Suspicious first thread on THF, from a ‘Panther’ fan, who signed up and posted this week. Wouldn’t be surprised if it was Pete Russell as the person was making a strong case why Russell is out only option and why he’d be great. Poster had good insight into Mk and suggests he’ll being Mele and Stoflet with him! So let the next season rumours begin!

"Pete Russell as a coach is one that potentially would benefit Panthers massively. As the GB coach he has links to the Brit core at Panthers, and is regarded as one of the Best British Coaches out there currently, okay his systems might be slightly British based, but they work. He hasn't had success with Milton Keynes this year, but he certainly hasn't failed. He has had relative success. I genuinely think the roster for Lightning this year has been somewhat sub par, but as first year owners, first year managers, and in a lot of cases first year players, the Lightning have managed to compete week in week out, missing that leadership that perhaps was expected from some the EIHL Vets, Nickerson, Boxhill, Doucette, and Phillips all to be mentioned. Personally I don't see too many alternatives for the Panthers, the roster they penned for the 17-18 year was strong, but hit poor form following exit from the CHL. Pete Russell is more than capable of providing a domestically focused team, which ultimately is what this season will require for panthers, and getting systems in place that enable team performances, not the brilliance of Perlini, Pither, or Mosey. Thats what he has done this year for Milton Keynes, produced a competitive team subject to constraints in every manor, goaltender issues, injury issues, budgetary constraints, discipline issues. I also wouldn't be surprised if he took a few of this seasons roster to Nottingham, namely, Tomy Mele, and Evan Stoflet, who have both transitioned well into the league, and perhaps would play better in the larger arena franchise. We also often forget that on the same Tier as the Elite league is a whole world of leagues with similar experience, ECHL and AHL guys doing the circuit, and as passionate as us fans are, we can't always see the whole talent pool." From a poster called "LightPanther95"Optimistic conjecture on an unconfirmed rumour, nothing in it, but the responses are pretty funny.

Dunno why these people do it. We had Martin Tuma on here a few years ago, masquerading as a fan and that other awful D man from a few seasons ago doing the same thing. It’s so transparent and hilarious when they deny its them...
This is even more obvious since he joined the THF on the 12th March, just as fans started to speculate he is our next coach and were really negative. So an account is created and in he comes to defend the position. I’m sure it’s a done deal though and we will have him coaching here soon.

I heard that current Allen Americans forward Spencer Asuchak's agent has been throwing his clients name about on our shores.

Mosey to Cardiff is one I heard just after the neilsons announcement, has some substance given the fact he turned them down last summer to play for Corey again.

Wouldn’t surprise me according to Evan when in Prague he was offered mega bucks by Cardiff, he kept his word to Corey but he’s a free agent now.

Been told our new coach is Rich Chernomaz, current coach oh the hungarian national team. 2 DEL championships in the early 2000s, but has been in the 2nd and 3rd tier in Germany the last 5 years. Not particularly enamoured with the suggestion.

Not particularly enamoured with the suggestion. Why not? Black recruiting a new to the league coach from Germany worked out really well at Braehead. Who's to say we can't do just as well as Braehead? They didn't come bottom of their conference like we did.

Looks like a good appointment to me. Wealth of experience. 14 coaching in the DEL. 4 years in DEL2 and plenty of international coaching too. Bet he isn't short of contacts. Comparing him to Tripp is ridiculous. Nearly 20 years of coaching experience when Tripp had just half a season

Defintely got a lot of experience, just concerned at the sizeable backward step the last few years. I'll happily admit I don't know why he ended up in the German 3rd tier though.

Got talking to a Braehead fan who was sat near to a Canadian guy who was over for finals and seeing family in UK. Apparently wouldn't give his name but was in mid 50's. Only guy I could think of was Sean Simpson? 2+2=6?

He'd be a sensational signing. NLA Championship, DEL Championship, World Championship silver medal (Switzerland), CHL champion and while most of his trophy wins are in the past, he's still coaching in top Euro leagues. I mean his last jobs have been Swiss head coach, KHL, NLA, DEL. You could argue it's a downwards trajectory, but he'd still be crazy to come slum it here with us.

Would be best coach in the league hands down, yes Lord has done well but the DEL/KHL/NLA is a different beast to the EIHL. Maybe the fact he was born in Essex could be a factor? He'd have top level contacts which would be useful.
