Simply put, I can't remember being so excited about a roster before the season started. Some may agree, some may not but that's not what the threads about. It got me wondering, what roster has had people the most excited before the start of the season?

I'm not sure we've ever had a roster like that.
So it's probably this one. Purely because we have very little idea of exactly what we're going to get.
We will probably get another one similar next season too. Because if this one works out well, all these young guns will have jumped ship over to somewhere else in Europe !

I have to agree, the potential of this team is one that gets my juices flowing. And I can't help but think the last 2 signings will only add to that.

I agree the unknown has added a lot of excitement for me. The fact that a team like this has never been assembled in this country as far as I know. It could fail or it could be a master stroke.

If these players we have signed truly have aspirations of getting back up to the AHL or even league's like the DEL we could be in for a treat this season. It's certainly a exciting one , I'm still pinning my hopes on the last defenceman being Gui, and the centre being a older head who can lead the team

The roster I was least excited about (and they began by living up to it in the opening month) was the grand slam team.
Until Lepine returned, that roster was going nowhere and getting bullied out of every game!

If we got those last 2 players as described then yes realistically we can win the league with this roster, I see no obvious weakness, the one question mark is our face off winning, I hope Phillips and our new centre have a good success ratio

We can win the league title every season regardless of who we sign.
The problem is, other teams are better.
We're only second behind Sheffield with players to sign. Other teams have plenty of signings to make yet.

I'm loving the look of this roster but I was most excited before the 02/03 season, in fact, by a country mile!
With new signings like Jim Paek, Lee Jinman, Dody Wood and Eric Charron, nicking Scotty Allison from up the road and retaining absolute entertainers Greg Hadden and Barry Nieckar I could barely contain myself. The only downsides of the summer were PC Drouin and Clayton Norris not returning.

Steelers look to be doing what we did last year - either retaining or downgrading. Devils still a way to go but seem to be retaining mostly. Good team to retain though! Edinburgh look to be the surprise package so far... I'd be very excited if I was a fan of theirs (on top of fully expecting them to get players poached by November).

Jason Clarke and Brian Thompson both racking up 100+ Pims aswell as Wood and Nieckar. Have to admit this seasons team also has me excited. The club and Corey needed a change of direction and fair play to them they have made it. We should absoloutly expect, as a club to compete every seasaon. Every year we see big CVs, expect big things only to be disapointed. This year it's great to have a level of intrigue. It could be a spectacular failure or a spectacular success. Only time will tell. I think a lot of credit is due for trying something very different and if it fails at least they tried. It's quite amazing the difference in emotion from the end of last season to now.

That year was certainly the most entertaining only problem was the balance was not quite right (too many with a way too short a fuse ) and of course sheffiled took the pee and signed 4 lines of the best imports in the country...

As for this season I'm still to be convinced we have enough "quality" in the team to make that step into first place, I don't see how Sheffield have downgraded, and imho have filled the gaps from last season and the way things are going Cardiff look even stronger to me and we had miles to catch up to just be as good as them last season...
Oh and each passing signing from other teams seem to improve the league (and hence making it harder to win it) expecially Belfast who I like the look of more and more...

For me I'd like to see Lepine and a really great centre, if I'm honest I'd like to see us sign two more forwards and a defenceman, then use Lindhagen as a spare.

The only downsides of the summer were PC Drouin and Clayton Norris not returning. Same here! The roster that season just kept getting better and better with every signing they made. You thought we've already got an amazing squad...and then we sign Dody Wood...and then Scott Allison. Entertainment-wise that season still sets the bar - despite there being only 5 teams by the end and our general performances being patchy (although in a very high quality league). Obviously there was incredible toughness in that team, but the skills of people like Jinman and Purves (I was actually at London Docklands for the Purves coast to coast) were unbelievable . Anyway, back to this season - I'm amazed people are believing all the usual Panthers PR! These youngsters we're signing are apparently all still hoping to play in the NHL and AHL are they Corey? Well the obvious way to realise that dream is to come to what's considered a beer league (for the few who have even heard of it). Yes we've had a couple getting AHL contracts after being here (Lepine and Mosey for example), but there are far more players who make the AHL after being called up from he ECHL! Fair enough, tell us they have aspirations to play in the DEL and are using us as a stepping stone, but please don't pretend we're now a natural springboard to the NHL! A couple of players aside, the roster this season just looks cheap. Yes, some people may find all the unknown quantities and youngsters exciting, which it is to an extent, but they're mainly bottom half of the Elite league level signings. Most of them are the type of resumes Fife and Coventry would be signing. And those teams just don't win the league - in fact, they don't even get close. Also, youngsters being "hungry" is a complete myth anyway. It's usually the youngsters who come to Nottingham for the nightlife and bunnies with the hockey as an afterthought. Compare that to the older players who come over with wife and families.... The roster this season, whilst Corey may still work miracles with it, is a cost-cutting exercise. The teams with better resumes win the Elite league - it's always been that way. I'll very happily eat my hat if I'm proved wrong in March - but history would suggest if it does happen it's a massive anomaly.

I for one am very excited by the prospects of the team that has been built up to this point, let's be honest, we've tried signing players with big resumes in the past and has it worked in terms of winning the league? No. So I am glad that we are trying a different route with a younger squad that will want to impress and develop their careers.
I thinks Phillips, Bussieres and Mokshantsev will all be superb forwards, defensively we look balanced and solid, then to top it all off we have Garnett at the back and I think the opposition will find him very, very hard to beat. Sounds pretty exciting to me.

It does look just a very solid, but compared to what we are used to,a much cheaper looking roster at the minute. The spin is also there. Just because Corey tells us a player is "super skilled" we don't always see it. Look at Carter,we were told he was dynamite close in round the net.....mmmm he wasn't,he was crap. We were told Sarkanis was super fast.....mmmm,he was fast but it didn't do much good. Hope it works out,but that last forward of real quality is crucial.

Well the 2 examples used dont back up your point. Carter did have great hands, but clearly wasnt happy stood in front of net in our league. And we had no play marker next to him (i pet hate of mine from last season). Just because guys dont work out doesnt mean Corey's automatically wrong. Also this years team fowsnt have the cv of some guys from previous years. But i dont think it'll be cheaper. Youth costs money. We only get those guys because they are in the downward spiral. This team may flop or it could walk the leauge we just dont know yet. But i think its a tad silly to dismiss it as cheap.
