It was Gary's funeral yesterday, I find it a little sad that the club didn't put up anything on either the site, or Twitter at least to acknowledge it and say a final farewell. Whatever he did to upset people he was Panthers through and through and put more than any of us would know into the running of the club. It’s very disappointing that nothing was put out by at least the club. I’m worried about the state of the club at the minute, there seems to be no sense of direction, both on and off the ice. That's because there isn't !

Whatever he did to upset people he was Panthers through and through and put more than any of us would know into the running of the club. Not particularly surprising, I'm afraid. Considering the amount of time he was with the club their recognition of his death was woeful. Didn't even get a proper obituary on the OS. I'd say other clubs did him more proud than we did. Indeed. Just about the only tribute Panthers paid was that he increased crowds. Pretty typical really eluding to that when there is so much else the club could have said. With regards to GM’s funeral I’d be pretty certain he would not want the average fan turning up so it was kept quiet at the family’s request.

Indeed a poor show - or non show in mentioning something. Yes, it may have been at the families request not to say when or where a funeral would take place but the club does not have to give this information. Even a 'Funeral HAS happened for the long serving GM' etc...hey, maybe it will be documented somewhere. But at least if his family did see these comments or hear of them it would at least be known that whatever critic he had or of those here who disagreed with most he did. He was a thorn in Sheffield's side when needed and Mr. Blacks main man in the club, but what from Mr. Black?
His successors have a chance to do something here.

I’ve messaged the club and Dan Kerry. Will keep you posted on a response. Shame we’ve heard this news via Simms

All going to pot....noticed the e-programme on the OS has not been done since 28th November. Approximately 9 have been done with some 12 not? This is us all over AND the Elite too, start something, go all hype on it then nothing. What a way to go on. GM already being missed at Black Towers.

And, of course, Simms turns up to the funeral in an orange tie! Is it just me or do others think that was disrespectful?

To play safe I’d have worn Black , also a Panthers colour but I think he’s playing the rivalry card but (even at this late stage) , ironically as a gesture I think. Both had good banters all the way through.

Tbh I can imagine Gary would've worn a black & gold one if roles were reversed. A last little act of their long rivalry.
Turning up for the funeral in the first place shows his respect for him.

Gary would have been disappointed if Simms hadn't turned up without wearing something relating to Sheffield. Simms wearing an orange tie is not disrespectful in the slightest. They were rivals and both enjoyed the rivalry. They were also friends.

Only Gary and David will know if this was respectful. We all think David is a bit of a (insert insult). Funerals are a different thing. David Simms is an intelligent man, if he thought wearing an orange tie was wrong, I doubt very much he would have worn one
