I have just read that there are rumours that the Tigers from Telford could make the move to the Liverpool Echo arena. This could happen by the start of the 2016-2017 season. Apparently their mega rich owner is a huge Liverpool FC fan, so this is seen as a dream move for him. I just wondered what peoples thoughts were on the rumours.

Can't be true can it ? What would be the point. They would lose all there fanbase in Telford as Liverpool is an hour away.

Potentially a HUGE arena crowd as an owner would be a move I would make if I could not afford to run both at the same time as the profit could be much greater...

Can't be true can it ? What would be the point. They would lose all there fanbase in Telford as Liverpool is an hour away. The point would be they have an arena team, with a much larger potential market. The owner has is well known for being ambitious, and has the funds and North American connections to back him. I would suspect he would try to get something going locally first but if that fails I could see Liverpool being a possibility. Here is a BBC article on him from 20th Dec

It would be easier to just start a new team wouldn't it? I've been to Telford and it's a nice rink, fun fanbase at both EPL and ENL level and providing a good standard of hockey.
I can't see there being no hockey in Telford and the fan base will fight to keep their name.

I should have said that as part of this happening, hockey would still have to be played out of Telford at a lower level to be used as feeder to the team in Liverpool.

Massive pinch of salt time... I've lost count of the number of times we've heard rumours of this or that massive/ambitious move, team creation, whatever... and absolutely naff-all happens. A new London team in the 02 arena, a team in Liverpool (nothing to do with the Telford owner), a team in the new Leeds arena, the Sheffield Yes Maybe No Project, a new London team anywhere, a new Durham team, a Dublin team joining the EIHL in the 2012-2013 2013-14 20?? season, the Panthers joining a European league, a European NHL team in London, a KHL team in London... and those are just the few I can remember. There have been many, many more.

It's in more detail on THF, i believe Tigers would remain in Telford and the EPL but the owner create a team from scratch in Liverpool playing out of either the Echo or an olympic size rink currently being built in the city though there was no mention of seating with that. Telford would remain under his ownership and he'd use them as a feeder club, similar to NHL-AHL linkage i'm guessing. He certainly has the money for it but it's whether he has the balls to go forth with it, in the long run it would probably be a sucessful venture but short term would probably see him lose money due to there being no existing team in Liverpool so there wouldn't be that many people go to start with, in theory. It'd be good to see this happen, same with the London team, that'd add a new team for both conferences.

I guess for the good of the league yes but will drastically reduce panthers team of winning... as a fan cant say I am pleased about that, finding it hard enough with the dross we are up against...

The Ice Hockey Annual states that the Liverpool Mayor is up for this £1.5 billion build. He's into curling...lol The Liverpool Leopards were a team years gone by but with Football in the city what attendance would be acceptable if it were an Elite side?

It is certainly good that these possibilities are being mooted - attendances in The EIHL are on the up and it might be a good time to consider another arena team. However, the costs of playing out of a venue the size of The Echo arena would be considerable unless there was some form of subsidy.

I'd say that it's much more likely that the Telford owner will start a new franchise in Liverpool and leave Telford where they are.
