Is this the same Jamie Rivers who retired 2 years ago and is now coaching?

From a Clanfan,........ Kevin Bergin's been one of the names mentioned as being our new player/coach.
Panther fans, who'll know him best - what's your opinion of him?

I'm not sure that any Panthers fans hated Kevin Bergin. Some may have been frustrated by his limited playing ability but I would have thought that all fans could see that he gave his all and did a decent job.
As a player I'm sure he could still do a decent job in the EIHL and would provide the Clan with a little bit of toughness. No idea how he would do as a coach to be honest.
A recent interview on this forum stats that he is looking to stay in France as his preferred option.

Robert Dowd has reportedly had offers from north america (presume ECHL/AHL) courtesy of Giants forum If this is true then he would be a fool to come back to the elite league. He has the potential and he really needs to give the echl/ahl a shot. Having 'x' amount of games in the ahl on your cv will create so many more opportunities. Just like Davey Phillipss

Just like Davey Phillipss Nothing like Phillips, Dowd has so much more potential and north America maybe the place that can unlock that potential. There is little point in being in professional sport if you have no desire to better yourself and play at the highest possible level. You say that it hasn't worked for Phillips and maybe it didn't, but playing over 60 games in the AHL is not to be sniffed at for a British player and im sure he has no regrets in trying. At the very least he came back to big wage from Coventry because of his AHL experience.

Intent appears to be to reshape the team, Finnerty can recruit with numerous contacts both on and off the ice as well as respect among his peers and agents. I believe this will be a positive move for him and the team.

Finnerty retweeting a lot comments tonight from people talking about him moving to Braehead... May just be a smoke screen but fits with the rumours

Finnerty would certainly tighten up their leaky defence and make them a more solid team, a real title contender under the conference system. However, it would still seem an unusual choice for a Neil Black team as Finnertys` CV doesn`t suggest that entertainment will be at the top of his agenda.

i think he will be named in a few days as coach, which is a great appointment, will bring grit , determination and isnt afraid to sign toughness , something that seems to be lacking in scotland.

Would be a good signing for Braehead IMO but also IMO he will need an experienced coach alongside him - like we have with Strachan.

I think Black would love Finnerty to go to Braehead. Sheffield haven't done awfully under him in perspective... And with his obvious ties to Sheffield and personal Neilson/ Nottm rivalry it would only stoke up Panthers Clan tensions!... Obviously then lead to more competitive matches and higher crowd numbers.

I thought they were looking for a player coach ? I suppose Finnerty could come out of retirement but maybe thats not a good idea after a year out. Although he could be a "cheaper" coach after not winning anything.

The Finner-Braehead move could be a postive for both - Finner wants to build his rep (I do feel for the guy as he as has done well at Steelers but came in at a time when we are in a brilliant patch of winning trophies) and Braehead need to start from scratch after a miserable season. I mean its their 4th year next year and I believe theyre looking for their 6th coach (Calder, Richardson, Bannister, Krestanovich and Gardner) so the move could be brilliant for both parties. And I'm sure if he gets hired, it bigs up the Clan-Panthers rivalry and the Steelers-Clan rivalry can only benefit from it.
Finner is clearly interested and from a business point of view it makes sense so lets see what happens!

Not much! Obviously only rumours but IF Matsos ends up at Giants and Finnerty at Clan it will be run and gun hockey all round next season. What a treat for us all. Think I might bring my knitting to the games to keep me awake.
