Just to try and lighten this discussion, I thought I had better introduce this.....
UK SARS-Coronavirus Virus ALERT
The English are feeling the pinch in relation to the recent virus threat and have therefore raised their threat level from “Miffed” to “Peeved.” Soon, though, the level may be raised yet again to “Irritated” or even “A Bit Cross.”
The English have not been “A Bit Cross” since the blitz in 1940 when tea supplies nearly ran out.
The virus has been re-categorised from “Tiresome” to “A Bloody Nuisance.” The last time the British issued a “Bloody Nuisance” warning level was in 1588, when threatened by the Spanish Armada.
The Scots have raised their threat level from “swizzled Off” to “Let's Get the Simms.” They don't have any other levels. This is the reason they have been used on the front line of the British army for the last 300 years.
The French government announced yesterday that it has raised its alert level from “Run” to “Hide.” The only two higher levels in France are “Collaborate” and “Surrender.” The rise was precipitated by a recent fire that destroyed France's white flag factory, effectively paralysing the country's military capability.
Italy has increased the alert level from “Shout Loudly and Excitedly” to “Elaborate Military Posturing.” Two more levels remain: “Ineffective Combat Operations” and “Change Sides.”
The Germans have increased their alert state from “Disdainful Arrogance” to “Dress in Uniform and Sing Marching Songs.” They also have two higher levels: “Invade a Neighbour” and “Lose.”
Belgians, on the other hand, are all on holiday as usual; the only threat they are worried about is NATO pulling out of Brussels.
The Spanish are all excited to see their new submarines ready to deploy. These beautifully designed subs have glass bottoms so the new Spanish navy can get a really good look at the old Spanish navy.
Australia, meanwhile, has raised its alert level from “No worries” to “She'll be alright, Mate.” Two more escalation levels remain: “Crikey! I think we'll need to cancel the barbie this weekend!” and “The barbie is cancelled.” So far, no situation has ever warranted use of the final escalation.

133 die in the last 24 hours in Italy, Lombardy region of around 16 million on lockdown. Just the sniffles though. Yep, wash your hands & you'll be fine, honest. The denial is amusing me no end.

Between 2013/14 and 2016/17 flu seasons 68000 people died in italy of the flu and over 5 million instances of the flu 68000 dead divided by 4 flu seasons Thats 17000 a year on average 17000 people a year on average die of flu in italy which if you average it over a year would be 46 people a day but flu season would typically be 4 or 5 months so most of the deaths would be over that time which would be well over a 100 deaths a day during the course of normal flu season in italy and peak days would be even higher than that Most countries produce annual flu reports which are all easily searchable. Italy is struggling the same as they always do because they have an old population

Which reduces the chances of getting the flu, it does not eradicate it. And its only effective if they guess right for the flu season ahead. Its not this virus we need to be scared off but the ecconomy crashing because of people over thinking it. Yes this flu could kill you. But there are alot of other things that are more likely too

Crossing the road can kill you, but no-one wants to ban it...
It's the people who are panic buying I feel sorry for. Just in general.

Come July when the supermarkets have over ordered and half the population are using their years supply they stick piled they'll be slashing the prices to get rid.

Italy is struggling the same as they always do because they have an old population Don't you go coming on here with your actual statistics and science and facts. That will never do. I mean his stats aren't all correct because his misread the paper he got them from. It's not 68,000 deaths from 5,000,000 instances, its 68,000 from 20,000,000+ million. 5,290,000 is the yearly average. Not the total over 4 years. This makes the mortality less than than 0.5%. The current virus could be between 1-3%. If coronavirus leads to as many cases as a seasonal flu, you'd be talking between 50,000 to 150,000 deaths. That's why people are taking it seriously. However don't take my word for it or any other nobody on a hockey forum, nor the scientifically illiterate who've just learnt to parrot the 'facts' they like on facebook without any idea what the numbers they post actually mean. Read the NHS webpage, listen to experts, take the advice of people who actually know, not faceless fools on social media.

Crossing the road can kill you, but no-one wants to ban it... We do do things like putting in pedestrian crossings though, to reduce the risks.

This thread as ever highlights the problem with just using stats. People often just use the bits they want to support their arguement. Clearly it doesn't just apply to sport.
As quite often is the case Im somewhere in the middle ground with my opinion. I'll be going about life as usual with no great concern and I will follow advice of the medical experts.
However, people keep throwing around stats about flu etc like this doesnt even compare. Well Flu on average is reported to result in 0.1% deaths in those that catch it. Covid 19 is being reported at anywhere between 2% globally and 5% in Italy. Even at the bottom end do the maths. If it continues to spread rapidly and infect as many people as flu a hell of a lot more people will die. Regardless of what people say here or in the media we dont know yet how far this will go. Governments are right to be taking it seriously and taking action. Some too extreme and some probably not harsh enough.
The extreme views either side will obviously generate the bigger debate but both sides have some valid points. Just stop using half the information to support your arguement and consider it all.

Some of us like the sensationalism of it all Bagheera my friend.
Italy is verging on complete shutdown now, who is next?

Saw some football teams shaking hands pre-match today...tut. Thought that had been outlawed. Most probably a different association to that which has asked for it to be avoided. Of those not supposed to be shaking hands ,I'm looking for the one player who offers his hand out (in error) to shake another. It's so regular your bound to do it. Get the players to wear boxing gloves, during the match they clutch and grab more than hockey players do.

The players walk out holding hands with the mascots for a start. They run/pose around the field spitting from their noses/mouths all over the place and when they score it's akin to an all out orgy! WTF are no handshakes going to achieve?!

See Italy. It can & will happen. There's no stopping this thing, it's here to wipe out a certain generation. We will have triple figure confirmed cases this week, deaths will follow, mass events will be shutdown, cities potentially locked down, supermarket & petrol panic buying is imminent. Batten down your hatches folks. Or just wash your hands with soap and water 🙂 The amount of folks that don’t wash their hands after going to the bog during intermissions is, quite frankly, disgusting.

Just been announced that Forest owner, Evangelos Marinakis has tested positive for Coronavirus. He was present at Fridays home game with Millwall. Makes you wonder if there will be a surge in Nottingham now.

Sounds like Forest are waiting to hear from EFL if their next 3 games are to be postponed, as the players are expected to self-isolate for 14 days. Let's hope none of the Panthers team went to the game.

I’m being dramatic here, but until there is a vaccine in place the only way to eliminate this virus is for everybody to go into self-isolation and have absolutely no contact with other people. Obviously that’s impossible.
A suppose a level down from that is to limit the number of people we see, only venture out and interact with other people if it’s a necessity, but then what about work? We’re already seeing the financial impact this is having, we can’t all stop going to work.
In my eyes the government are currently doing the right thing in terms of how they are evaluating the situation, they’re giving us instructions and we have to follow them. We have to be strict with ourselves and follow these guidelines.
