Resounding win, the Aussies are kinda like we used to be Cracking win and good to see us so much on top after watching us get battered for 20 years growing up. The Aussies really are awful - and it's great!! Smash em!! No mercy!! Payback When will they ask David Hussey to pack his kitbag up and help them out? He's in the country obviously and can't be any worse than the likes of Hughes, Khawaja, Cowan, Smith etc

From what Thommo said I don't think either of the Hussey's would play for Michael Clarke for all the tea in China.

The Clarke/Watson rift is well documented but seems like the Aussie divide is much wider then they'll currently admit to. What a mess. Did Thommo elaborate?

Thommo had plenty to say about Clarke. Not a fan at all by the sounds of it. He basically called him a coward for batting at 5 and says he should be higher up the order but prefers to stay at 5 for the sake of his average.
He told some stories about Clarke's off field antics. I can't remember the exact details but he said that Hussey basically retired because Clarke went to a boat party after a boxing day test and to stop himself getting into trouble declared that it was a compulsory team function. Hussey said something along the lines of "do one, im going home to see my family" and it all kicked off from that.
Was an interesting evening.

Interesting about his batting average as one of the guys on the radio coverage (can't remember who) made the same point yesterday. His career test average batting at 4 is 21.52 and batting at 5 it's 63.42, he's only batted at 3 twice though. What fun it is to see them in such a mess both on and off the field, they literally are imploding and I'm loving it

Yeah it's great to see. I'm going up to Old Trafford for day 4 so hoping that we win the Ashes on that day.

3rd Test about to get underway, Australia win the toss and are going to bat.
England unchanged from Lords, Australia bring in Warner and Lyon for Hughes and Agar, Starc returns for injured Pattinson.

Given the series so far I reckon you're in with a good shout of getting that.

Good start by them, 70-0 from 16 overs, Rogers already got his 50.

Bresnan strikes! Lovely piece of swing bowling and Watson is caught at 1st slip.

Exactly - a proper Horlicks of a decision but we could mention the Trott decision at Trent Bridge or the Agar one. Technology is here to stay even if it has not been utilised properly in this series. The irony of the Aussies continually referring to us as Whingeing Poms is hilarious

Technology is here to stay even if it has not been utilised properly in this series. They (the ICC) need to sort it out though, it's gotten a little silly in this series. With Khawaja, there was no hotspot from what I've read, so what exactly is the evidence that would've overturned the on field decision? As you say Ted, both sides have had duff decisions from it, but it's meant to remove them not add them

As you say Ted, both sides have had duff decisions from it, but it's meant to remove them not add them I think the technology looks ok - they could maybe improve it by finding a quicker way of using 'Snicko' so that sound can support vision and make the decision process more foolproof. The problem in this series has been the umpires. As you say Yotes both teams have suffered and benefitted but as my old Dad used to say "two wrongs don't make a right". The main job of the 3rd umpire on the DRS is to only overturn the decision of the onfield umpire if he (3rd umpire) is certain that a mistake has been made. They've gone from one extreme to another though. We had Erasmus giving Trott out LBW in the 1st test after the onfield umpire - Aleem Dar - rightly gave Trott not out as he saw/heard the inside edge. Today we've had the 3rd umpire refusing to overturn an incorrect decision when Khawaja was given out caught by the onfield umpire. This despite reviewing the evidence which clearly showed he hadn't hit it. There were also 2-3 decisions by Tony Hill at Lords that weren't great and in fairness to the Aussies they all seemed to go our way. Technology = fine. Third Umpires = Poor

Technology = fine. Third Umpires = Poor Yeah I agree, probably need some training. I wonder how it affects the on field umpire's decisions though, knowing he has that there, does it make them more inclined to give it or less, or no affect? Anyway, Swanny gets Chris Rogers lbw for 84. No review either

Umpires of old used to always say the benefit of the doubt went to the batsmen but not sure that's true anymore since the introduction of DRS? I'm still not 100% convinced by the decisions being made though. Somebody just posted this on the BBC online coverage which is a very good point:- If Hawk-Eye is 99.9% accurate, why does 51% of ball have to hit the stumps for it to be out? In tennis, 1mm of ball counts.

I guess with Hawk-Eye in tennis, it tracks where the ball has landed, in cricket it's extrapolating where the ball would have gone (same as the umpire has to do).
I find it's use in cricket more acceptable than tennis, I always think those millimeter decisions make it look a bit ridiculous tbh.

Fair point Yotes but i still think that more decisions should help the bowler. If the outside of the ball clips the outside of off or leg stump then it's simple - it's out. If the outside of the ball is taking the bails off then it's out. Still to many decisions favouring the batsmen IMHO

It's the same deal though isn't it, if the umpire gives it out and it's clipping, it'll be out? I think that's fair enough, have enough trouble getting to the 5th day of a Test these days without sending more batsmen packing
