PART 8: The Challenge Cup (for fixtures and results see lower down) Group Stage
Group A: Belfast Giants, Dundee Stars, Fife Flyers, Glasgow Clan (1 Home, 1 Away) Group B: Cardiff Devils, Coventry Blaze, Guildford Flames (2 Home, 2 Away) Group C: Manchester Storm, Nottingham Panthers, Sheffield Steelers (2 Home, 2 Away)
Overtime & Shootouts will be played in the Group Stage to produce a winner if games are tied after 60 minutes. Group Stage games are scheduled to be completed by the end of November.
In the event of teams being equal on points for first place in the group, the following criteria will decide the final group ranking: i. Total number of points. ii. Total number of games won in regulation time. iii. Total number of all games won (regulation, overtime and penalties). iv. The results of games played between the relevant teams by applying points won, games won in regulation time, all games won (regulation time/overtime/penalties), in that order of priority. v. Fewest regulation losses. vi. Using away games: – points won, games won in regulation time, all games won (regulation time/overtime/penalties), in that order of priority. vii. Goals scored. viii. Goal Difference ix. Fewest Penalty Minutes (Fair Play) x. In the unlikely event of teams still being equal, teams will be ranked by the drawing of lots. Any prize monies determined by the position in a league or group by this means will be shared equally by the tying teams. xi. Where a group of two or more teams is tied, then whenever a team can be eliminated due to the above order of priority, it shall be, by applying each of the above stages in order of such priority.
Knockout Stages The top-seeded team from groups A, B and C automatically move on to the Knockout stage seeded 1 – 3 according to their win percentages in the group stage. The remaining 5 teams are ranked 4 – 10 according to the same principle. Teams 9 and 10 are eliminated. If any teams have equal win percentages, they shall be split according to the following criteria: i. Total number of points. ii. Total number of games won in regulation time. iii. Total number of all games won (regulation, overtime and penalties). iv. Fewest regulation losses. v. Using away games: – points won, games won in regulation time, all games won (regulation time/overtime/penalties), in that order of priority. vi. Goals scored. vii. Goal Difference viii. Fewest Penalty Minutes (Fair Play) ix. In the unlikely event of teams still being equal, teams will be ranked by the drawing of lots. Any prize monies determined by the position in a league or group by this means will be shared equally by the tying teams. x. Where a group of two or more teams is tied, then whenever a team can be eliminated due to the above order of priority, it shall be, by applying each of the above stages in order of such priority.
All games in the Quarter- and Semi-Finals are aggregate-scoring, home and away series. Overtime will only be played if the score is tied on aggregate after 60 minutes have been played in the return leg. In both stages, the option of home-ice advantage for the return leg will be given to the higher-seeded team. In the Semi-Finals, the highest remaining seed plays the lowest remaining seed for the first pairing; and the two remaining teams play in the second pairing. The Final will be held In March 2022. PART 10 Statistical nuggets from the 22-23 season. (League games only) Post game vs Blaze, 31 December 27 games gone, of 54, so bang on halfway
Panthers are playing 600 hockey at home and 333 hockey away. Panthers are outshooting their opponents by 5 shots a game, but have scored 16 fewer goals. Panthers have only been outshot in 9 games of the 27. Games 17 through to 26, Panthers outshot their opponent in every game, by a total of 115 shots. Their record in those games was 5-5-0, outscored 28-33. The longest points scoring streak for a player so far is 7, by Kelly Summers, games 6-12 inclusive. Welychka and Welsh have scored in 15 of the 27 games, leading that stat. Matt Myers has 6 of his 15 points vs the Clan. Myers and JCB are the top point scorers in games where Jack Berry played, with 7 each. Top even strength player in the team are Welychka and Sorenson, with 17 (11+6 and 8+9 resepctively). Sorenson has scored 17 of his 18 points at even strength. Welychka leads the team with 7 PPPts, 4+3. Only Welychka has points against all 9 other EIHL teams so far. Matt Myers is an impressive 56.6% in the face off dot this season so far. Brady leads the team in SOGs, but has a low 6.52% conversion rate. Highest conversion rate is Welychka, 17.78% on 90 shots for 16 goals) JCB leads the team in shot attempts blocked by the opposition, with 44. Panthers have killed all 11 slashing penalties resulting in a PK, and 12 of 13 hooking penalties, however only 5 of 8 for high sticks. Panthers PK per period is 18/21, 27/32 and 31/41. So far this season, Panthers have spent over 37 more minutes killing penalties than on the PP. Games 14 through 18, Panthers did not concede a PPG, 19 through 23 they scored a PPG in every game.

