Rissling has been quite a hot topic lately due to the Fife incident and his third suspension of the season, which I believe will equate to his 9th or 10th game missed due to suspension. There has been a lot of criticism aimed at him since Sunday with some fans suggesting he shouldn't wear black and gold again. So what does everyone think of him? Are you a fan?
Personally, I think he's a good player. He's 25? so still pretty young. Moves well for a big body and isn't too bad carrying the puck, has a decent shot and a decent pass. Throws hits, gets stuck in and makes his presence felt.
His first suspension was fair, a little cheap elbow. The second suspension was pretty heavy for the hit on Mosey. The third suspension is quite lenient and clearly doesn't include the repeat offender point.
I've seen Panthers fans as well as fans around the league saying he should get banned for 10+ games, with some Panthers fans saying he shouldn't wear our jersey again.. I feel the suspension probably should've been longer but saying he shouldn't wear our jersey again? Give me a break. He's a good player, one of our better defenceman. I like the fact he plays aggressive and with an edge, old school player.. some of his hits have been superb, and if anyone drops the gloves with him they aren't going to do particularly well.. Ulmer *cough cough*.
He does need to engage his brain a bit more and not goon it up in the sense that there's better ways to deal with players than to cross-check them in the back of the head. A nice, hard but clean hit to MacKenzie would have sufficed on Sunday, he isn't a guy who would fight Rissling, he's a softie.
I feel the lack of structure coaching/management wise has basically given him a green light to do whatever he wants, but with the right structure I feel he could easily be transformed into a very responsible, but very tough defenceman. Like Corey did with Lepine.

If DOPS had any cojones, he'd be home already. They completely bottled the "repeat repeat offender for headhunting" line of thought. 9 games suspended this year, that's 13% of his actual work that Panthers have paid him to do that he's absented himself from doing as a result of indiscipline. Try that at your job, folks, see what happens...
As you may have gathered, based on the question above, I've leaned towards the negative. He may well have it in him to be responsible but tough, but based on this season, for whatever reason, that hasn't happened.

I agree with everything you’ve put PantherB. I think Rissling is a great player and he’s very much old-school in the way he plays. To say he should never wear our jersey again is a bit ridiculous and over the top imo. There have been far worse incidents in years gone by that haven’t brought up the same reaction.
But, he has to reign it in slightly, be more controlled and educate himself on who’s who. One things for certain, if he’s back next season we could see the development of some genuine rivalries with a bit of animosity and passion. That wouldn’t be such a bad thing would it.

Compare him to Lepine, season one. was it two or three bans, for similar offences ? Yet no-one suggested he shouldn't be allowed back, in fact he learned from his mistakes, still played with an edge, but didn't pickup the cheap penalties. I'dd hope that Jaynen can follow the same path, it's useful that he's got an example to follow ! Jaynen is also an asset offensively.

I like the sort of player Rissling is, but he stepped over the line on Sunday. We got very very lucky with the DOPS decision.

It's made me laugh but sadly I'm not surprised with these modern fans who have gone ott at this incident.
Years ago this sort wouldn't even have been a talking point!

It's pointless endlessly saying "It was better back in my day", we'll end up with rickets, cholera and slums. One assumes you're not earning the same wage you were 20 years ago? The world's moved on. Unlike some.

It was close to being a Kozak incident with the first shot.

Okay d man but has become a bit of a liability, I feel sometimes he focuses too much on the physical side, for example he seemed to care more about getting shots in on Lundvald than he did the game when we last played Dundee. While he’s missed 13% of games this season you’d assume that if he’s resigned he’ll have a target on his back and could miss even more next season.

Don't remember Lepine getting banned for elbowing someone in the head because we'd just let one in (lucky to only get 2), or cross checking a guy in the back of the head into the ice (should've been much more than 2 games for that, regardless of repeat offender status). There's getting banned because you're trying to play physical and getting it a bit wrong, and getting banned because you lack self control. He's become a liability and could quite easily have completely derailed our Play Off chances before we'd started. I'd not risk bringing him back, he isn't that good, none of this lot are.

They certainly have mate. This Dops stuff and lots of other things is what finally convinced me i was watching some sort of sham/false league that wasn’t a true and fair playing field, hence i gave up going. 🤨

There is just no consistency whatsoever,it seems to depend on either who you are, which team you play for,who your team plays in their next few games etc etc. It’s the same with other decisions the league take too,all based around what makes the most money rather than what’s the best or fairest decision. The whole EIHL is just a sham in my opinion.
