At present Kelsall is not good enough for a top 4 eihl roster...that's not to say he won't be in the future Difficult to see how he improves riding the bench though? My enthusiasm for bringing on young players has waned over the years. They get ice time and get better and then they just move on to other teams or become policemen or pilots. Just build a strong team and start winning things with the best squad available. I really don't see the EIHL as a school anymore with 3 lines and limited benches.

Just had a quick look on EP at the league points. Not unhappy with the signing, but seems to me like a typical Panthers “He’s a nice bloke “ (which he is) signing, rather than “He’s what we need”. Maybe there’s a reason no-one else seemingly offered him a deal. Or maybe they did but there was a BOC style difference of opinion as to values? Very happy to be proved wrong. No he's been signed because GUI knows what he'll get from him Fair enough then. Your U and I keys are stuck on caps, BTW.

I think we need to manage some expectations here. Doucet and Wallace have always built teams their own way. They go for round pegs in round holes. As evidenced during the back end of the last regular season and the elite series, they can build teams that on paper don’t look as goal heavy. But once they buy into Wallace’s systems, they find ways to win. I’m not saying it’s going to work everytime and I certainly think Belfast, Cardiff and Steelers have the better resumes but we’ve seen Panthers teams with those before. It comes down to coaching and willingness to win. Myers made it very clear he’s here to win and with the experience of him and Matheson, another born winner, they can help keep the team honest in a quest for trophies. I don’t feel cheated by our roster because we know as a club, we’ve never been afraid to make changes if it isn’t working. Exactly. Tim and GUI do seem to stick to a plan. This roster has goals it (and that's before the final import) it's a good age as well but has experience as well. It’s a good signing and Myers game isn’t about points it’s about hard work, going to tough areas and face off winning ability. I just cannot see why for an extra few grand, pocket money to Panthers in the grand scheme of things you would run an import short of what you could have. Wait until injuries and/or Covid protocol kicks in,because it will, some teams are going to regret this 19 man roster change.

I'm split on this one.
I'm happy to see Matty back in black and gold, he's the kind of player and the kind of character that you need to build a winning team. That he was still looking for a club and was happy to come back made it a no-brainer to get him on board.
I'm happy to trust that Doucet and Wallace are trying to build a team a certain way, we've seen in the past rosters that haven't come close to being the sum of their parts, it's one of our biggest failings over recent seasons, but I do not understand why you would handicap yourselves before the puck is even dropped by not having a full quota of imports available to you.
With the facilities and the finance behind us, there is no way the Nottingham Panthers should be an import short, we can't be casting ourselves as plucky underdogs to the might of Cardiff, Sheffield and Belfast, that's not acceptable to me.
Is the limit on TOTAL imports over the course of the season a concern to us?
I'm sure Tim and Gui would be the first to admit that they got things wrong with the starting roster in 2019/20, and we moved Jens Jakobs and William Quist on within 20 games, as well as losing Alexis Loiseau early on when he elected to retire. In fact, our later signings, the likes of Julian Talbot and Jake Hansen in particular, improved us hugely. Are we trying to keep some powder dry and see where we might need to improve?
It's a strange one, I doubt that Perlini+import and Myers+import come out at the same amount, so where has the extra cash that might have been being put aside for a top-end Brit gone?

For me this shows why we haven’t won the league in 9 years.

2 words..... budget cap!! That is in place this season..... We can only make assumptions about budgets based on CV experience, but looking at Sheffield’s and Belfast’s team they look a lot more expensive than ours.

"New to the league" imports (not counting imports new in the "Series") have come from/last played in Giants DEL 1 SHL 1 Denmark 1 Slovakia 1 ECHL 3 College 2 (but 1 of those has played pro previously in ECHL/AHL) Steelers DEL 2 Hungary 2 Norway 1 Slovakia 1 ICEHL 1 Czech 1 Panthers Liiga 1 Poland 2 Italy/Alps 1 ECHL 3 College 2 Panthers look a bit thin if you look at the above. Steelers have 4 new players from leagues I think are above EIHL level, thus will likely be also so in wage demands? Panthers only 1. Giants only have 2, but their ECHL guys are impressive and they have Conway too. Is this wage cap thing being audited at all?

2 words..... budget cap!! That is in place this season..... Wage caps are a load of nonsense, there are loads of ways around it if you want to break it. As I see it,some teams will ignore it and others just use it and Covid as an excuse for a cheap season. The EIHL is like a bloody Mars bar,the cost stays the same or goes up but the size and value for money comes down.

I do and they are so much smaller, but I wouldn’t pay £17 to look at one.

I've always thought Neil Black tries to keep our budget down and is tight with his cash. Not acceptable for a club of our size and popularity.

And that's a great shame. At 22, if he's got the EIHL in him (and I think he has) he needs to be logging minutes, not riding pine. Myers at 36 is the 4th line centre, whoever said he's got 30 points in him is delusional. Not since 2013 has that happened. Get him screening the net on the PP and the odd shift to keep him warm. Strange signing. OOAA. Sorry to bump this back up but with Matthew getting past the 30pt barrier with games to spare, it shows the talent is still there and he was underrated coming into this season.

To be fair, his points output this year is already above anything in his last 8 seasons, and surpasses anything he did at Cardiff since 2013, his last season with Panthers. Panthers' masterstroke has been to give him significant PP time, resulting in 5+5 on the PP so far this year, third best on the team, behind only Boivin and Welsh. Going back to my original post, I predicted he'd be useful screening the net on the PP, whilst pointing out he'd not got 30 points since 2013. Finally, of course, and as ever, I pointed out that OOAA. For balance, he's a team-second worst -10 (at game 43) by my stats but is useful (if not exactly dominant) in the face off dot at 52ish% for the year so far. It's OK to get stuff "wrong" sometimes. It's just a bit of fun. Embrace it.
