Personally don't think Belfast, Cardiff or Sheffield would go after Gagnon and if we sign Hunt then I don't really know what Gagnon brings Disagree,I think Sheffield or Belfast would take him if I meant him being on the 3rd pairing. Cardiff already have simular in Mark Louis! Maybe a few years ago they would have but the league has changed since then. I personally don't think Sheffield or Belfast were bullied at all last year and Dowd lead the Steelers in fighting majors with 3 and Giants didn't have any players with more than 1

It’s not necessarily all about fighting though. Occasionally skill isn’t enough to win you games, so you need another option to utilise to change the tide.
The amount of times last year I said “isn’t anybody going to do ANYTHING” when we were 5-1 down at home. This is really when you need players like hunt/gagnon to upset a few people, try and draw some penalties and ensure nobody comes into our building and gets an easy win.
As has already been mentioned, the fighting every game has gone, but having a few players to intimidate and ruffle a few feathers not only can swing a game, but also gets the crowd into it, something we did Absolutly nothing of last year.

I think it’s good to have more than one person who can mix it up. Hunt and Gagnon are two completely different players, I could see Hunt playing in a similar way to Janssen, forechecking hard and finishing all his checks, playing in the bottom 6. Gagnon is more of a deterrent I think though, he’s physical and would protect the goalie well. Get them both in I say.

Ideally you have a rink rat who ruffles the feathers of the oppo with energy, checks & some underhand stuff & then you have the deterrent who protects your skill players.

No, we definitely need to be tougher on the back end and have more of a physical presence in attack. My point is the teams we're chasing have that but from a higher standard of player.

How do you know the likes of hunt isn't a decent standard anyway My point was about Gagnon, I think Hunt would be a good pickup. From what I've seen I'd say Mikkelson, Louis, Reinhart and Ellerby play a similar role to Gagnon but are better players overall.

The key here could also be where we go with that last outskating Brit slot.
If it's a forward we would have no Brit Dman at all. That means Gagnon would be a huge upgrade on Tetlow. He's a better Dman than Josh Batch and not much between him and Louis. I'd argue he is at least better than Sam Jones, probably Davey Philips and perhaps even 1 of Steelers import D last year.
Giants, maybe not, but just purely looking at Dmen overall Id have him on my team over Garside.
So for me he would get in those teams purely based on overall package regardless of passport. Our Brit make up probably allows us to compare that way. If we'd signed Tetlow and Steve Lee then we probably wouldn't be able to find a spot for him.

Puffer looks interesting, led a good team on +/-, putting up decent points, especially in the playoffs.

There would be absolutely no complaints from me if this rumour (from the reliable EIHL Rumours Twitter account) turned out to be true.

Cody Sol to Panthers…Glasgow completed their D this week. Not sure how I feel about this. He did have 5 straight seasons with Graham so there could be some truth to the rumour

AHL regular dman and only 23, I’d take him! Where’s this rumour come from?

AHL regular dman and only 23, I’d take him! Where’s this rumour come from? Presumably the fact he's suddenly become available. But given that that's only because he was a restricted free agent and didn't receive a qualifying offer from Winnipeg in the past 24hrs I'd say it's a bit of a stretch to go from no longer being on an NHL contract to a rumoured signing for us. Guessing it was more of an 'if only/what if' speculative type post about someone who's now available rather than a rumour. Not saying that we haven't signed young decent AHLers before but not exactly a whole bunch coming straight off NHL free agency. And not when they've only just found out themselves. But, who knows, maybe NB really had found his piggy bank...?

Rather worryingly the *other* Mathieu Gagnon defenseman (playing out of the French 2 tier) has been confirmed as being on the move today.
It's it going to be a case of right name wrong face? 😳😳😳
