A lot of people are talking about who we should sign back and build for next season....you know who no one has mentioned...Tim Wallace. I was fully sceptical of his appointment. I was calling for his head in October. But for me, he’s proven his skill set as a coach, as a tactician and for us playing entertaining hockey. Fact is after an 10 plus game losing streak and a horrible start, were still in the league hunt in January is excellent. He’s really turned us around. Yes Wallace should be retained for another year,he’s done ok so far. Not quite sure what exactly Doucet has brought to the party though,I’d much rather see his £30k a year or whatever he’s on spent on players. There’s a £1000 a week extra you could chuck at keeping Sam Herr for a start.

Ling shone in a better team. I’d have him as number 1. The fact that we are worried about Herr going tells you all you need about the club’s lack of ambition and failure to keep good players over the years. We either don’t treat them well enough eg Craighead or have even allowed returning players like Tess or Adey to go elsewhere (and in fact to our rivals) . Similarly, keeping poor players like Rheault doesn’t happen with the three teams who regularly compete. If Panthers were serious about the league, we’d be upgrading to close the gap. We aren’t. Apparently these two in charge (Doucet and Wallace) are here to get us up and running. So this be the first season it only will prove its all fake if we don't start this rebuilding by retaining players.

Not on clear information, but just uncertainty - guilty until proven innocent? That's ridiculous... The plain and simple fact is... no, us fans don't know what Gui Doucet does. Nor are we likely to unless the club decide to fling open the doors and reveal the inner workings of the organisation. Maybe they should, maybe they shouldn't... on that one, I'm "not quite sure" But without clear and confirmed information, it would be insanity to make sweeping changes. Wallace is the 'front man' of the on-ice management... doesn't mean to say that he's doing all of the work. Maybe, as it is on the ice, it's a team effort - Wallace & Doucet both. Right now, although things are far from perfect, we appear to be on an upward swing. Perhaps we shouldn't risk scuppering that by making random changes, eh? Quite frankly, I'd say that the team of Doucet & Wallace need to be given at least this season & next to prove themselves before we even think about calling for heads on the block. Or we could end up with another "let's-make-changes-and-bring-in-fresh-blood" situation that doesn't quite work out and we're back at square one with another season wasted *cough* Chernomaz *cough*. No thanks...

No thanks... We have a core group of players and a stud or 2 many, many fans are calling for us to retain. Based on job description then we can only assume Doucet played a big roll in that. Yes some mistakes to start(Even a lot of fans thought Quist would be good here) but the replacements have been good. Wallace has a team competing in January, it's a good while since we have seen that. That with what is a team short in certain areas. Like the way the team is playing or not, it is short on quality in the forward ranks. By that I mean depth more than anything. Together they have the majority of us in a positive mindset for the first time in a good few seasons. How often in the last few months have threads been full of venom aimed at the club ownership and management?? I personally cant believe my mindset has changed so much. Its quite exciting. Doucet and Wallace have helped us put our gripes to the back of our minds and enjoy going to the NIC every week. For that alone they deserve another season.

But then I would have thought most people would know perfectly well from the turn of phrase I used as to exactly what I meant. I guess it’s just your usual extremely pedantic way of splitting hairs to the enth degree that meant you picked fault. But seeing as the only thing we really seem to have seen or heard concerning recruitment has centred around Wallace and/or his Notre Dame connections it rather suggests he’s been the central figure not Doucet.

And yet Connolly has been scoring leader all year bar the last weekend, and has just had a 21 game points streak broken, Vallerand has the best points per game in the league by a mile (only has 3 pointless games so far this season), and DeLuca had a 7 point game the other night. Steelers are scoring goals for fun this season. Oh, and Steelers are sitting pretty way in front in the league table, points in the bag. I would think he's happy enough. But yes, if Panthers can keep Herr it would be outstanding news. Once games played gets levelled out Steelers wont be sitting as pretty as some think. I'd be happy if most of our d return. Lete be honest this Steelers team is like a Early Neilson panthers team.. run and gun.. But run and gun with a goalie who can now put up excellent stats. Duba's save % in December was 93.84%. That will win you a lot of games even if you don't score for fun. Belfast and Cardiff have 9 games left against the "other 3", Panthers and Steelers 8. There's no "advantage" much there yet. I suspect the title will go to the team with the hot goalie, who can get the dirty results, and stay healthy.

