This is why you need to be realistic with expectations, we've been lucky to still be in the Top Division and I've not really seen anything that changes my mind about our chances. Not sure we've been lucky, we've got the results we needed to squeak through the past couple of tournaments. I assume we all think the best we'll do is just end up the right side of the line. This year looks like it's not going to happen, can't see where the required result is coming from now.

Versus USA I’m glad the refs felt it needed to award us a power play when it was far too late. After Finland, a time to rest and recuperate. Much to fight for against Latvia but more importantly Austria if we are still in reach.

Another heavy, if expected, defeat. 6-0 against the Finns.

I think when you look at speed on the ice, and in the speed of thought, of the Finns and Swedes it shows how far we have to go to compete with the very top teams. But, the longer we can keep playing at the very top level, it might rub off on players like Waller, Neilson, Duggan & Tetlow and then the next batch, and you might see a change. It's a balance between encouraging the young Brits to move up, and making sure we get some experienced older players / dual nationals just to keep things steady. We've also really suffered this year being without Kirk, Hammond and Connolly. Despite the results, we are competing.

Whatever happens tonight between Latvia and Austria , it tells us who we have to beat. Or it’s curtains. Drawn.

Well, it's Austria, they lost in a shootout against Latvia. We play Latvia tomorrow, IF, and that's a big If, we manage to somehow beat Latvia in regulation we go level on points with Austria.
We then play Austria in our last game in a Winner takes all match.
Can we do it, I don't think so, both nations play a higher standard of hockey than we do so it'll be a tough couple of nights ahead.

I think beating Austria will be enough. Tied points and a win between tied teams. We have to just do it of course.

GB showing some fighting spirit, 2-0 up. I prefer being modest when it comes to our chances, that way, IF we fail then I won't be as disappointed as I normally would.
IF we stay up then it'll be a massive achievement and something that the boys should be given credit for.

It's a great start against a nation ranked 7 places above us internationally. If we can do this week definitely make the Austria game fun
Congratulations to Cade Neilson for his first international senior goal

3-3 must keep out the box. I’m willing this clock down, but still to play for.

Ahh blast, however the more we can contest against these teams it bodes well. This game lost over things we need to iron out then we can listen to our nations anthem more. Best of luck tomorrow lads.

Guess if we win the last game against Austria we still stay up on the head to head as we'd both end tied on 4pts?
But would have been nice to get a win under the belt before that to give them some confidence. But at least we're scoring again

Trouble is when we went ahead they stopped doing what got them into the lead, we sat back and tried to play smart. Plus lack of discipline cost us.

Nothing to do with a rebound king between the pipes imitating either the butterfly or backstroke half the time ? Gotta love those juicy rebounds.

No. It's a team. They win as a team and lose as a team. You can't blame one player. Where were the dmen, supposed to clear the crease or tie up the opposition forwards from getting the rebounds, where were the forecheckers.
