Evening guys, Firstly I guess we can all be proud of the Panthers with how they played over the weekend. We never gave up in either match. Even yesterday when we were 3-0 down we clawed a win from defeat and that takes bottle and backbone and a goal scoring God of a Captain.
Real gutted that we finished tied 1st but losing out on head to head a daft and ridiculous way to separate teams when even on points and only when we play each other once only imo.
The refs were always going to rule this weekend, called practically nothing against the other three teams and called everything on us. they were god awful officials all weekend.
What can I say about the goal god that is Herr Capatain. His goal was a beauty, ghosted in and top shelf great pass and goal.
Just to make a honest point about Belfast in the CHL this season, The reason Belfast got the invite was due to the fact that the winners of the Continental Cup couldn't enter due to Geographical issues. I think if my mind serves me well it was that they were from Kirghistan and was on the boarder of a war torn country or something.
I hope this bitter result gives us a springboard to win some silverware this season, We can still catch Sheffield and with Belfast slipping up in Guildford tonight makes it 4 games in hand for us so a possible 8 points on offer starting with the Clan on Thursday night. Just hope our injuries aren't too serious or I can see a few more new faces in the near future.
overall we have done GB and the elite league proud again as always. Lets go panthers ^_^

Well Yotes, the way I would have done it would be the same as the Elite League and how its done in the NHL, it should of been settled by Points first (of course we tied on 7pts) then imo it should have gone to Regulation Wins which would have given us the championship but whats done is done and I hope we can get back to try again next season. Wouldn't you agree?

I think they have it the right way around. We got 2 regulation wins, but one of them was down to Krakow trying the old Hail Mary, that comes down to the order you play the games. The head-to-head is the fairest way to separate two teams, IMO.
Agree with you that I hope we can get back into Europe in some form next season.

At the end of the day, there’s one team who won every game. And they’re champions. It’s fair.

It’s tournament hockey, and thus I have no problem at all with head to head being used as a tiebreak as if it was a knockout game v the Danes, we’d have been knocked out. Seems a more appropriate way of doing it when as others have said we got a regulation win because only because of the format.
Regulation wins is much more appropriate to a wider league setting when the playing field is a lot more narrow and level throughout the year. A team chasing the league for instance isn’t going to pull their goalie in the opening game of the season to try and win from a tied position. So you need the reference to their long term record IMO in the form of Reg Wins. The Continental Cup in its current format is open to way too much weird stuff for it to be used IMO because it is only a 3 game tournament.

A team may pull a goalie in a league game at the end of a season mind. But all told, the Danes won fair and square. It's just anoying for us that it's a round robin of games and not all the games are used to fathom out a winner.but you can't win em all...... pun intended. Runners up sounds good in the history books,
Ready for the next short run competition....Cup ( be it odd ball at the start and the play offs.

I suppose the only downside to this competition is the amount of injuries we have come back with. Hopefully this doesn't ruin the remainder of the season.

SonderjyskE were very worthy winners.

What an amazing weekend. At 1-3 we were superb last night and really played with pride. I'm glad you enjoyed it Pidge because with all the injuries pre and post this weekend its most unlikely now to even challenge let alone win anything this season.. I was a little surprised we didn't announce a surprise signing before the weekend but I guess the management thought we could wing it without splashing the cash.... seems short sighted now doesn't it... All in all nice euro jolly but if the aim was to get into the CHL by the back door then ultimately fruitless apart from coming back with more injuries which are likely to scupper what should be the clubs bread and butter i.e. the league....

I've seen a number of fans now question the tie breaker format for this tournament but for me it's 100% correct.
Regulation wins is usually the first criteria looked at in most leagues across the world and that is correct over a long season.
The reason they go on head to head for a the continental cup is for the exact scenario we had this weekend.
Over a 3 game competition how could it ever be conceived as fair that a team that wins 3 out of 3 not win the competition? I've seen some fans try to make that argument.
Rules and regulations for the tournament were openly available prior to the competition starting so it's not the IIHF against the UK conspiracy some would love it to be.
Perhaps we should look inwards at the fact we had to rely on the Danes to score for us on Friday and we couldn't hit a barn door the whole game. That's why we are runners up.
Nobody but ourselves to blame. The other teams were wiser to Euro style refs making soft calls, we didn't learn quickly enough on Friday.
Remember #Thommosexcuses when he was at Sheffield ?
A few Panthers fans would do well to remember that when they make up trivial reasons for our shortcomings.
If it wasn't for Sam Herr our season would look a complete disaster right now. We owe him a lot!
I don't think we were terrible this weekend, I think the team and fans represented ourselves well but at the same time they did nothing out of the ordinary.
No heroes welcome please. We battled hard but we also didn't start on time for 2 games. Back to the league grind and keep ourselves in this title race. League contenders dropped points this weekend, for that reason alone this was a good weekend for us.

I think he is going to be out for a while yet If this is true then we need to look at bringing another player in. If DeSantis is also injured long term then ideally we should bring in two players, even with the possibility of it being a forward and a defenceman, giving Tetlow time as the 6th dman.

I’m not sure I’d want Tetlow being a regular 6th DMan yet especially going into the crucial stretches of the season. He is still developing and isn’t quite ready yet in my opinion.

All I wanted out of the weekend was no injuries, the league is what's important. Instead Panthers come back with at least 2, maybe 3, fairly tricky injuries that kept players out of games and not a peep from the team (I don't think, happy to be corrected if they have). Doesn't sound good to me. Playing with 4 D including Tetlow won't cut it at the weekend. If Panthers can come away with 4 points from the 2 games this weekend, it will be a sensational effort.
