I've heard Ling is signing just for the Continental Cup as he wants to spend more time with his kids back home. NB did say he wanted a few extra bodies in for the Cup didn't he? Or was that just a rumour as well?

If Levers does come to Phantoms what can we in peterborough expect? Is he a forward or a blueliner nowadays?

Are people really surprised Levers has left? He barely played all last season!
Overall though, for his attitude above all, he was my favourite Brit for many years. If he's gone to Peterborough, best of luck to him

He is still driving his Panthers car just saw him but still probably true. Like Toneys said he hardly played last season so its hardly suprising. He did a decent job for us when called upon. Last season was probably the most difficult as he hardly played but when he did he never did anything wrong in my eyes. Good luck to him

Must be close to being most decorated Brit in terms of team awards? Other suggestions?
If the brown stuff hits the fan in terms of injuries he's oinly a phone call away tho.

So......Who replaces Marc Levers? ?? Hasn't this been done to death? Boxill and/or Ward. It's pretty simple. I don't see what all the angst is for when he barely played 3 shifts a game for most of last year.

not the point Bobness, the point here as far as i see it is we have lost 2 very experienced brits in Myers and now Levers and havent replaced either with a suitable quality so overall the team is less than it was last season and yet all our competitors have made improvements (in some cases massive improvements) especially in the area of their british contingents.. Imho to say we are going to repeat this season next is very ....shall we say ambitious and naive especially with the players signed up so far...

First of all, let me say I am in no way criticising either Myers or Levers.
But there is another way of looking at it. Indeed, we have lost Myers. A player whose point production has fallen off a cliff in the last 2 years. Last 3 seasons were 66, 56 and 41 points. He's on course for 20-25 points next year, looking at that. And Levers, who's barely played a shift all season. I'd like to think Ward and Boxill can do that, and inject a bit of youth into our Brits too. Let's face it, none of the rest are getting any younger are they? I'm not saying we'll repeat, and I'm not guarenteeing all will be perefct, but we have to move on....

And it's a bit harsh to judge Boxill's quality when you've never seen him play (I assume, happy to be corrected)? And given that we still have 4 imports to sign, let alone start the actual season, it's a bit early to be writing off "the players signed up so far" as "less than it was last season" ?
Opinion is all OK, but it carries more weight if there's a shred of realism to it.

OK so heres the realism, we have lost arguably one of the top 6 brits in the country regardless of points output as agreed by fans across the country, add to that a player that is probably the best 10th forward in the league and capable of holding down a place on most EIHL rosters in his own right and it seems most fans are here are sorry to see go.. Now the imports alot are of unknown quantity admittedly but we have lost (at present) our two top scorers from last year and the top scorer from the year before (and last years captain) none of which as far as i can tell have been replaced with a sufficient replacement to not think we will miss them on the team.
You claim 4 imports left to sign but on the fact of that IF we are going with a 3 import defence which CN seems to favour we have 2 left to sign and if they arent Werner and Beckett whoever is signed will have a very hard act to follow also. This leaves 2 import forwards and we have 3 players imho to replace in Ling/Graham/Fox therefore in my mind we are going to be light on goals unless Seguin decides he doesnt want to be a star anymore... Which overall means we have a weaker team rather than a stronger one when all our competitors have strengthened pretty substantially in some cases... How is this not being realistic?
I am not writing off the team but it is plainly obvious at present we have a weaker team and we are meant to defend the triple with this, cant see how this so called rumour of Black splashing the cash has any substance imho... I personally think next season will be a bit of a struggle unless some very expensive key signings are made between now and the start of next season...

it is plainly obvious at present we have a weaker team Well I guess that's where we differ. Not to me it isn't. How can it be plainly obvious we have a weaker team than last year when we still have 4 key signings to make? That's like saying an F1 car won't be as good as last year when it's only half built and has never been out on track. You compare apples with apples, not bananas.

i see your point but we have 4 KEY signings left, as i pointed out which you failed to acknowledge, we have at the moment lost 3 key forwards and 2 key defencemen (and most of those cleaned up with league and club awards, in Ling, Werner and Graham and the other is last seasons highest points scorer too).
Even if we re-sign all four players (which seems imho more and more unlikely) in Ling, Graham, Werner and Beckett the team is weaker as we havent replaced the brits with equal or greater quality and we havent replaced Fox with similar either... This is even IF we re-sign those players (and i am thinking especially in Ling and Werner) if we dont it is an even greater uphill task so the point about F1 is in my opinion more like replacing an F1 with a escort turbo and expecting it to compete rather than without any wheels..

Tell you what, shall we just wait and see who the 4 key signings are and see how the team play before we write them off?

Key difference between boxhill/ward and Myers and Levers is in the apparence column. 2 vastly experienced and decorated players vs 2 totally unproven replacements, thats why i'd like one more decent brit in.
One injury and the import limit will kill the season.

Here's me thinking Norton was Myers Brit replacement and we were going with 3 import D.
Silly me.

IF Norton is the replacement for Myers then it is a cheap swap and imho a much inferior unproven one at present, and the same goes for Boxill and Levers... so mucho wads saved there but at present i cant see where this saving has been invested... and all this without the so called wads of cash Black is allegedly throwing at the club next season to compete in Europe...(something else i for one cant see at the moment either)...
Am not sure what you are getting at Biglad, are you happy with Norton replacing Myers only i cant tell?
As for 3 import D men again i am not sure in our league this is a great idea but hey ho worked once maybe he can work it again, (odds are against it though)...

Am neither happy nor unhappy tbh.
The only Brits capable of coming close to filling Myers shoes that were available (Peacock and Farmer) want to play abroad. I assume the Panthers org will monitor their situations closely.
It's been clear that Myers has been itching to return home so not really fussed balanced out by me thinking Norton has the makings of a top Brit D-man. Time will tell.
Just don't see the point in complaining about the standard of our team when it's not finished yet. Plus I'm very happy with who we've signed so far.
