As the league campaign is all but over and we're starting to think about next year, thought it would be interesting to see who we want to keep. To keep it as straightforward as possible, just answer "yes/no/maybe" on whether Panthers should keep them. Obviously someone like Herr might get a better offer, but if you want to keep him still put "yes" if you'd want to keep him.
Template: Carr - Whistle - Gospel -
Fick - Desantis - Matheson - Lepine - Connelly - Tetlow - Deutsch -
Lacho - Perlini - Hazeldine - Kelsall - Malmquist - Golovkovs - Hansen - Horvat - Herr - Tousignant - N/A* Talbot - Betteridge - Rheault - Bulmer -
*seems a bit unfair to give him any rating ATM

Carr - Maybe Whistle - Yes Gospel - Yes
Fick - Yes Desantis - Yes Matheson - Yes Lepine - No Connelly - Yes Tetlow - Yes Deutsch - Yes
Lacho - Maybe Perlini - Yes Hazeldine - Yes Kelsall - Yes Malmquist - Maybe Golovkovs - Maybe Hansen - Yes Horvat - Yes Herr - Yes Tousignant - N/A* Talbot - Yes Betteridge - Yes Rheault - No Bulmer - Yes
Only one I think will be contentious is Horvat, I like what he brings on his current line, especially considering he's not had much opportunity with better players. Something tells me without Lacho as a linemate he could provide more offense. I'd also consider going Whistle as starting netminder. Especially with 1 less import next year and what I think is a weak Panthers Britpack. If we could get Farmer back, or poach Ferrara I'd move Lacho to "no" and give his minutes to Kelsall.

Carr - Maybe Whistle - Yes Gospel - Yes
Fick - Yes Desantis - No Matheson - Yes* Lepine - Maybe Connelly - Yes Tetlow - Yes Deutsch - Maybe
Lacho - No Perlini - Yes Hazeldine - Yes Kelsall - Yes Malmquist - Maybe Golovkovs - No Hansen - Yes* Horvat - Yes Herr - Yes* Tousignant - N/A Talbot - Yes* Betteridge - Yes Rheault - No Bulmer - Yes
For the Maybe's, if we can upgrade then I won't be fussed if they leave.
Desantis and Golovkovs, I don't think either are bad, but I feel we can definitely upgrade. I wouldn't want to swap Golovkovs for someone who can't skate well, would want someone with similar speed.
Rheault and Lachowicz, not much needs to be said to justify the No.
Players with * next to their names are key re-signings for me. I excluded British players from that as Brits are essentially key re-signings anyway.

Carr - Maybe Whistle - Yes Gospel - Maybe
Fick - Yes (He’ll be here anyway, 2nd year of MBA) Matheson - Yes Connelly - Yes Tetlow - Yes Deutsch - Yes Lepine - Maybe DeSantis - Maybe
Perlini - Yes Hazeldine - Yes Kelsall - Yes Hansen - Yes Herr - Yes Tousignant - N/A* Talbot - Yes Betteridge - Yes Malmquist - Maybe Golovkovs - Maybe Horvat - Maybe Bulmer - Maybe Lacho - No Rheault - No
For me, the maybes are players who I’d be happy to see back but if the team can be adjusted and ultimately improved with some different players then so be it.
Without wanting to confuse the situation we will also be at the mercy of the new roster restrictions next season. 13 imports, 4 O25 Brits and 3 U25 Brits.
This will make it quite difficult for Wallace, especially on defence.

One less import and one less Brit. The struggling teams will safe money and the Arena teams will either put the saving into better players or trouser the money in sunnier places. On that basis foolishly hoping for upgrades what I would like is:
Carr - No Whistle - Yes Gospel - No
Fick - Yes Desantis - No Matheson - Yes Lepine - Yes Connelly - Yes Tetlow - Yes Deutsch - Yes
Lacho - Yes Perlini - Yes Hazeldine - No Kelsall - No Malmquist - Yes Golovkovs - No Hansen - Yes Horvat - Yes Herr - Yes Tousignant - N/A* Talbot - Yes Betteridge - Yes Rheault - No Bulmer - Depends on the next few weeks

Isn't Whistle younger, or same age, as Gospel? I think the latter's time has come and gone personally.

Dont think either have been bad at all. Matherson has been far better than i thought, but he'll be 37 and i think we need to freshen up the squad. At some point it'll be a season too far. Connelly has been solid but thought we'd get more production out of him. Wouldnt be gutted if either signed though.

My picks:
Carr - Yes Whistle - Yes Gospel - No
Fick - Yes Desantis - No Matheson - Yes Lepine - No Connelly - Yes Tetlow - Yes Deutsch - Yes
Lacho - Yes Perlini - Yes Hazeldine - Yes Kelsall - Yes Malmquist - Yes Golovkovs - No Hansen - Yes Horvat - No Herr - Yes Tousignant - N/A* Talbot - Yes Betteridge - Yes Rheault - No Bulmer - No
I would also keep an eye on the coach situation in DEL2 in case there is a change and Farmer becomes available cause would add him back. Also would give Kelsall more ice time.

Easier to say it like this. Yes - All the Brits, and Panthers need to get a(nother) premier scoring Brit. Offer Ferrara or Long a wedge to come here. I'd like to see Ollie in the top 9 if not the top 6. I'm basing this on the assumption that Lacho will leave over the summer. I'd like Panthers to keep Herr, but that would be a minor miracle. Hansen and Malmqvist get a yes. I wouldn't say no to Talbot, but he may well retire. Fick and Connelly have done the business so far, Matheson might retire, if not, he'd be OK, especially if he can manage his icetime better. No - All the rest. Replaceable/upgrade-able/not shown enough consistency.

Simple question .. if Herr was a devils player would you expect them to retain him?

it all depends if there are better options out there who become available during the summer.
But, purely based on this season if no better players are available:
Template: Carr - Yes Whistle - Yes Gospel - Yes
Fick - Yes Desantis - Maybe Matheson - Yes Lepine - Maybe Connelly - Yes Tetlow - Yes Deutsch - Maybe
Lacho - No Perlini - Yes Hazeldine - Yes Kelsall - Maybe Malmquist - Maybe Golovkovs - No Hansen - Yes Horvat - Yes Herr - Yes Tousignant - So Far Yes Talbot - Yes Betteridge - Yes Rheault - NO NO NO NO NO Bulmer - No

Simple question .. if Herr was a devils player would you expect them to retain him? I'd expect them to try, same as I expect Panthers to. I don't think Cardiff have ever had a player quite as good in whole league terms. Kyle Baun/Patrick Dwyer (sadly now retired it seems) would be my comparators. Where Cardiff score is they very rarely get duff new signings. They always seem to get the player they need, be it an offensive dynamo (Haddad/Martin/Hedden) a reliable second line depth scorer (Pope/Bentivoglio/Ulmer) or a third line anchor. They very rarely trumpet players as something they turn out not to be.

He also leads the team in minuses, although he is also second on pluses (and both of those are related to his icetime). Whether he'd led on "minuses per 60 minutes of icetime" is another matter. I'd probably like to see him back if he can be guaranteed a smaller role.

His legs might be slower than they were but his brain works quicker than anyone else’s in this league?! 4 points this weekend and double shifting. He’s in my top 3 to bring back. Top 2 even!
