Considering he was pretty quiet for the first 30 minutes or so. That penalty kill appeared to spark him big time. I thought Carr, Deutsch and Horvat were very good too. Tbh a lot had great games. They are just the 3 that may go under the radar. 43, 74, 24 were great, the top line were great. The 3 line less so, but they all played their part. I mean, even Lacho scored. Very well done. Need to follow it up tomorrow and just keep going. The slight glimmer is still there. Must have been watching different games...thought Carr was poor, Horvat average and Deutsch quiet. Herr was outstanding, Talbot defensively excellent and the Fick/Lepine pairing were solid all night. Connelly had a really strong game too. I thought Carr made some excellent saves. 1 and 3 he couldnt see at all. He kept us in it big time foe me.

Incredible game in the end
We could have been 4-0 down by the time we scored shorthanded to equalise...that changed the game.
Much like last Saturday we were getting bullied,we then started laying hits, getting in Devils faces and generally being more physical...funny what happens!

An absolutely fantastic result for us tonight, really enjoyed it. After the 1st period I was fearing the worst, it was just one way traffic for Cardiff, the fact that we went into the break level was astonishing really. A good finish from Lacho for our 1st (who would have thought it!)
With them scoring so early in the 2nd we showed some great character and perseverance to get back into it, Ollie’s line again came up with some massive goals and the momentum then went our way. From there we kicked on and made them pay, some clinical finishing from the 1st line sealed the game.
There was a lot of good performances tonight, but Herr was well deserving of his Motm. Hopefully the players have regained their confidence and they put in a similar performance tomorrow. There was a decent crowd tonight and hopefully the atmosphere is the same tomorrow!

Thought the ice was tilted for the first 20 minutes, but somehow we went in level. Second & third periods were a different story. Herr was on another level tonight. The word 'legend' is to easily bandied about, but he truly is. Thinking of having a T-shirt struck; 'Bert scored - and I was there' Bowns was woeful - everything seemed to bounce off him.
Nice to walk away from the arena feeling entertained. Same v Cov today please.

After the first 20 that was some performance. Whatever Tim said to them clearly worked.. Herr was a different level but I felt Tous was the catalyst for us to kick start our comeback. Lots of players picked up their play.
The Devils had no answer from there on in..
Always said get shots in on Bowns and he crumbles

One save stood out when the devils broke out on a 2 on 1 short handed and Carr threw his body out and made a great stop

I actually commented before the game on how subdued the atmosphere was. Everyone felt flat after last week. It picked up and naturally grew as we got back into the game. I was getting more and more excited as the 2nd period went on. As wierd as it is to say I think the intensity of the crowd going into last weeks game contributed to the teams downfall. Me, like most had got really, really worked up and I was probably a little too emotional during the game. It's easy to see how thr players could feel the same way. Of course they need to find a way to deal with that pressure in big games. Last night they went back to being calmer omand more cintrolled on the ice. This allowed them to soak up the Cardiff preasure as opposed to losing it like last week. The crowd plays a big part part, the more encouragement the better. The guys need to learn to do what they did last night when the intensity is as high as last week.

Herr tousi and Talbot played excellently up top for us and connelly looked very strong. Herr has unreal skills a player we have to do everything to keep next year. Double his wages I don't care just so everything to keep him. Tousi has been excellent for us he is entertaining throws the opposition off their game and apparently can score as well. Bonus

Lacho's goal kept us in the game. We could have been 3 down by then, but getting it back to 1-1 kept it alive.
Sam Herr's penalty killing effort in the 2nd is when I think the momentum started shifting and the crowd started getting into it. God I love that man!

I agree with all the above comments regarding it being a great game, stand-out players and how key it was to be level after the first period. However, one player who shone for me was Mark Matheson. I don't know how long he was on the ice last night, but he never seemed to be off it. He only got a +- rating of +1, but I feel he was the heartbeat of our defence as well as the guy working hard helping out the offence. Lets hope they have saved some energy for todays game.

It's amusing to read the relevant thread on the Inferno forum... lots of doom & gloom, lots of statements about how utterly rubbish they are this year. No doubt a lot of it is simply because they lost (sounds like some of our more bottom-feeding denizens on here). It was a high-tempo game from start to finish, with an immense amount of offence from Cardiff, an immense defensive display from the Panthers, and lots of end-to-end fast action. But Cardiff lost, so they must have been crap... yeah, right.
If there is anything that the Cardiff Devils should be criticised for, it's 2 major mistakes - one tactical, one strategic:- - tactical... they put 90% of their effort into offence, so much so that they left themselves a bit more vulnerable at the back - and we exploited that. Their defence isn't THAT bad, seeing as they still managed to foil a fair number of our attacks and counter-attacks (although try telling the assembled Cardiff lemon-suckers that!)... but it was a bit below what it should have been. - Ben Bowns is being over-played. According to some Cardiff GB fans I was chatting to at the Olympics tourno last month, Bowns has started every single game for Cardiff this season - and it shows. He's got to be absolutely knackered! Allegedly (not confirmed) Murdy is injured, and is only there to open the door in the boards. And yet Andrew Lord - praised from all directions for being a great coach - has let this continue... no other British backup, not even a cheap import - someone, ANYONE to take just a bit of the load off Bowns. Doesn't strike me as being great coaching, that...
From our side - Carr was excellent, making 39 saves... and the rest of the team was impressive as well. Fick is going up in my estimation, Connelly is a gem... Herr, Hansen, Tousignant, etc etc et-ruddy-cetera... the whole lot of 'em dug deep and worked for the win. Just hope that they've got plenty left in the tank for a dangerous Coventry side today...

Matheson is doing and excellent job and playing Tetlows shifts too which is perfect. Just hope he can play again next year.

I completely agree with you, I think it’s a case of us fans wanting it so badly, the team realised this and were probably influenced by it too much. They lost their composure, and as Wallace has stated, the team were chaotic on the bench. It was a tense affair and I think that not having block 19 setup for that game was a mistake, you’ll probably disagree but, IMO, having that block helps to take the tension out of games.
