I still have little clue as to who is on Panthers’ roster, but to win the completion is nice all the same.

Victory.... Not bad for a sham & unlevel playing field.
Top job Panthers.

Well done Panthers.
And well done EIHL for getting the series completed without hitch, sets up GB as best as possible and hopefully we'll see the league back proper in the autumn.

Big well done to the organisation. It will never be as much as a league title or maybe even a challenge cup, but watch those celebrations and tell me those players weren't busting a gut to get over that line. It may not be recorded as a massive title, but it clearly mattered to those involved.
Biggest shoutout has to be Wallace. He took the best defence in the tournament and turned it to 11 , restricting the free scoring Steelers and Blaze. He got the Panthers to strangle the life out of opposition offences for huge portions of the games, and the forwards repaid him with goals when we needed them.

The D were excellent and just how many minutes did Matheson play over the last two days. Very special.

In case anyone missed it, here's what Chamberlain was shouting up to the commentary team when he had the cup...
EDIT: If you don't turn up the volume enough, he shouts "Where's Simmsey?"

Panthers were simply outstanding in the play-off series. Great team effort and really tightened up defensively.
Obviously, the first priority was competitive ice time for GB players, but to go and win it, especially against the Sheffield Steelers, is a very nice bonus.

Nothing sweeter than having one over Sheffield.

Seemed to turn up when it mattered . Right at the start I thought panthers signed the best imports .. it was the retained list which was going to handicap them but they broke out it seemed.
It may have been a warm up tournament but this will have hurt sheffield even though they won't admit to it

Thank you to the EIHL and Ice Hockey Uk for having the vision to put the event on. Sport England for supporting the event, the Arena, The City Council, the other three teams and their organizations. Gui, Tim, the rest of the backroom staff, and finally the players, many of whom could simply have sat on their backsides or gone back to North America when their previous contracts ended, but chose to risk their health to play in a competition, the winning of which most will never receive the accolades and credit they deserve.

I'd expect Gui to try and sign Domingue, Boivin and Talbot Tassi to new deals now..

Whilst other known posters on other forums write us off with their useless opinions the Panthers arrive late & take home the trophy.
Seems the goalie rotation worked perfectly as well, very brave more by Gui to trade up & role with the Brit one-two combo but it came good.

Unless the master plan WAS to trade Whistle as has been strongly rumoured, then it would have been a very poor move. Good job none of the other teams wanted Whistle eh !

I can guarantee you the one-two was the idea from the off, due to the number of games they wanted a known strong goalie set up.

Sentence two: Asserts an "alternate fact" as their own new rumour, but uses it as a "proof" that make the previous sentence now suddenly fact. Thinking: shift concept of previous conspiracy (rigged Series that Nottingham could never win) to new conspiracy (that they win by accident due to incompetence in drafting). Thereby moving from Panthers can't win to suggesting they didn't really win Are we *sure* iginla isn't actually Donald Trump looking for a new project?? Just saying

Perhaps the use of a question mark rather than an exclamation mark after your suggestion/assertion then? That would illustrate that you're simply making another suggestion. At very least an exclamation mark does rather put it into the realm of declamatory statement. At worst, it comes across as statement of fact. And that was the grey area I was referring to with the Donald Trump analogy. Sorry, I guess that's a harsh comparison for anyone. I'm always happy to address the post rather than the poster (avoiding suggesting the poster can't read would be an example, especially if you misread assert for insert in their own post) and no offence was meant but confess your posts do rather come across at times as the goalposts constantly moving for you as to what Panthers or EIHL have to do. With the major criteria being that someone must have failed or fiddled things. But we're all different in that way I guess But, as always, JMHO

I said on draft night that picking bowns was a master stroke to play alongside whistle.. bowns had he gone to any of the other sides would have been over played I'm sure of it. Bowns needs easing back in after his injury .
It also allowed wallace to bring in and potentially scout some young import forwards which I hope he follows up with Domkngue and Boivin..
I was staggered when I heard certain well known panthers fans and of doffern teams be perplexed why panthers did what they did. To me it made perfect sense and they weren't being selfish as some alluded to either

