Not sure we bullied anyone last year?
Looking at our forward line I wouldn’t say the following were big bullying types; Asselin, Bentivoglio, Morissette, Crowder, Martin, Ulmer, and Rutkis
The following were bigger guys; Haddad, Myers, and Pope
Granted Batch and Faryna could put it about but Batch was injured most of the season so held back and Faryna, well he loves to check
What our guys did well all season was keep the puck in the corners; for all the skill they have they also like to play that gritty game, recycle the puck, tire out the opposition. It doesn’t come without pain mind!
I think our team shows you don’t need size as such (seems our blueprint for this season isn’t changing) but players who are not just skilful but also don’t mind being banged up in the corners, on the boards, or at the net.
Can’t believe the size you have this year - thought you looked like giants at the start of last year - well some of the guys. But this season it’s insane! What’s the average height of your squad?
If there was one team that tried to bully us last season then that would be Giants. However, they seem to be moving a few of those type players on.

Don't know the average height of the squad, but the 7 D-men who will be with the Panthers all or most if the year are on average 6ft 3in and 213lb. Monsters.

It’s alright being big as long as they can skate well. Otherwise it could be half a dozen big lumbering monsters trying to catch and hit shadows.

Panthers now have 7 players at 6 foot 3 or over, with one to come, their tallest and heaviest roster (on average) ever. Take away Kelsall and Hazeldine (who will likely play little, I'd guess) the average is 6 foot 3 and 203 lbs.

Young average age so if there’s just enough leaders, experience, and they can all skate well then it’s all down to your coach. They could well wear teams down so most of your scoring comes late in 3rd periods. It’s fun making all this stuff up....,

Just for a quick comparison Steelers current squad (minus their two youngsters) average 6'1" and 192 lbs.

I think we are guilty of recruiting too many big defenders. It could backfire. I recall our best actual 'defender' in my years watching Panthers being, by some distance, Eric Werner.
A quick, small forward line could give us serious problems.

A quick, small forward line could give us serious problems. While you could be right, I think good positioning and a physical defence would nullify that pretty well

It's quite interesting how some pigeonhole players as big = slow and smaller = nippy.

It's quite interesting how some pigeonhole players as big = slow and smaller = nippy. Spot on. For example, you could always say big = long legs = long strides = fast. We've seen that before...

How many d men in the nhl are under 6 foot and how many regular get caught out of position? It's their positioning and hockry brain which makes up for lack of pace

All I'm saying is we don't appear to have the limpet like defender on the roster & for me it's a mild concern.

Even Neilson himself admitted he struggled a lot for a big part of his first season. Fans were calling for him to be gassed until he picked up after about 30 or 40 games.

I wonder if, in his 19 seasons coaching teams who've played on Olympic-sized ice pads in less physical/more skilled leagues, Chernomaz has ever had to consider these apparently huge concerns before signing players from NA?

Mmmm he might be thinking the EIHL is more physical than it really is. His team last year in the DEL averaged just less than 6 foot tall and 13.5 stone so that wasn’t a “big” team. He knows what he’s doing though. 👍

Mmmm he might be thinking the EIHL is more physical than it really is... That's not really the point I was going for but hey hum... What I'm trying to say is that, despite all the worries that NA players might get lost on big old Olympic ice, Chernomaz has been signing such players for 19 seasons now and onto teams that play in leagues of a far higher skill quality than this one. I'm sure he hasn't mistakenly signed players thinking the EIHL is the UK version of the LNAH. It could be he has signed bigger players he knows (with 19 seasons worth of experience behind the decision) can both keep up on Olympic-sized ice and provide a bit of bulk. I think people are forgetting that Chernomaz is one of the most experienced coaches to have ever worked in the UK. He likely brings with him a level of knowledge, experience and contacts that few other coaches who've worked in the UK can come close to matching. Looking at past Panthers coaches, Adey, Blaisdell, Dampier, Ellis, Woods...some big names among them with regards to Panthers history, but none of them had anywhere near the experience Chernomaz has when they took over the reins in Nottingham.
