He went about his business quietly never got tne headlines others did but proved throughout the season of being a big game player I'd argue without the star names around him he would have been a passenger. Just an average Panthers import whose stats were massaged a tad by the incredible Mr Ling.

Just an average Panthers import whose stats were massaged a tad by the incredible Mr Ling. Strange view, he was a point-per-game player for Panthers. If he was Ling dependant, how many of Galivan's points featured a point for Ling too, then? I'd wager not that many. IIRC, they played on largely different lines all season. I'd argue Bruce Graham was the main benefactor of Ling, his stats in spell 2 (sans Ling) were nowhere near as good as spell 1 (with Ling). He looked half the player to me.

But, as you say, even on a very special team, you still have to have your solid, quiet but effective, do it all under the radar, not flashy, second liners. Was Johnny on the spot to win the league title (a proper sniper's goal too) so I can forgive him a lot.

Another of the forwards we would have long forgotten. Nice snipe though, lovely goal that meant rather a lot.

Watched this one from the NIC upstairs room. It would have been better if it were an 'I was there' game of course but by then I was reducing my travels, Northern Ireland especially.

Galivan's points were 24+35=59. Of those, Linger assisted two of Gally's goals, Pat assisted on 1 goal of Ling's. They both had assists on 4 goals scored by other. Doesn't prove much. Says to me that he was a good line player, could fit in anywhere, had a decent turn of speed and knew where the net was. I was glad we had him and disappointed he didnt return, choosing to retire. I believe he works as a performance coach in the Chicago area.

He did his job very nicely.

Good to watch the game again, seen the goals many times but not the actual game. We had the upper hand for the most part but kept letting them back in to the game. Belfast didnt have a strong side that year.

Going into that weekend Belfast were still very much in the title hunt. It was basically a 2 horse race and 2 victories for them would have made it a whole lot tougher for us. Dont forget we only beat them in OT in the playoff final too

They may have been our closest rivals but there really was a big gulf between the two teams ! How big? League table, conf. table, play off finals & the 4-4 split in league games suggests they were rather good to me. I don't recall much about them tbh, but then again I was drunk on love/lust for the Fox family at the time.

There were only two teams in it that year,it was a two team league. Steelers and Cardiff were both still recovering from the Regan/Phillips debacle years and all the other teams were just the usual no chance also rans. Good job it was only a two horse race really or we’d still be hearing those zero league title taunts.
