Jackson Whistle joins the Panthers

A surprising move but one we could have expected I think!

Potentially a shrewd move i think from Panthers. It wouldn't surprise now if we signed 15 imports as when Whistle plays then we can ice 14 import skaters. This might be backed up by them emphasising that they will be looking at young brits and also with Gospel still being on our roster

If Whistle was #1, I would be very unhappy. As #2, as long as Carr gets most games, this makes sense... not ecstatic about it (Whistle has never impressed me, be it for Belfast, Sheffield or GB) but avoiding using up an import slot could be very valuable.

I agree. I think this is a good move, it gives us some great depth and flexibility. Whistle is a solid enough goaltender to take the pressure off Carr, he can keep you in a game, I wouldn’t say he wins games on his own but he can do a job. Hopefully his game might improve considering he’s got some direct competition from the off. Well, hopefully his rebound control does!😂

So who would be back-up keeper in those games?? I can't see Gospel sitting on the bench for many when he's starter for Leeds.

I’m ecstatic with this. A real goalie tandem and in a very poor Sheffield Steelers team, did quite well. Let’s not forget, he won more games against us than he lost and 2 seasons ago backstopped the Giants to a challenge cup win. He’s only 24. I think it’s a cracking move.

He’s here as back up but he might be able to long term, become a number one. And who knows, him and sammy into the future could be a solid move

If you read the release they say they are looking at top british prospects to train and dress as well as gospel still being on the roster. So i'd say they will get gospel if Leeds aren't playing or getting one or more of the prospects to back up

Exactly my view. As a back up he is a great signing. We have proved that sharing duties and chopping and changing goalies just doesn't work(even if it should). All recent league winners back to Kwall is 2012/2013 have had a number 1 play 90% of the games. Sheffield did use 2 but I believe one replaced the other and they didnt rotate for the season.

My only concern is that although the article states back up I just dont see him accepting that. I'd put money on us giving him plenty of league games. Which would not be so good.

Still, heres hoping he comes here and proves how good he is. Still young, especially for a goalie, so plenty of room to get better.

Not as bad as some make out. Suffers from a bit of inconsistency at times but is a reliable shot stopper.

I can’t see why anyone would be disappointed with this signing. At 24 he has plenty of potential, already played 100 games the league, GB international, won things. What’s not to like?

Start Carr in all leagues games, give Whistle the CC. Split the continental. If we can get another Brit back up we can a also then play an extra import. Great signing for me, well done Panthers.

But thats not my point. We need to stick with 1 goalie to play 45+ games, ideally 50+. Championships appear to be won by teams that stick with a number 1 who plays the vast majority of games.

In theory, 2 decent ones putting pressure on each other should work. It just simply doesn't work. We've done it pretty much every season since 2013 and look where we've finished. Even with goalies like Pacl who got to play too many.

Jackson is a good goalie and hopefully Carr is too(Certainly could be a star). If Carr doesnt end up being top drawer we end up with 2 average goalies in this league, Average = Good. Great = Best in league, title contender.

Id take a bet with anybody that if Whistle plays 15+ games we wont win the league.

It could work out to be a great combo, but for me Carr needs to be nailed on number 1 for that to be the case.

No, I agree with that, however paired with the other league winners having a clear number 1 the evidence suggests thats the way to go.

To be clear, Im happy enough Jackson being here and in a few years he could develop into a number 1. I just want to see us stick with one and not flip flop to keep them happy.
