It's the same deal though isn't it, if the umpire gives it out and it's clipping, it'll be out? Yes it will and it should be. It's the ones where the onfield umpire gives it 'Not Out' and the fielding side refer it. Then it goes to the 3rd umpire and he won't overrule it because not all of the ball is hitting all of the stump. Doesn't make sense to me. You've either got to 100% back the DRS system/Hawkeye or just go back to old school and let the onfield umpires decide. To many decisions are being made worse once they're reviewed. I'd also go for one review per team per innings instead of two

Smith just got away with one there. 203-3 That is an absolute shocker How is that not out Tony Hill? He's ignoring my Dad's advice and decided that 2 wrongs do infact make a right Smith has been 'out' 3 if not 4 times in this innings now. Benefit of the Doubt gone mad

Umpires having a shocker again today. Is this really the best available in the world of Cricket?

Umpires having a shocker again today. Is this really the best available in the world of Cricket? Problem is that some of the best (if not the best) are either English or Australian so under the neutral umpire law are prohibited from officiating in Ashes matches. Eight of the twelve Elite umpires are either English or Australian Having said that, if Billy Bowden is no better than the guys on show in the current series then i'm amazed

303-3 at the close, their day you'd have to say.

303-3 at the close, their day you'd have to say. Yeah you would. Need a couple of quick ones in the morning or they could be on for 500+

Good old Swanny Still looking at 500+ here though Fast forward a couple of days and will the Aussies risk giving England are gettable (is that a word?) total to chase in the hope of bowling them out and keeping the series alive? Might as well lose chasing a win rather than meekly accept a draw and lose the series

Another 5 wicket haul for Swann.
Can see a declaration soon. Maybe 450. Forecast is not good for Monday...

I reckon they'll go to at least 500 then declare - up to their bowlers then I guess to try and skittle us out fairly quickly and enforce the follow on. Either that or if we get enough to avoid the follow on, they'll look to score quickly in their 2nd innings and set up a tempting run chase. Don't rule out England though - even if the Aussies get to 550; remember Adelaide in the 2006-07 series? Bit surprised that Root hasn't had a bowl yet today?

Aus declare on 527-7. Time for a bat under pressure.
About time we had a big knock from Captain Cook...

Bresnan given out caught behind when he didn't get within 6 inches of hitting it. Another howler from Erasmus. No idea why they did not review it.

How can you justify going off for bad light with floodlights on? Ridiculous.

Rain forces a draw, England retain the Ashes.
Bit of shame it was decided by the weather, was shaping up as an exciting final days play.

Yep, Might as well not bother with tests in Manchester. Always rains....
Good result though. Hopefully we might hit top form now that some of the pressure is off.

Stories in the press of players using silicon tape on their outside edges to try and confuse HotSpot, they're looking KP's way for that one I think, with reference to his 2nd innings referral and dismissal (noise but no mark on HS).

Least he isn't texting anyone Would be a bit silly to try and hide an edge, when it can as often save you.

4th test about to start in Durham, England unchanged from Old Trafford, Australia replace Starc with Jackson Bird.
England win the toss and will bat, need a draw to win the series out right.