PART 16: NOTESNoticing most positive is Panthers and negative Elite. + 1) First of all a remarkable change to the clubs culture. Endeavouring to make change and be more transparent, contactable and new ideas.
+ 2) Great to see the continued first League game remembrance of the fans we have lost in the last year. Particularly over the Summer period.
+ 3) Another good relationship idea with the fans. For those that could make it, a 'free to enter' training session to watch the players. Open to ALL.
+ 4) Though Elite tend to promise and not deliver, good to see the GRS being shown from Challenge games pre season. Thumbs up there. - Spoke too soon (and its not too soon to say this) it's been belatedly added to the report, perhaps I'm being a bit harsh but its always a rocky road. see 5 below a - Coventry GRS now missing also (as with a report of game) so the promise of GRS after all challenge games mis-fired.
- 5) A blip in GRS or is this going to be a regular thing? Pre season games. Sheffield away GRS. 6 errors, Nottm SOG 6 - Sheff SOG 9 in the player totals but apparently it was 10-10 in the Summary. One Penalty totally missing which lead to the 55.51 powerplay goal for Sheffield. Worst still was the fact of who scored eg) Hammond given two goals but he scored neither plus an assist missing.. I believe the much improved Panthers Twitter account got it all right. Well done to them. Only one oddity on our home sheet the day before which had a 2min penalty at 60.50 which started and ended at 60.00 - Similar with Coventry away game (sheet never uploaded) twelve errors, no assist noted for Brady on our last goal, two pims given to Dubeau at 5.17 that never happened, pen at 53.33 was team one not Johnston (he just sat it out), two pen omitted 2+2 and 5+20 to Dubeau, three SOG entries incorrect (when changed it adds up to players sog totals), Berry's saves missing as well as his actual being on ice in Goalie summary and Goalie changes.
+ 6) It continues www.panthers.co.uk/home/final-pandemic-makeup-game-confirmed doing the right things.
- 7) I put myself onto the clubs emailing/text list to receive news. How many text reminders of games coming up - in ONE day? relentless.. I'm taking myself off of it.
- 8) Just when you needed to get it right, you get it wrong. Elite OS 'depply' saddened by the queens death. Took two attempts to get it right but we got there in the end.
+ 9) As has been noted, a few little touches help. Improved score clock and the corridors of the inner part of the Arena painted to Panthers colours. A distinctive Gold on the walls.
-10) Power breaks for teams in games as 'a trial' but not all teams will have to play by them. Clubs can decline to use these. Another half baked rule by Elite.
+11) Marvellous presentation of the late Queen by the club, respected by all with video, two minutes silence and national anthem. Well done.
+12) SEPTEMBER and Matthew Myers reaches 400 points for the club and surpasses Chick Zamicks total of appearances going into 4th place overall. Mathieu Gagnon has now accumulated 150 pims in total all-time.
-13) Technical problems? Elite have Caruso/Sheldon/Bloor having played two games thus far when they have been either scratched/not benched twice. Do they read their own game sheets? Seems to be corrected - however, Dubeau's/Berry's league/Cup TOI rounded down (they don't do proper adding up). So net men will again have incorrect TOI once more this season it seems.
+14) Neil Black (owner of Glasgow, as well as Panthers) did the correct thing in suspending two officials from the Clan after poor management duties in hiring a player with (shall we say) dubious criminal history. Not what the sport needs though it has attracted national media coverage already.
-15) Officials bringing the game into disrepute due to recruitment of criminal offenders to Glasgow's team. Upsets fans who are horrified at lack of club (owner) responsive action. Club now in turmoil as sponsors withdraw partnerships.
