Heard last week he wants a wage for next season and that Smith is unwilling to meet his demands. He went move far as he has a young family now so pretty much rules out Belfast and Cardiff is over a 3 hour drive away...

Never gonna happen.
Although Panthers do have a history of signing injury prone players!

With Shields announcing his retirement at the end of this year, does that pour petrol on any "Dowd back to Belfast" rumours circulating?

It’s probably a case of Dowd knowing Shields was going to retire which makes him more valuable,so he thought he’d ask the Steelers for more money knowing the Giants, Devils and Panthers might be sniffing around too.
That’s my guess anyway.

I don't see Dowd leaving personally but I think his decision will ultimately fall on whoever is announced as the next coach.

I don't think his cost has gone up. More likely that the Steelers can no longer afford him.

I would personally welcome Simms' Love Child. A Brit who can actually score goals.

If there is any truth in this rumour I’m sure it’s only being done to drive up his pay, which I hope works, this way the Steelers will have less to spend on better imports.

Dowd has a young family so wont venture too far from Sheffield. If Smith csbt match his demands theres only one club who could realistically fund it

If Smith csbt match his demands theres only one club who could realistically fund it If Steeler's do have a limited budget (in relative terms), I think you'd get more bang for your buck out of Imports. If they have to limit their spending then you need to get the best return on your investment and I think a high scoring import would be cheaper than his comparable Brit. That said in think there'd be huge anger in the fanbase if they let him go, especially to us. For that reason, even if they could justify it in cost/performance terms, I think they'd never let him go.

Scott Allison and Dion Darling both huge names for the steelers made the short trip down the M1 to wear our colours. It’s possible.

Yeah but those two were both knackered and past it when they came to Panthers. I could see Dowd in Belfast again but not Nottingham.

Looked a world beater at first. Then got injured, came back and looked as though he’d barely even played the game before. I’d like to see Dowd here, always rated him. Would be (pleasantly) surprised if it happened though.

That’s why Zion got the bullet.

Dowd is no spring chicken anymore. Hes been pro for a few years now. I don't see him taking a young family to Belfast tbh If he wants to stay local

I don't see him taking a young family to Belfast tbh If he wants to stay local Dowd will know what they paid O’Connor to get him back and he’ll be testing the water. Steelers must be aware he’s getting older and also made of glass, but they won’t want to lose him either. But he’s on big money already so they’re gonna struggle to justify more cash because he hasn’t really earned his big money this year. He was 70th in the scoring charts with only 34 points, that’s really pretty poor !

He was 70th in the scoring charts with only 34 points, that’s really pretty poor ! To be fair, he only played 44 games, so he's points per game wise on a par with Hurtubise, 37th overall. Now I know what you're going to say, but... The Steeler who surprised me the most this season is Owens. 56 points in the last 2 seasons in the DEL, you'd have expected a lot more than 10+16 for a full EIHL season. And the Ruperts, who couldn't buy a point in Sheffield (1 assist between them in 12 competitive games) ended with 104 points between them for Indy in the ECHL, bookending a certain Josh Shalla, who got 29+27.

Rupert turned up unfit and rather portly, was an attitude issue for them. They didn't have what it takes to go out of their comfort zone geographically.

Not sure, came with good pedigree but has just struggled. Just assume it's down to the general poor quality of our side overall. Expected more.
