Is there any truth in the rumour O'connor may be coming to the Panthers ? Not sure what I feel about that ........

With Lee and Tetlow already signed, I can't see Panthers signing another Brit dman. Unless the plan is for him to play as a forward, which he does most of the time anyway !

I think O'Connor would work well with our style. Wallace seems determined to let his D-men roam with forwards seamlessly slotting into the vacated position.
However, I think that Lee and Tetlow makes it less likely. I don't think we're likely to sign a 3rd Senior Brit defender unless there is a reduction in import levels coming.

None of us know the import limits for the season, and, if its dropping like we expect, then Brits will be at a premium, and Ben is top drawer. We'll never get Matthew back so if its true then I'll happily take him. Great player

I don’t know what he’s on now or what he would want. But a couple of years ago a Panthers Brit told me O’Connor was on £1500 a week at Sheffield. That would have to make him one of the very top earners in the EIHL and quite likely the top earner. Very few imports in the EIHL would even be on £1000 a week. |

I just told you why Fox let O’connor go, same reason as Whistle and Matheson,they were all told they had to take pay cuts and wouldn’t so they all ended up leaving the Steelers. |

Where has this O'Connor rumour actually come from? It's quite old now and I believe it first surfaced at a similar time last year. So the initial rumour was before the 2020/2021 season got cancelled. I'm 90% sure it was made public that he wouldn't be back in Sheffield, then some ITKs on here suggested it. |

He wants to play in the EIHL but he and Sheffield both seem to suggest it won't be for them. He has a family and work commitments so it would help if there was less travelling involved. So the best fit would be Manchester, or Nottingham. Unless we get to August and Sheffield/Ben kiss and make up. But if he wants to go down a step he could join Dave Whistle at Leeds. Fox wouldn’t pay the daft Brit money, O’Connor wouldn’t take the wage cut deal,so they parted company. Well I never ! |
