Back on topic I DONT RATE STEVE LEE! It's not really "on topic" but yeah, Pidge, we get that. It's kind of embarrassing now. The only one with steam coming out of their ears is you.

I certainly wonāt be laughing - the fact you will speaks volumes about you as a person Hope they cause an upset tbh and that Stevie Lee gets the GWG just to wee wee you off.

No way Iāll be laughing at all. Hoping they hold their own, even if only for 2 periods!? Hell yes. Cheering the rank underdogs? Hell yes. Praying Bowns can play out of his skin? Hell yes. Expecting one or two games to be a tad one sided? Hell yes. Hoping they arenāt? Hell yes. But laughing at them? Good God no.
What kind of a sports āfanā would do that on the biggest stage the national team has played on for 25 years?
I say play your hearts out, leave nothing out there and come what may, hold your heads high indeed.

By the way I WILL be cheering for the underdog but also WILL be expecting the worst. Theres more chance of Panthers winning another league title than Stevie Lee scoring a GWG š

Anyone know why Peacock didnāt make the 25? Just not good enough this year? Why a player doesn't make the team... not the kind of thing we ever really find out, unless it's a blatantly obvious reason. My guess would be that whatever his exact role would be on the team, he was just beaten out by a player or players considered to be more useful. In this particular case, it would have been a well-informed decision... what with Pete Russell having coached him all season.

Theres more chance of Panthers winning another league title than Stevie Lee scoring a GWG š You know he's a defensive D man, yes? One goal this season shows that. So highly unlikely to score a GWG under any circumstances, but you carry on. What on Earth did he do to you to deserve this constant vitriol?

Peacock used to be a regular and I thought he had done well in previous years for GB. As you say though, with Pete HC at the club he plays for youād expect him to have a pretty well informed decision on him.

Is it not a slightly stupid idea to cut the roster to 25 at the point, when we have two games against a Russian team left to play before a exhibition game vs. Slovakia prior to the championships?
Why not cut it to 25 after this weekend? We could get several injuries..

First you narrow down who will be on the team... which inevitably means a large amount of switching around and no consistent lines. But then you need to settle the lines and have the team practice and have actual game time as the final team... that's what this weekend's games and the single warm-up game in Slovakia (May 4th) will be for. BTW... a bit more, from the horse's mouth so to speak, on Steve Lee and Ciaran Long:- <Pete Russell>

How come GB are playing a KHL team now ? I would have thought Torpedoās players would have finished their season and gone home by now.

How come GB are playing a KHL team now ? I would have thought Torpedoās players would have finished their season and gone home by now. Honestly? - I can only guess. Maybe Novgorod have some arrangement with one or more national teams to keep their players match-fit before the Worlds without the full national team(s) actually playing? I know that sounds a bit far-fetched, but it's the nearest that I can think of... Or - and this is closer to black-helicopter conspiracy theory stuff than anything else - perhaps it's a covert way for the KHL to scout out hockey in this country? <DISCLAIMER> No, I don't believe that last one for a single minute... it's totally made-up, complete and utter drivel... and would no doubt be lapped up by some of the more cranially-challenged types around...

Torpedo squad for tonight's game. Goalkeepers: Andrey Tikhomirov, Nikolay Molkov, Sergey Bolshakov; Defenders: Dmitry Rodionychev, Ilya Nazarevich, Artyom Alyaev, Mikhail Orlov, Egor Ogienko, Pavel Medvedev, Ilya Olendarenko; Forwards: Vladimir Galuzin, Mikhail Varnakov, Dmitry Semin, Viktor Shakhvorostov, Kirill Urakov, Danil Veriaev, Pavel Makarenko, Mikhail Smolin, Daniil Ilyin, Anton Schonfeld, Donat Stalnov, Mikhail Yesayan.
#1 goalie (Galimov) missing. Tokhomirov played 16 games in the KHL season, 3.12GAA, 90.6 SP. Forwards wise, the 2 imports (Calof and Miele, top and 3rd top scorers) are missing, as is Parshin (2nd) and Zhafyarov (4th). Schonfeld was 5th, with 6+23 in 52 games. Scorers 6th and 7th are missing, but Galuzin was 8th, 12+13. Varnakov was 9th, 13+11. Shakhvorostov has never played a KHL game. Urakov had 4+5 in the KHL last season, Veriaev 6+13, Makarenko 1+3, Smolin 2+1 in 25 games(half the season in the VHL), Ilyin 6+11, Stalnov 0+1 in 7 KHL games (rest of season in the MHL (he's 19)) and Yesayan played 1 KHL game last year (rest of the season in the VHL). Harder to tell on D but Holm isn't playing (7+19, -13), not Barantsev (5+16 and +13) nor Bodie (3+13, even). Orlov looks the pick, 6+9 and +6 in the season, all 7 play off games. Rodionychev played 24 KHL games and 1 of the 7 play off games, Nazarevich 15 regular season games only (acquired mid season) but all 7 play off games, Alyaev 21 reg season (3+3, having played for Spartak Moscow and Dinamo Riga also)) and all 7 play off games, Ogienko 9 KHL games (mostly VHL), Medvedev played 1 KHL game (rest VHL), and Olendarenko also 1 KHL game (a few MHL games).
So, no #1 netminder, only 3 of the play off D out of 6, and 3 of the top 10 scorers in the regular season. Not exactly full KHL strength, but I bet they'll still be good...

Novgorod may be missing some top players, but I bet they will still be expecting to win and will play hard with that in mind.
This will be a tough test for GB, but will be very useful... not just a game with the final roster, but a game against a team closer to the skill level that they be facing in a couple of weeks.
I for one am looking forward to it, even despite IHUK's gouging of us regarding the ticket prices.