Now that it's all done and dusted... thoughts on this tournament:-
- the overall idea and format were less than perfect - only 4 teams for a start - but for once we can't blame the EIHL for all of that. Bloody stupid politics and 'devolution' played a big part. It would have been so much better with more teams...
- having said that, the EIHL most certainly can be blamed for some things. The cockerel-up on the first weekend where they obviously didn't invest anywhere near enough into the provision for people to actually be able to connect and watch it properly (you'd have though that would be basic, but this is the Elite League we're talking about...) was appalling. The quality of feed wasn't great for large parts of the rest of it either.
- what an absolutely abysmal start for the Panthers. No two ways about it, the team as a whole was dire. The defence was (at best) poor, the offence was much worse. And Bowns started off badly - if he truly was ill and hadn't said anything... bad move on his part. It has to be said, though... he got no help from the outskaters. It truly was painful to watch...
- this tournament was touted as being in large part a warm-up for the GB team. For once, the PR wasn't total poo poo. This series not only gave the Brits most likely to be picked a good run-out, but also showcased some who hadn't previously registered much on the radar... including a few unexpected cases:- Ciaran Long, Josh Tetlow (SO much improved!), Sam Jones (about whom I knew absolutely nothing), Lewis Hook, A special mention has to be made for Ben Churchfield. Chucked in the deep end with Muse getting injured early doors, he more than held his own. He's a not a starter yet at EIHL level, he's not there yet... but this tournament has to have given him the confidence to go out there and work his way up. And here's a thought... in the two-game final, the Panthers put 4 goals past Muse both nights. Would they have done the same to Churchfield? We'll never know, but it's got to be a thought in the back of the mind.
- for the Panthers, I so wish that we could keep Austin Cangelosi. Absolute star... not just scoring, but his speed and stick-handling were superior, and his faceoff-winning was a key element. But he's already signed elsewhere. Still... the likes of Boivin, Domingue, Talbot-Tassi etc have got to be on our re-upping radar.
- also for the Panthers... the line that impressed me the most was the Lachowicz/ Betteridge/Hook line. Not only did they utterly disrupt opposition game-plans for fun, but they contributed offensively at key points. And their workrate was just incredible.
- my vote for 'most improved player' has to go to Josh Tetlow. He was showing signs of promise before, but was only living up to it in patches. Not any more... so much more confident and assured out there, and his effectiveness showed it. Nice to see him get a tasty goal as well. First GB senior call-up... I'd lay money he's going to be a fixture on the team for some time to come.
- the Panthers netminders. So many people overreacting in the short term, claiming that Bowns is 'rubbish' and that Whistle is 'clearly' the better goalie. What a load of absolute crap. Whistle is getting better and better, no question - but he still doesn't have the experience and skills of Bowns... not yet, anyway. Bowns had a 'bad day', Whistle had a good one... but I've seen Bowns pull off miracles time and time again in recent years, and despite the fact he's definitely on the up, Whistle still has a way to go to match him. Would love to see those two as #1 & #2 in Panthers jerseys for a full season, but let's be realistic... we're very unlikely to be able to keep Bowns. Europe calls, and in the UK? - Cardiff have to be his first choice. Pity, but that's life. But - SIGN UP WHISTLE!!!
- for other teams... Keck. Most impressive newcomer import, no question. That guy is scary. There's going to be a queue for his signature.
- also scary - or at least getting there? Liam Kirk. Fantastic news for the GB team, and as a Panthers fan I have to be happy that he's most likely to be spending the next few years (at least) over in North America... and not in Sheffield. Would not like to be having him line up against us often.
- Tim Wallace. What can you say? Calls for his head coming in from the usual short-term thinkers (if 'thinker' is even the right word)... but he got the job done, simple as. How much of the recruitment was down to him and how much to Doucet, I have no idea... but seeing as he got the criticisms for the early poor showing, he should equally get the credit for the later improvement and eventual win.
- overall? Sitting in my lounge watching hockey on TV isn't 'real' hockey, not in my book. And this wasn't even a 'proper' tournament. But... under the circumstances, it was about as close as we were likely to get. It could have been so much worse...
