It's the bit between the commas that is being debated here. No need for any of it, IMHO. He is not "under an Elite league contract" at all if he has an option within that contract to tell the club he wants to try his luck elsewhere. This reads to me like the club are just making a point that they wanted him to stay but he doesn't, and they've got the hump. At best, it's very badly worded. At worst, it's just plain ar$ey and unprofessional. Simms said he can’t sign anywhere in the league other than Nottingham this season. He would have to be under contract for that. That's a term in the contract, not being "under contract". I believe that is right, if Farmer leaves, in the second year, it can't be to another EIHL team without compensation being paid. Now he's signed for Corey, he's no longer under any contract to the Panthers, unless he wishes to return to the EIHL during the 19/20 season, when we got back to the above, I'd guess. Panthers hold his EIHL rights for 19/20, in effect. Which is (almost certainly) subtly different from being "under contract". But let's not talk legal-ese, because none of us know exactly what's in said contract.... Wonder why only a 3 month try-out?

Although Evan asked Cherno if he could come back and was denied it could be a sneaky way of actually coming back to a different EIHL club, leave here go to Europe for a couple of months, claim it hasn't worked out and then hey ho turn up where you really wanted to go... all assumptions of course If he joins another EIHL team part way through the 2019/20 season they would have to pay Panthers a fee. I did wonder that Jord, so Panthers still hang onto his card thing even tho he's leaving? Wonder if it was different for Evan then, or maybe he didn't have that type of clause in his contract. different scenario I know. edited: just saw the reply from Bobness above which explains

That deal to join Cardiff would have depended on if Panthers said they wanted him or not. If they had any brains they would have said yes to get the payment from Cardiff.

Does that mean we'll have another signing announcement 'imminently' to counter the loss of Farmer. Brit pack looking increasingly small this year. You called it!! It's so predicable at times lol
