Devils sign 33yr old D Man Brendan Mikkelson, 6ft2in Brendan has played 131 games in the NHL for Anneheim, Calgary, Tampa and last season played for MODO Ornskoldsvik in SWE -1. Looks a very good signing.

Whilst I place less and less on "CV and experience" these days, and more on "how did you do last season and in what league", I'm generally more positive towards this kind of signing as a D man than a forward. I'd expect him to be more than capable at the EIHL level.

Looks ok, we've seen this sort of pedigree-CV signing a lot over the years, they rarely stand out.

He’ll be a solid player for the Devils, DEL champion in 2019 as well. I’d be happy if we signed him!

Like many many players that age with that CV who arrive on these shores.. there's a reason he's coming here ....

I wouldn't be unhappy if we signed him, but his career is clearly on the wind down. Last two seasons were in leagues much more of an EIHL level.

Well he ain’t coming here if he is still NHL standard DUH, what a stupid statement to make. We have lost a great player in Cardiff in Joey Martin who certainly was a one off, but the club comes back with this news, that’s what good clubs do they try their best to turn negatives into positives, different position, different player but a moral booster. We have also had news that our season ticket sales are the highest ever, so hopefully we again can compete with the big 3. Thanks for the positivity Iginla.

This guy is 8 or 9 years removed.

Most club's respond from bad news to good news.. it's nothing new .. Cardiff ain't a one of even if you think you are lol. Like yotes said he's on the wind down .. so he'll retire in this league .. pretty standard tbh.

Not as if he’s been playing in the backwaters though is it, several seasons in the SHL, then DEL then Salzburg. I’ll take that in a 33 year old Dman any day over a Talbot Tassi. Ex NHL Dmen generally do fine in the EIHL because what they’ve lost in pace they make up for with their positioning sense. It’s usually ex NHL forwards who don’t live up to their hype over here.

I'd be happy bringing back DTT .. was impressed with him but don't go comparing this guy to him. BM will want big minutes and be a first pairing d man probably with Richardson. He'll be decent but that's it.
I'd rather bring over a current AHLer who's around 27 personally. Who is looking to get a move to a top euro league . Talbot Tassi has proved to be a potentially decent addition to the blue line
Noticed on his scouting report "he's a big body but doesn't use his size" there's nothing worse that a big physical d men not playing to his strengths

My thoughts pretty much exactly, see above. I’ll be surprised if this guy isn’t one of the premier d men in the league come next March.

How about a side bet between your good self and me mate, if the guy is a very good signing you buy me and my wife a evening meal at Piccolinos, if he fails those heights the meals are on me, unless you never go out that is.

Not as if he’s been playing in the backwaters though is it, several seasons in the SHL, then DEL then Salzburg. Not backwaters no, he's reached them now, but there's a clear trend in terms of the level he's playing at. I'm sure he'll do ok, if he doesn't do a Parisi, but I'm not expecting lights out.

He'll be solid without being spectacular. Like yotes said if he was still lights out his previous club wouldn't have released him anyway . If he was still special Manheim would have kept him and so on .

Should add a bit of spice to our complete differences of opinions. I will go for Pasta at Piccolinoes and not steak, but the wife will choose fillet steak thank you.

Cardiff are just warming up with this signing as well. There's some pretty amusing stuff on the way.

Let them crack on 😂 These owners have no regard for keeping the league competitive then .. one thing is their coach has a lot of pressure to deliver instantly....

I imagine Sheff will have a go, they were in the same ballpark two yrs ago. Cardiff's owners want to win, they like winning. If this means outspending the rest of the league then so be it from their point of view.

So if, and it is a if our owners take very little out of the club, but decide to plough most of it back into the club is that also wrong, just wondering what’s your take on that.
