I've not been a season ticket holder since around the 2012 season but when i go to the odd game these days it seems we lack any stand out star players. The guys with that bit extra skill and talent. What do people think is the reason for this? I've always been inclined to believe it's Neil Black watching his wallet. Teams like Steelers and Giants never have any problems finding star players season after season so what's our problem? Where are the Galbraiths, Beauregards, Tessiers and Lings ect.?

Who's Steelers and giants stand out Star men this year. I'm struggling to think of any you can’t think of any? Conway (78 points in 53 games last season and 22 in 12 for challenge cup)? Raska? Petgrave? Latal was solid for Sheffield last season. Brendan Connolly has been a point per game or better player every season he has spent in the league. I’m expecting Angeli to do well. To say they don’t have any is bizarre.

The original post was there wasn't any star players in Nottingham well Hammond is one of them and he's certainly no worse than those you've mentioned yes but I was replying to your post not the original. I’d also say Hammond is our star player. Doesn’t make what I said wrong. The first Wallace/ Doucet year we had Sam Herr (best player in the league that season without a doubt) Cardiff still had star players ( Joey Martin, Joey Haddad, Gleason Fournier) Sheffield had star players ( Brendan Connolly, Marc Olivier Vallerand and Deluca).

So shouldn't that quote be towards the post originator then as he said we haven't had any star players and in the last 3 years we had one of the best to have played EIHL in the last decade !

No because you said that you can’t see any star players that Sheffield have or Belfast have. So I’ll ask the question again. You don’t think Conway or Connolly are star players for them? That’s my question since you stated you don’t think they have any. To the reply of the original post Sam Herr was the best player in the league while he was here and this season I think our stand out player will be Hammond (although I like Welychka a lot as well).

They ain't what you would describe as star players! Players with that x factor. Herr had that in abundance.. Conway and Connelly are good players but not star players . Joey Martin is nearer to being a star player. Last year JJ Picinich was a star player .. there's a difference in my book

Last year JJ Picinich was a star player .. there's a difference in my book fair enough, I’d also say that Picinich was THE star player last season but I don’t expect Conway to fall off majorly because he isn’t there now (although it’ll be very hard to replicate what he did last season). Personally I’d argue that Connolly would count as a star player for me. A nasty Agitator that rarely fails to get under opponents skin, on top of that he has been a stand out point scorer in our league every season. Personally I think that the edge he brings to his game could count him as that.

Would be nice to have a combo like Coventry had in Calder and Carlson. That pair were dynamite working together, real quality.

He’s all that and more. He’ll be an all star D in this league without doubt.

Who's Steelers and giants stand out Star men this year. I'm struggling to think of any It's time to choose your Player of the Month for September 2022! Scott Conway: Five games played, five wins for the Giants, nine goals scored, and three assists in September! GB International Conway hit 12 points over the months, was a +7, won 62% of his faceoffs, and scored a hat trick against Glasgow. Thank goodness he's not their star guy.

I think you've misunderstood the thread Bob, Conway is decent but not David ling decent.. Don't think he's misunderstood it at all Pidge, and certainly not from an EIHL perspective Across all competitions their point per game averages of 1.52 and 1.53 are essentially identical and since Conway has got there quicker (and at a younger age) there's also a good chance his PPG average will go up as he develops. And I don't think there are many Giants fans who wouldn't argue he's a game changer for them. So I think Bobness is entitled to his opinion and that by comparing him to Ling yourself you've kind of made his argument for him - and certainly in PPG terms

Conway is a star player in this league for me. However on the subject of Giants. They look to have a couple of duds in Angeli and McAuley. 3 goals in 20 games between them, McAuley without a single point and both had pretty good CV’s beforehand

Hopefully Hammond steps it up now and has the same impact that Conway has had for us. Welsh has been leading the way for us of late, hopefully some others start firing in the same way because there’s some potential in our forward ranks

Smooth and unhurried. And he does, so far, what D men are supposed to do, for me. To quote Moneyball "He gets on base". By which I mean "He doesn't get scored on". (i.e. good +/-) He's only leading the league in that stat so far. +9 in 6 games.