Doucet and Wallace seem to be working well together, lets keep it like that. None of us really know what Doucet does, or how much he might earn. So far, we've released 3 players and replaced them with 3 better ones. Our D is the best its been in a while and Carr isnt bad. Herr is the best player i've seen in a long time. Doucet has played his part in that and cause of that i'd keep him. I doubt we will keep Herr but you never know - lets just enjoy things as they are at the moment

Genuinely, on what basis do you say that? He's a player who never got near the NHL, never really stuck in the A, and played the majority of his games in the ECHL. CV wise, plenty far better than that have played in the EIHL. He had a career year last year with an insane +/-, but is nowhere near repeating it this year. He does seem to like Cardiff though. I don't think he's anywhere near (say) DEL level though? Sam Jardine has a similar CV to Fournier, and this year is outshining him defensively, leading the Devils at +13, to Fournier's +1. Mark Louis and McMonagle are both -11. Based on what he’s done in the EIHL over several years and he’s a great skater too. If he can outshine other EIHL players who have played in better leagues then why would Fournier not be able to play in those same leagues. People are saying Herr could play in better leagues based on exactly that....what he’s doing in the EIHL. Herr compared to every other forward in the league is head and shoulders above them period. Fournier hes a very good d man but wood you say hes on another level to Connelly? I wouldn't.. he may get more points but his game is suited to the systems Lord adapts

Connolly looks a pretty good player yes but I read more groans about him on here than any other Dman on Panthers roster. At least I do now Lépine has smartened his game up anyway. Wherever Connolly has played then Fournier could play too which is the original point I made.

Wherever Connolly has played then Fournier could play too which is the original point I made. The point is, Fournier hasn't played in the SHL or EBEL, nor only ever played pro in NA in the AHL, so it's largely academic. Point of order. Herr, whilst undeniably superb, is surely not actually "head and shoulders above every other forward in the league"? Panthers MVP so far, clearly for me and many others, a beast of a player, and equally certainly well in the mix for anyone handing out a "league's best" gong, but it's not like he's got 20 more points than anyone else, is it? By all means, credit where it is indubitably due, but "head and shoulders better than anyone else"? The "best" forward in terms of points per game this season is Marco Vallerand at Sheffield, some serious scoring from a player whom some on here criticised when signed for Sheffield. Had he scored at his current pace for the number of games Herr has played, he'd have 4 more points than Herr. Surely Vallerand comes up to at least Herr's chin?

It would be interesting to see Herr’s ice time stats compared to others. Presumably he’s being playing some pretty big minutes.

Forget the stats for a minute.. watch him play.. theres a reason why his AHL team wanted to retain him.. where was Vallerand last year? The Austrian 2nd division? Bit different in quality?
Hes a goal poacher nothing more.. Herr is as close to the complete forward you will see in this league. Period. Plays every situation as already been said hes good both ends of the ice. High skill set and terrific skater for a big man , his skating reminds me of DAB

High skill set and terrific skater for a big man , his skating reminds me of DAB Spot on for me. Whilst i've seen many a very good player play over here (Ling, Martin, McAslan etc) there is something Herr has which wraps everything all into one. You watch him play, his work rate is phenomenal, hence his form in the shorthanded category. His Elusiveness, which can't be underestimated is fantastic, even in tight spaces, in corners with 3 players round him, they can't get the puck off him. His skillset 1-on-1 is up there with the best, has the speed, skating ability and stick work to beat every Dman in this league. Defensively, his ability to kill penalties coupled with his hand eye co-ordination means airbourne passes aren't a guaranteed success. Ive lost count the amount of times hes batted pucks out the air to lead us back the other way. And i think it is these finer things in his armoury, which some people may not take note of, that make him stand out from the rest. One final point (and some may say most importantly ) hes a genuinely decent, humble and team-first guy - making him the Perfect captain Christ, i've even amazed myself with how much i can stroke someone off in one post....!

If he doesn’t at least lead the forwards in ice time, I’d be amazed. The quote above about the humble team first guy he is is also very relevant. Excellent choice for captain.

Our captain has had the Panthers media treatment on youtube I see.
That'll convince him to sign for next season.

Signing of the summer so far! Of any team !! That's a stud.. not sure why hes chose to come to the U.K at that age but I ll take it. Great work Doucet and Wallace! Nowhere near for me. The numbers just arent there. Perlini has better NCAA number as do tonnes of guys in our league. Kevin Henderson has 50% higher ppg in the AHL. Im sure he'll do a job for us but i doubt he'll turn out to be a stud. I have him at sumit like 0.6 ppg. Not convinced the the recruitment so far at all. Still of this opinion eh 🤣😉

There's very little indeed, prior stats wise, between Herr and Horvat, but a world of difference on the ice.

Most of the import forwards could probably have been described as being top six. Especially when you’ve got Jon Rheault taking up one forward slot on the roster along with Malmquist and Lacho in the mix too. 😁
