bleeping* fuming and walk away from the organisation.
He's clearly not ready to ice for them again and then they stir up things again. Moronic
Do it right. Do a Remembrance cover. Then next week support Matt if you want by putting him on the cover if that's your intention.
This just insulted veterans, Adam's family and also threw their own player under the bus.
Completely and utterly classless. And they've got to have known the message this would send

I wasn't sure it would ever be easy to attend an away game at Sheffield again, but this...
... I'm done. I'll never set foot there again whilst they have that idiot in charge of *bleep* like that, nor will I ever give them any other source of income via webcasts etc.
Sheffield's fans have been great. But their organisation is classless.
Twitter was full of Steelers fans who were already criticising Simms. After this they must be cringing in embarrassment.

I think a minute’s applause and a show of support for Petgrave is fine and understandable, the guy has been subject to all manner of abuse and the worst kinds of abuse online since the tragedy.
But that cover just doesn’t sit right with me whatsoever.

But that cover just doesn’t sit right with me whatsoever. Exactly that. Is an applause the ideal thing to show him support? Probably not, but there isn't much else a group of fans can do collectively. It's pretty much all we have without getting in to chants. That cover though. Got to be brain dead to think that putting those 2 names on an equal standing like that is a good idea. I have plenty of sympathy for Petgrave, but the levels of sorrow and sympathy are galaxys apart.

But that cover just doesn’t sit right with me whatsoever. Exactly. He needs all the support he can get. It would be a horrible situation for him regardless, then the racist trolls took it up and amplified it and now Simmsy has served the haters an easy ball to smash. Petgrave needs our support and the support of his organisation. Instead they do this But that cover is wrong and not thought through. And it doesn't help Petgrave either. So it's failed in both aims

Sums it up very nicely spik. The "bung it all on the front cover" approach was never going to work.
