The elephant in the room for me is the Budget - is GD keeping a portion back incase Farmer signs back up? Will that stop GD bringing in a player of a higher quality just incase? Personally I think it would be a mistake if he planned to work it that way. I’m sure Farmer willl have an offer from Neilson in the first place though which is why he’s informed the club on his plans. We need to allocate Farmers wages elsewhere, the key at the minute is signing another British forward, Davies would be ideal, Boxill would be also be suitable.

For me it’s the budget too....the whole budget. Look what Steelers must be spending on their Brits,it must be close to £5k a week,Panthers won’t be spending even half that with what they have at the moment. That should mean Panthers imports ought to appear more expensive but we haven’t seen it so far. With the greatest respect, you’re pulling unknown numbers to make an unknown conclusion there. As you’ve said yourself before, all these are wait and see players. But I imagine there’s hundreds of hours worth of video available to GD that agents and players create that will determine the amount they spend. From the press release Panthers have put out, we’re going with some spare D men as well. We’ve not got a top 6 forward unit yet. I’d be very surprised if this is a cheap roster by the start of pre season. We’ve gone with a different looking roster - let’s not write it off before it’s complete or a picks dropped Just commenting on what we can see so far which is all we can do and that is Steelers Brit pack v Panthers Brit pack and at the moment it’s so lop sided it’s staggering,so assuming they spent the same in total overall then Panthers budget should stretch to the better imports. We shall see in the coming weeks.

Errr yes he will. Hes a centre. Our whole top line is yet to come and loiseau will be 2nd line centre! I wouldn't be so sure Coach Pidge.
Perlini doesn't always play centre, nor is Loiseau's position set in stone, infact one of his biggest selling points is his flexibility up front.
Could be a potential second line of: Loiseau - Perlini - Rheault
To the contrary, that could be our 3rd line, and I think I’d be a lot more hopeful if it was.

This doesn't always gaurantee a better import as we know.
Who do think was Panthers top paid player of the past few seasons....?

If the 2nd line is Perlini, rheult and loiseau we are in big trouble!

I’d say either Mcgrattan,Janssen or Sauve. Garnett maybe not cos of Uni.

Stewart? Or was it really true that he played for free, as rumoured?

Riley’s contract extension allowed either party to walk away - that’s what Riley tweeted I believe. That sounds different to Farmer’s according to Panthers’ tweet.

Either way he was on a real good deal & CV wise you can understand why. I'm still amazed we kept him for year two, you might recall at the time I seriously doubted his return. I guess we just had too much invested in him to cut free.

Farmer cannot go to another EIHL team for 2019/20 season without Panthers granting permission. A bizarre contract protection but one that Panthers have used in the past. not so much recently though. Almost a paranoia clause.

Very true, which is why we could then try and bring Boxill in for the 4th line, he did a good enough job for the league winning Giants last season. He wouldn’t be a direct replacement for Farmer, but in terms of filling roles and making funds available to bring better imports in Boxill would be a no brainer.

You don’t always no but I think Uni stuffed Garnett,he was obviously still very capable but either couldn’t cope with it all or was more focussed on his studies than hockey. I never thought it was a good idea signing a goalie on a Uni deal, that was a dumb move. I’m not advocating signing washed up 35/36 year olds though I’d much rather see AHLers than NHLers. Reckon my top four is right on the wage front though. 😉

It’s not a case of who’s a better British forward , it’s whobwants to perform as Farmer clearly didn’t want to last season... Jord is right re the contracts, weather its an "unwritten" rule or is actually there in the fine print of the rule book, When a player leaves a club whilst under contract its all about who terminates the contract, if its the player then he can't sign in the EIHL. if its the club, then he is free to go where he wants. So Blair Riley, could be that Giants have terminated his contract, or haven't taken the 2nd year option. the wording of the Panthers Tweet reads to me, that he hasn't signed anywhere, is technically a panther, but is activity pursuing a contract abroad. either of the DEL2 sides EHC Freiburg / Lausitzer Füchse would be a stepping stone. The only saving grace could come in to save the day Re Farmer going, is the "british passport = Brit" so Mosey, Billingsly etc all count as brits - that is rumoured to be being brought in. Personally i cant see it this season, but come christmas, i can see it being announced for next season. But this is the EIHL, so expect it to go live mid august this season. Billingsley absolutely no chance, Ben Davies no chance... Boxhill perhaps but meh, he's another Lacho for me. Just on the contracts most EIHL clubs have them for 2yr deals for Brits & imports. it's just rare a player wants to leave the EIHL during the deal. Panthers are a tad miffed Farmer is exercising his options, hence mentioning it.

I get that they're miffed, but making a point of it is just petulance? Farmer's doing nothing wrong at all, in exploring his options.

This is exactly the sort of stuff and petulance that pee’s people and players off....and Panthers wonder why they lose out on players with the bad rep they’ve got. At least Farmer made a tweet from them if not the main news feed. Lol 😂

If Panthers had kept silent you'd be here bitchin about how they have no recpect for the fans and that they keep us in the dark. So they cant win.

I actually agree with the club. They needed to make it clear it’s not them that are waivering on him signing. They have an obligation to inform fans of facts which is all they’ve done here

Just listening to Doucet's interview on BBC radio Nottingham - I wouldn't hold your breath for any of those 'out of the bag' senior Brit signings to happen in replacement of Farmer or Lee. Sounds very much like those we have will just be shifted up the line up, so expect bigger roles from Betteridge and Tetlow definitely with the possibility of Kelsall being a permanent fixture on the 4th line.
