oh christ a few good results and people expect 6-0? It will be much closer and I think everyone knows that. Its a PREDICTIONS thread. Not a I WAS DREAMING AND THIS IS WHAT I DREAMT thread. Be realistic. ;D And the award for under-expectation goes to... Seriously, it wasn't far off, a few lucky bounces prevented this from being 6-1. What a game. Lot's of stuff going through my head, will post more when my headache goes!

cracking game! Rasti pulled off a new trick puck was heading towards him wth a belfast player straight after it ans rasti chipped the puck up with his stick then caught it with his glove!

I didn't think that was a very good game at all. We were very average and struggled to pass the puck a lot of the time. Thankfully the Giants were woeful. They looked as if they'd given up before a puck was even dropped, completley demoralised and lacking in ideas. We were comfortable throughout I thought and won without ever needing to get out of first gear. Disappointing really as I was expecting a little more.
I'm not complaining though - a win is a win and I think that now leaves us only a couple of points behind them (though they'll still have some games in hand).

We have recently heard how bad the referees are in the league, tonight you could not fault Mr Boniface. He had an excellent game, hardly missed a thing.

I can't believe that I'm saying this..... .... but despite my well-known dislike for Nigel, it's true - he called it straight tonight. He missed a few, of course - but that was pretty much even between the teams. He called most of what he should, and I don't think I can remember a single penalty for either side that I could really disagree with... including those on the Panthers. With my cynical head on, I have to wonder if this was a blip or not... but fair play, credit where credit is due - Nigel Boniface, one of what I regard as The Three Stooges of British ice hockey refereeing... he had a good game. Ugh, I feel dirty now.... think I need a shower! ;D

Great all round performance by the whole team and if we play like that Friday it will be payback time for the Steelers. I don't see the Steelers trying to force the issue the way the Giants did. Giants realise their strength lies in the forwards and they used two and three forecheckers for much of the game and paid the penalty as Panthers were relatively efficient with what room and time they were given. Rovnianek was impressive again and was unfortunate with two of the Giants three goals. He made the initial saves from close in but his D didn't help him out with the clearance.

My Turn.... Good performance tonight....not great but didn't need to be against a poor Giants side (..and that hasn't been said very often). Feel sorry for Awada, Kelman and Skiehar in particular as some of the others didn't appear to be giving their all. Good to see Clarke and Macca showing form again. Not so good that Neilsons passes were getting more wayward by the minute, good job Jan, Danny and Reeser were able to tidy up after him. Can't really pick fault with anything else, we did enough in the first period to sit back a little. Thought Shmyr deserved his MoM, loved the way he cleared sticks and gloves out of the way to create "the dancefloor" and then put his hand under Skiehar's head to prevent it thumping the ice.... Boniface had a good game, all the calls were good, don't think he missed much and let a bit of the rougher stuff go....while still calling the interference, holding, stick infringements, etc. IMO this is how a ZT game should be called....so a big WELL DONE to Nigel tonight. The Celebration..... After Rasta did his bit, all the players went to centre ice....stood in a circle around the logo....Rasta removed his glove and threw it into the air....as it landed on the ice....all the players dropped flat to the ice simultaneously....as though the glove were a grenade or something. Like when we played war when we were kids. Not quite PC...but I chuckled. ;D It's good to win and it's good fun. Thanks boys!!!

Who comes up with these celebrations? It'd be worth keeping Rasto just for that.

good result but hardly a great game.
you can only beat the opposing team that turns up - and lets be honest belfast were terrible - looks like they are on a panthers "bad run" of games at present.
i'm suprised shmyr got MOM tonight - didnt think he really played that well (showed that he missed 3 games!) and the fight was a non starter, but that is the exception to previous performances all season.
i thought ellis had a good game - and have been really impressed by his effort since shirting up a again.
good result and good luck in newcastle.

I am not sure about this 'We were average' stuff.
I thought our 1st and 2nd periods were awesome. We played a part in Belfasts downfall because we looked so dangerous.
I agree that in the 3rd we seemed to rest and take our foot off the gas. This gave Belfast the belief back and they got 2 goals.
Does anyone know why Awada was chipping at Clarke after the buzzer for the 2nd period end. Or was it Shmyr he was after, either way he out of his depth. Clarkie was fuming at Dutes in the 3rd as well for something, shouting "Do that again and I will take your f'ing head off". Not sure what he did, Dutes always seemed a clean, skill player. Maybe not?
I thought the whole team did a really good job in the first and second, working for each other. Corey did make some howlers, but then also did one or two really good things as well to save the day. The other 3 d men covered him at times, but then again durig other game he has covered them after some bad mistakes by the others. 'Swings and roundabouts'.
Apart from Cov, the next 4 down all seem very tight and we could end up 2nd or 5th. But in this vein of form and with Gallant to come, could be an exciting run in.

i thought they all played well but i would have had rees as MOM but hey no grumble at ryan as the choice, thoughts on the season shame we did not bring rasti in at the start of the season, team spirit etc as well as good NM
shame tess went to the dark side,
sorry to see blaz go, not sorry to see mopes go,
all the young brits playing well will be good for the future,
clark better than last season good,
supermac great signing,
Ryan needed someone like him for a long while,
ME took a lot of stick with his first year on the forums but will be an even better coach next season for us,
Sorry to see simoes go but playing better without him?
All in All and i am probably going to shoot myself in the foot with this statement but i reckon we can finish second and win the playoffs on our current form and team spirit etc.

Not so good that Neilsons passes were getting more wayward by the minute, good job Jan, Danny and Reeser were able to tidy up after him. Why do people only remember the few bad things that players do, he does good things that don't even get mentioned. But the moment he does a bad pass the knives are out again we won and how many of the goals Belfast scored were CN,s fault.

Rob Sorry Rob but I have to disagree with you (for those of you who don't already know us, we're hubby and wife and hardly ever agree on things ;D) 2nd and 3rd period were quite boring for me, wasn't anything like the first. Either we settled down a bit in the second or belfast put more effort in because we seemed to play quite evenly then. In fact, I was that bored that I had my Son teaching me sign language! And it's Gallant, not Robbins, you plonker! These fights that Shmyr has, does anyone get the impression that they are sometimes a little staged? chucked his equipment out of the way, didn't throw any proper punches, just grabbed Skiehar and laid him down on the ice. Didn't look like a fight, more like a bit of entertainment for a game which got a bit boring after the first. Thought Boniface had a pretty good game. Thought he had a couple last season as well but this season he seemed to go downhill a bit. Always makes me smile when he's stood on the ice, because I think him and Corey look alike a bit. Am happy with the result and might buy the DVD just so I can try and watch some good bits that I missed. Last season, I just used to watch the puck and missed whatever action was happening at the other end of the ice. This season, I am trying to watch the action as well but missing a lot of other good stuff where the puck is, especially some good goals.
