The GMB Nottingham Panthers are pleased to announce the return of David Clarke to the line-up for 2017-18 which will be his fourteenth season at the club. He will continue in his role of player-assistant coach which started last season. As a player last year the 35-year-old had 33 points in 39 games with the Panthers. With more teams in the Elite League than ever before Nottingham beat off interest from elsewhere to retain him. He has been an integral part of the organisation for many years and in his former role as captain hoisted many trophies on behalf of the team. Last year he was hampered by injuries but he still proved himself to be one of the league’s most prolific scorers with another season around the point per game mark. Said David: “It goes without saying that I enjoy playing in Nottingham. It has become my home and the club, the management, the back-room staff and the fans are second to none. “The chance to join Corey in the coach’s room last year was another step forward in my career and I learned a lot but there’s still plenty to come from me out on the ice. “We made history abroad in Europe last season. This coming year we want to win some domestic silverware again. We’ve had a lot of success during my time in Nottingham and we aim to keep that going. Corey has spoken of the club being ‘laser focussed’ on the league title race. “We set the bar very high here and that’s always a good thing for the team and the fans.” The new season faces-off on August 12th with pre-season action followed by Champions Hockey League games and the domestic campaign is set to begin in early September. The season ticket in 2017-18 will include ALL 28 home league fixtures. The massively discounted early bird prices apply until the end of this month (May). Season ticket holders enjoy a host of benefits on top of the huge difference to match-to-match purchases for league games such as discounts on merchandise, cut-price tickets for non-league games and having their locations held for them. www.panthers.co.uk/content/gmb-panthers-complete-brit-pack-return-david-clarke

I like him, he served us well but with his injury record this signing does not sing out a desire to win.

Can you remember when Neil Black said he was putting an end to us signing injury-prone players?
And you think everyone will be here by August 7th too?

I see absolutely no reason not to sign him. If he's recovered from injury then he starts with a clean sheet. He (and the club) wouldn't take the risk of playing unless he thought he could last the season.

Standard signing that was expected. Hopefully he misses fewer games this season but still has quality left in him.

Yep good signing. At least now all the "bit parts" are signed, the next dozen or so signings will be rather more interesting !

No complaints, glad he's back playing. Would've been a bit of a hole to fill if he'd had hung them up.

No other Brit in the league does what Clarke does, it would have been madness to not bring him back even though he will inevitably miss a few games.

Good return for us goal scorer isn't afraid to be physical great role model for the younger brits. Certainly can still do a job for us.

I have no problem with having Clarke back. Experienced, knows the league and will always score goals. Was kinda hoping he would come back as a spare/ injury cover as he'll never play 50 games let alone the 70 or whatever number it'll be next season.

It's still early days, the best players will be waiting to see what the best deal is they can get, the club could even have players signed but will be holding back announcing them. Look at other teams, they are in the same situation, patience is key to getting the best players. Calm down.

Chill out man. Corey isn't just sat on his backside drinking Molson all day and night back home. He started his work on recruitment pretty much as soon as Playoffs finished. You keep complaining about the roster probably going to be garbage again, so how would panicking and making quick signings improve that? It wouldn't. The better ECHL/AHL (Standard Contract) players will obviously wait a little bit to see if they get any offers from better teams, see if they can make more money etc.. Whose to say Corey isn't talking to Lepine, or a Lepine type, but having to wait for a certain answer? And with that, whose to say Corey isn't talking to a potential plan B player should the Lepine or Lepine type say no? No team in the league besides MK and Blaze have signed any decent new imports. They're all still in the re-signing phase.

Let's just be honest there's probably about a 20% chance the FULL roster will be here in the country and ready for the first challenge game!! Spang and brown are enough I don't want any more of last year's roster . Effing hell fire !!

I'm glad Clarke is back but I really hope we're not relying on his point production as he's far too injury prone. It's nothing to do with him getting older either, he's pretty much always been a guaranteed sicknote at some point.
I'm expecting a better return than last season, below a point per game has to be disappointing for him.

When the ink on the contract is dry they 'll report the news . So based on that no other import has signed else we d have heard it would we not ? Unless the Panthers are lying .. which is very likely anyway

Visa's don't take that long, 3 weeks max, just over a week if it's a good week and we sign players who aren't on Lizon's level of stupidity. I don't want any more of last season's roster either, McGrattan is the only one I'd accept but not one I'd be buzzing about, the rest are tosh. It isn't even Corey who arranges flights and travel anyway.

Still pretty productive so makes sense to bring him back if he hasn't got a better offer, but as has been said he's almost guaranteed to be crocked for a chunk of the season these days so hope we don't rely on his goals too much.

Happy and dissapointed in equal measures with this update. Happy to have Clarke back for another year. Can still contribute and considering you need Brits he is still one of the better ones available.
Dissapointed it completes the Brit pack. Really would have been good to add 1 more with a bit of quality. Josh Batch would have been ideal. Likely he will say in Cardiff which is ro be expected, If he signs anywhere else in Elite League it'd be frustrating.

Why would I go and speak to Neil Black. Just to be told more lies !! Visas take more than 3 weeks . The process itself doesn't, according to the Home Office. 3 weeks max unless you've not provided accurate or required information. Just takes longer for the club due to having to run around having the player take photo's of this and that and find this document, that document. Procedure I know. But again, that's not Corey's department.