-16) The OS gave a run down (in their news section) of the number of non homegrown players in sides and thus how many more they can sign. This included Sorenson and Puffer, however a pity that they are classed as homegrown elsewhere on the site.
+17) OCTOBER and in this month congratulations to J.C. BRASSARD getting his 50th point, Jeremy WELSH who achieved his 50th assist. As Matthew MYERS moves all-time into 17th place regards goals passing Gerry Watson and 9th place regards assists surpassing Ashley Tait and 11th regards Points passing Kenny Westman.
+18) NOVEMBER and in this month Mathieu GAGNON reaches 200pims in his Panthers career and his 100th game.
-19) Bought a ticket in advance of Myers testimonial and getting a celebratory puck at the same time. Picked it up at the arena and it as black coated on the top behind the design. However, they were selling a better looking one with a Gold backing. I asked to change this but the answer was no. Why? Only goes to show if you remain loyal and pre purchase it does you no good. Walk ups get the choice.
+20) DECEMBER Another landmark as Matthew Myers surpasses Dwayne Keward in all-time points into 10th best, 17 behind Ashley Tait now. Also achieves 650 games for the Panthers all-time.
-21) Can't understand the club celebrating 10 years since we won something (2013 league shirt revamp) as surely folks like Sheffield (won 3 league titles since then) would only mock us for it!
+22) Happy to see the 'wafer thin' Calendar (pre-order at end December?) on sale and have to say there is a good selection of items now though pricey in the shop. Have I missed the Annual though or has that been forgotten forever now? was something to collect over the years but since the last 'Quiz book! I've heard nothing myself.
-23) The post that isn't. www.eliteleague.co.uk/article/2801-top-saves-of-week-17 You will find it on 'youtube' And repeated the next time with the next attachment they did. Palm/Face.
-24) Elite exceed themselves with posts such as 'Regulation win secures Continental Cup for Devils' and again ahead of themselves 'during live play' updating a league table when a 0-0 score line has numbers that don't add up. You only have to undue stats when teams wins/losses/goals/points change in a flash.
-25) Elites league updated with a CUP result on the OS. taken down not long after (as do Panthers to revise) I had messaged the error on Twitter and FB. No contact made about it, got to believe they saw my posts..
+26) With just about two months to go in the season. Am impressed that the Elite have kept up with the stats this time round. statistics field on the OS up to date and correct along with the GRS and post game changes done quickly.
-27) Player stats totals on the back of T-shirts sold by the club with totals incorrect. The Official, Annuals and mine all tally.
-28) MAJOR Cup final....and no programme (so I am told).
-29) What's this thing with St. Patricks day - apart from the fact its my birthday - with now a warm up jersey specific to Ireland and us being an English team and St. Georges day not heralded at all?
-30) In short, the OS league table has Manchester below Nottingham yet Manchester as only qualifier to the play-offs
+31) In JANUARY Matt Myers moves into 16th place all time goals (145) and Jack Hopkins has his 50th game as Jeremy Welsh scores his 100th point. Jordan Kelsall plays his 200th game. FEBRUARY and Jordan Kelsall gets his 50th Pim. MARCH and JC Brassard has his 50th assist and pim. Tanner Sorenson 100 pims.
-32) Stats have improved from Elite this season but whereas goals/assists are scored - the GRS regularly shows that player NOT to have been on the ice?
+33) APRIL - Matthew Myers celebrates his 150th goal for Panthers.
-34) Club quotes Brady as ‘top goal scorer’ at the awards. However Welychka scored 5 more than him. Wrong player now in two consecutive seasons.-35) Disappointed at the Finals weekend as the programme format is the safe same again. I know also that the 'Elite Series' was not the Challenge Cup but was a CUP competition and was omitted in the Cup Competitions page (59) and why can’t we play the English National Anthem when we hear the likes of the Welsh and Scottish? And, .. Dundee and Fife play off jerseys page 67 - ! .
+36) End of season Elite statistics all add up and this is great. However missing n/m Pims totals AND having incorrect net minder TOI.
