two days before the start of the season, and there have been no posts on The Cage for over 24 hours. is there nothing to talk about ? Very quiet on the final import front isn't it.. Waiting for training camp cuts, clearly. Probably.

I think I said this elsewhere that actually our signings once the season had started last time around (Hansen, Talbot) were much better than some of our signings in pre-season, so maybe there is hope yet. With the Challenge Cup fixtures dominating the early season, we could plausible have someone in by the time we get into that little run of league games in October against Cardiff, Guildford, Belfast and then Cardiff again in a ten day stretch.

I think it entirely depends upon results up until that point

It's an easy scenario to envisage. GD talks to a player, who says he'd love to, but wants a crack at an AHL camp. GD agrees, they keep in touch. Player gets cut from the AHL camp, doesn't fancy a year in the ECHL, gets in touch, Robert belongs to your female parent's male sibling. A player who wasn't available in the summer now is.

Or the scenario could be... Neil Black says to GD we’re going with 13 imports this year because I’m tightening the purse strings. Things don’t go well the first twenty games and crowds drop watching a losing team. Mr Black then says to GD hey we better do something about these dropping crowds my profits are suffering so here’s another £500 a week to spend. Now go try get a cheap college kid but if you can’t get one of those then an ex ECHLer will do or at a push see if you can get an ex NHLer who wants a last hurrah and a cushy little holiday.

As another alternative theory, I heard via an ex work colleague in USA that we had signed an ECHL player from Florida, but he hadn't yet had his second Covid jab yet, so wasn't yet eligible. He still hasn't signed elsewhere, so is this why we are waiting?

You could get the prize for detective work of the season if right.

Anyway, I'm not claiming any ITK status, as that's always been Jord's remit, and this one is a one-off and should really be in the rumours section. The name was Alex Kile, but I haven't heard any more since the end of August. If it is correct, I was just saying that players have to be double vaccinated to play in EIHL (not sure about entry into UK), so maybe why we have a space available still.

Basically Doucet has decided to handicap his team until it's too late From the preseason video interview with Wallace that appeared on the EIHL website a few days ago it seems clear that Deuce and Wallace were both surprised by how many careers the pandemic had ended early: players they expected to be available retiring/or having missed to much time. Wallace references the good players being snapped up very early in the off season. Thus, if another is coming, made it sound like they're not opting for a warm body to take the final slot, but holding out for someone actually worth having, especially with the limited number of changes allowed prioritising getting it right from the start. Whether you agree with the strategy or not that's the impression I got. You can definitely hear genuine surprise in Wallace as to how much smaller the pool of players was this year

Honestly, if you are correct I think you can have Jord's title after the big AHL winger debacle.

If it is Alex Kile, there’s not a lot wrong with his cv.

There's a webcast for this one, 15 quid again. Given this won't be a sell out, have we finally entered the 21st century?

We'll get these annoucements the day before a game with the view that they want to sell as many tickets as possible. There will be no statement of webcasts being a permenant fixture until about 4 weeks after fans have already worked it out.
