I just found out how the Cup competition in Denmark works. What a brilliantly simplistic idea. After the first 16 league games are complete, the top four teams go into the semi finals. The semis and final are played on one weekend in late January/early February. Winner goes into the Continental Cup. Sønderjyske are in the Continental Cup this year because they lost the final to Rungsted who also won the league. Not a bad idea. Not extra games to squeeze more money from fans though so never going to happen here. Yeah I'm not really seeing 194 games against Sheffield with that format.

Whilst ideas I come up with are discounted as the EIHL would state that there is not an equal amount of games for all clubs to play in the competition. Here in this Danish version, we have similar as 5 of the nine are void of some Cup action as it's part of the league anyway.
However, this seems like the old Autumn Cup which had a separate league for clubs to vie for a semi-final slot. So it is achievable if this was done before the league started. Two separate small leagues if you like. The Autumn cup had a Northern section (Scottish) and an English (Southern) grouping. Played before the league started it got this out of the way early season. ie) Autumn Cup.
Even this Danish type is better than what we are playing around with just now.
