That I am impressed with. We should get a few seasons out of him, giving continuity and he will want to stay with the Loughborough University study angle. Got to give the hierarchy credit here.

My opinion might not be popular but I’m not overly excited by it. Seems like his numbers have tailed off a bit and I don’t tend to agree with giving the uni deals to older players on the decline. He will of course get all my support though and hope my doubts are unfounded

This guy looks a very good signing, if Douc thinks he is the business that’s good enough for me. Hopefully he will be the business for Panthers, we need a great season for us all, it’s been too long without one.

Asuming he is fully fit and coming to give it his all then this is a very good signing.
Comparing players is always dangerous, but this guy appears to have been a role player through his AHL career in particular. A few more teams and a few years older, but we have recent history with a guy whos stats wernt azing in the AHL.
Sam Herr AHL 4 seasons 193 games 23 goals 18 assists 0.21ppg
Welsh AHL 4 seasons 267 games 56 goals 54 assists 0.41 ppg
Welsh has some NHL experience and covid aside comes straight from the DHL. I'm backing him to do big things for Panthers this season.

He looks ok. I think a Herr comparison is a bit iffy, I know it's not given as gospel or anything, but he was a bit of a one off in terms of imports. We get very few like him turning up, whatever their stats happen to suggest before they get here.
I tend to agree with Lee with regard to the uni deals too, I'd rather they were given as reward for a good first season, say, rather than to attract a player and then be tied to them for 2 (presumably?).
But, good luck to him, will hope for the best and that this time next year we're glad he's already signed for the next season.

University deals always have a slight down side. It adds a lot to the value for the player, but study time and ice practice time conflict. However it worked for Belfast with Sandrock so hopefully for us. Ducet thinks the attitude is right so hopefully for us

Looks a classic Panthers 'one last hurrah' type signing to me.

30 odd, coming down the leagues, lately of the DEL, little bit of NHL, on a uni deal. Where have we seen that before? Very average league stats last year, but it all seemed to click in the playoffs, the opposite story to a certain Darcy Murphy at the same team. And he was a decent player…
Looking forward to seeing him play. Hell I’m looking forward to seeing anyone playing live…

Looks a cracking signing. Only the age would be a issue but that's more like it . Iginla....

These on the down type players are always really difficult to predict. We've certainly had our fair share who have under delivered for sure. He will hopefully turn up and produce the goods. Perhaps he wont look spectacular, but I rekon he'll be one of those that does the simple things really well and his points will rack up quietly.

From listening to the interview with GM and Doucet, this appears to be the Talbot-esque signing. He probably won’t be a point a game but he’ll win you face offs and do a lot of the little things. If he can contribute like Talbot did, I’ll be happy.
I understand the trepidation with signings like this as well. I really hope the right attitude is there.

Like the way Panthers getting their roster together early doors - might even have them all here in time 😳😳

After looking at his stats I’m hopeful that we’ve picked up a good player in Welsh. His 20/21 regular season stats with Poland aren’t impressive but he did seem to pick it up during his teams playoff run. Hopefully 20/21 proves to be an anomaly for him and he comes in and does the business for us. If we’d sign him for the latest Elite Series after he’d played a full season in the DEL, and he’d never been to Poland, then I think we’d all be happy with him signing.

Yeah I’m happy with this, looks a good addition and I’m cautiously optimistic about our chances for the season. Obviously hinges on some big pieces of the jigsaw still to be added, but the signs are promising. Hope we nail these final signings!

Perhaps a bit of a slow start in Poland but he was 7th in scoring in the playoffs so maybe it just took him a little while to get his legs going again. The majority of players who went back to Canada at the beginning of the pandemic weren't even able to skate for a long period of time so hopefully it's down to that. Good size, solid numbers wherever he has played. You don't play over 250 AHL games without being a decent player. Looking forward to seeing him on the ice.

Maybe I'm being unnecessarily cautious? I hope to find out fairly soon. His numbers aren't dissimilar I suppose. From what I can remember Rheault started okay but never seemed to regain his form after picking up an injury during that first season. That's the risk with a two-year deal, we haven't had much luck with them recently, Michael Garnett didn't live up to expectations either, we didn't see enough CHL Garnett during his time in Nottingham.

Maybe I'm being unnecessarily cautious? I hope to find out fairly soon. I’m praying we don’t get another situation like we had with Rheault. The one thing that I don’t think did Jon any favours was he seemed to be quite injury prone when he was with us, I think that had a big impact on his style of play and ultimately he underperformed. Looking at Welsh, he seems to have been healthy throughout his career and hopefully he remains to be whilst with us. Comparing his career to Rheault they are near enough the same in terms of leagues they’ve played in and points output. One big difference for me though is that Welsh is a centreman and Rheault was a winger. If Welsh is a decent face off winner and is reliable up and down the ice then hopefully he will be successful for us. I suspect he will he either be 2nd or 3rd line centre, which I am happy with.
